Effect of the boundary shape of weld specimen on the stress distribution (용접시편의 테두리 모양이 응력 분포에 미치는 영향)

  • In finite element analysis of mechanical behavior of weld, typical process is first to obtain a finite element model containing residual stress by conducting welding analysis and then to examine the computational specimen for various external loading. The numerical specimen with residual stress has irregular boundary lines since one usually begins the welding analysis from a body having regular straight boundary lines and large thermal contraction takes place during cooling of weld metal. We notice that these numerical weld specimens are different from the real weld specimens as the real specimens are usually cut from a bigger weld part and consequently have straight boundaries neglecting elastic relaxation associated with the cutting. In this paper, an iterative finite element method is described to obtain a weld specimen which is bounded by straight lines. The stress distributions of two types of weld specimen, one with regular and the other with irregular boundaries, are compared to check the effect of the boundary shape. Results show that the stress distribution can be different when large plastic deformation is induced by the application of external loading. In case of elastic small deformation, the difference turns out almost negligible.

Leaf Blight of Sweet Persimmon Tree in the Field and Fruit Rot in the Storage Caused by Pestalotia diospyri (Pestalotia diospyri에 의한 생육중의 단감 잎마름병과 저장중 과일 부패병)

  • Leaf blight and fruit rot of sweet persimmon (cv. Fuyu) caused by Pestalotia diospyri were observed during the growing season and postharvest such as storage and transport, respectively. Typical symptoms on leaves developed with small brown spots and were later reddish brown colors. In the storage fruit, the white mycelial mats formed between fruit and calyx. The pathogenic fungus was isolated from infected fruits and cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA). Colony color of the fungus was white at first on PDA. Conidia were ovoid or fusiform, 5 cells, middle 3 cells were olive, upper and lower 2 cells were colorless, and their size were $16{\sim}22\;{\times}\;6{\sim}8\;{\mu}m$. They had were $2{\sim}3$ appendage at basal cell and size $9{\sim}18\;{\mu}m$. Based on the cultural and mycological characteristics and pathogenicity test on host plants and fruits, the fungus was identified as Pestalotia diospyri Syd.&P. Syd. This is the first report on the leaf blight and fruit rot of sweet persimmon caused by Pestalotia diospyri in Korea.

A Histological Study on the Heart in the False dace (Pseudorasbora parva) (참붕어(Pseudorasbora parva) 심장의 조직학적 연구)

  • The histological structure of the heart in Pseudorasbora parva was investigated by light microscope. The heart consisted of four consecutive chambers, the sinus venosus, atrium, ventricle and bulbus arteriosus. The wall of the sinus venosus was divided into endocardium, myocardium and epicardium, and the walls of the atrium and ventricle were divided into endocardium, subendocardium, myocardium, subepicardium and epicardium, and the wall of the bulbus arteriosus was divided into endocardium, subendocardium (ridge tissue), middle layer, subepicardium and epicardium. The valves were observed in the sinoatrial, artrioventricular and bulboventricular junctions. The sinus venosus wall was mostly made up of collagen. The rings of tissue were observed at the sinoatrial junction. The atrium was composed of a spongy trabeculate myocardium surrounded by an external rim of thin myocardium, and collagens were distributed in the subepicardium and trabeculae. The ventricle was a spongy myocardium with vessels in subepicardium. In the subepicardium and trabeculae of the ventricle, collagens were distributed. In the bulbus arteriosus, the diameter and length of the ridges were differed. The endocardial cells were convex and the non-clustered subendocardial cells showed irregular shapes. The cells of the middle layer were arranged into incomplete layers that showed different orientations. The subepicardium was formed by cells of different morphology. Collagens and elastins were demonstrated in the subendocardium, middle layer and subepicardium of the bulbus arteriosus. The epicardium was a single layer composed of flattened cells.

Screen Printing Designs using the Lotus as a Source of Inspiration and Selected Design Criteria by E. Paul Torrance (E.Paul Torrance 의 디자인 기준에 의하여 선택된 연화문(蓮花紋)을 응용한 스크린 프린팅 디자인 연구)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 「Guiding Crieative Talent」의 저자이자 교수인 E.Pual Torrance에 의하여 제시된 디자인 기준(design criteria) 중에 3가지 디자인 기준을 선택하여, 스크린 프린팅기법에 의거, 일련의 디자인을 제작하는 것이다. 이 디자인 기준은 1958년, Torrance에 의하여 수행된 \"The Minnesota Tests of Creative Thinking\" 중 일부이다. 그는 \"창의적인 발상전개에 있어서 보다 더 주의를 요하는 것은 마지막 생산물(the products)이 아니라 그것의 과정(the process)인 것이다.\"라고 강조해 왔으며, 창의적 사고에 관한 개념을 제시해 왔다. 본 연구의 디자인은 그 창작의 착상의 모티브(motif)로써 연화문(蓮花紋)을 선택하여 다양한 디자인의 스크린 프린팅을 창작하였다. 12개의 디자인이 제작되었데, 그것은 Torrance에 의하여 제안된 약 20개의 기준(criteria) 가운데 저자가 디자인 착상에 있어서 최소한의 기본요소라 생각되어, 임의로 선택한 3가지 기준에 의하여 만들어졌다. :3가지 기준이란 1) 모티브(motif)의 수적증가(multiplication) 2) 모티브(motif)의 위치변화 3) 모티브(motif)의 모양변화이다. 전체적인 디자인과 테두리 디자인(border design)이 선택적으로 디자인 과정에 포함되었으며, 최종적으로 12개의 디자인이 선택, 1가지의 색채를 이용하여 스크린 프린팅에 의하여 제작되었다. 디자인 제작과정으로, Torrance의 각각의 디자인 기준에 의한 여러 장의 스케치를 그린 후, 그중 12개의 스케치를 임의로 선택하여 옷감위에 프린팅하였다. 디자인 제작 결과, 저자가 선택한 3개의 디자인 기준만으로도 다양한 수의 서로 다른 디자인 창작이 가능하였으며 본 연구에서는 1개의 디자인 기준을 선택 응용하였으나 보다 많은 디자인 기준을 선택하여 동시에 비교 연구하는 것도 필요하다고 본다. 그리고 1개 이상의 디자인 모티브(motif)를 함께 디자인 착상에 이용하는 것도 가능하다고 본다.

Two New Records of Siphonophora(Hydrozoa) and Semaeostomeae(Scyphozoa) in Korea (관해파리목(히드라충강)과 기구해파리목(해파리강)의 한국 미기록 2종)

  • Some siphonophores and scyphomedusae were collected from the coasts of Hoopo(Sea of Japan) and Geojedo Island, Changson(Korea Strait) in Korea respectively. They identified into Porpita umbella O. F. Muller, 1776 of the order Siphonophora in the Hydrozoa and Dactylometra quinquecirrha L. Agassiz, 1862 of the Semaeostomeae in the Scyphozoa. P. umbella looks like a bule button. It's chitinous float is light brown and the other body protions are turquoise blue. D. quinquecirrha has four long curtain-like oral lobes which are highly flexible and ornamented with numerous nematocyst warts, and 32 radiating reddish brown stripes upon exumbrella. The Siphonophora is reported for the first time and three scyphomedusae are reported in Korea so far.

Primary Colonic Epithelioid Angiosarcoma with Hepatic Metastasis: A Case Report (간전이를 동반한 대장 상피모양혈관육종: 증례 보고)

  • Colonic angiosarcoma is an extremely rare and aggressive malignant tumor with poor prognosis. We report a case of colonic epithelioid angiosarcoma with colonic obstruction and rapidly progressive hepatic metastasis in a 44-year-old female. Abdominal CT revealed a heterogeneously enhancing irregular mass in the ascending colon, causing proximal bowel distension. The patient underwent surgery, and histopathological examination revealed a poorly differentiated carcinoma. A follow-up liver dynamic MRI after 4 months revealed newly developed diffusely scattered numerous small nodules in both hepatic lobes with peripheral and nodular marked arterial hyperenhancement, raising the suspicion of hepatic angiosarcoma. A pathologic second opinion was obtained, and additional immunohistochemistry revealed colonic epithelioid angiosarcoma. The patient showed progressive hepatic metastasis on follow-up abdominal CT after 6 months and died 8 months after initial diagnosis. We describe an educational case of colonic angiosarcoma, a rare malignant tumor, with rapidly progressive hepatic metastasis that showed radiologic findings suggestive of angiosarcoma and enabled a re-diagnosis for proper treatment and prognosis prediction.

Anthracnose Caused by Colletotrichum acutatum in Robinia pseudoacacia (Colletotrichum acutatum에 의한 아까시나무 탄저병)

  • During the year 2014, black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) had been observed with dark brown spots on the leaves at Andong, Cheongsong, Mungyeong in Korea. Symptoms initially appeared as small, black lesions on the leaves, and sometimes, the leaves become yellow and ultimately leads to fall off the leaves. The pathogenic fungus grown in potato dextrose agar was white or sometime gray with mycelia in tufts and from which numerous conidia were produced. The conidia were straight and fusiform in shape and measured $8.3-17.2{\times}2.5-4.1{\mu}m$. Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rRNA sequence analysis for sequence similarity of the ITS region revealed 100% identity with nucleotide sequences for Colletotrichum acutatum. The morphological characteristics, pathogenicity and molecular data have been confirmed that the symptomatic pathogen was C. acutatum. This is the first report of anthracnose caused by C. acutatum on black locust in Korea.

The Aphid-attacking Fungus Pandora neoaphidis; the First Observation and its Host Range in Korea (국내 미기록 진딧물병원성 곰팡이, Pandora neoaphidis에 관한 보고)

  • The aphid-attacking fungus Pandora neoaphidis was collected during May and June, 1998 at various localities: two localities at Kyunggi, three at Kangwon, one at Kyungbuk and one at Chungnam Provinces. Occurrence of this fungus has never been recorded in Korea. The potential host aphids are Acyrthosiphon kondoi, Myzus persicae, Lipaphis erysimi, Sitobion avenae, Aphis rumicis, Dactynotus species and unknown species. Microscopic characters of the fungus are described and illustrated. Pandora neoaphidis studied in this study has an extremely broad range in conidial size and shape even within a single specimen. Such variable size and shape are typical characters of the fungus. During microscopic examination of specimens, the resting-spore phase was not observed.

Pinhole Bone Scintigraphic Manifestation of Fibrous Dysplasia (섬유성 이형성증의 바늘구멍 골스캔 소견)

  • To evaluate the pinhole scintigraphic findings and its significance, authors retrospectively compared the pinhole bone scintigrams and corresponding radiograms of 16 lesions in 14 patients with fibrous dysplasia. They were diagnosed pathologically in 10 lesions and radiologically in 6 lesions. The mean age of patients was 41.1 years. The mean interval between two studies was 1.1 days. Locations were ribs 7, pelvic bone 4, clavicle 1, long bones 4(femur 2, tibia 1, humerus 1). The radiographic findings were as follows : the central portions were radiolucent(n=9), ground-glass opacities(n=5) or sclerotic(n=2) and the peripheral appearance were sclerotic rim(n=5), septation(n=7), cortical perforation (n=10) and invisible cortical thinning(n=9). Pinhole scintigraphic findings were as follows; Central portions showed normal 1+ uptake in 6 cases(radiolucent 5, ground-glass opacity 1), slightly increased 2+ upta- ke in 7 cases(radiolucent 4, ground-glass opacity 3), and marked 3+ uptake in 3 cases(ground-glass opacity 1, sclerotic 2). The 15 of 16 lesions showed more intense uptake in the peripheral portion: slightly increased 2+ uptake corresponding to the sclerotic rim(5/5) and unvisible cortical thinning(1/9), and irregular foci of marked 3 + uptake corresponding to septation(7/7), cortical perforation(10/10) and invisible cortical thinning (8/9). One of 16 lesions showed homogeneous 2+ uptake. In conclusion, pinhole scintigram provides information on regional activity of the fibrous dysplasia, which would be helpful in diagnosis, prediction of prognosis and determination of treatment plan.

A Study of Metalworking Techniques Seen in the Gold Buckle from Seogam-ri Tomb No. 9 (석암리 9호분 출토 금제띠고리의 제작 방법 고찰)

  • The gold buckle excavated from Seogam-ri Tomb No. 9(National Treasure No. 189), one of the oldest gold artifacts discovered within the Korean Peninsula, was created using granulation techniques. The buckle is made with 22.8K gold sheets and features a decorative design with seven dragons in repousse metalwork. The outlines of the dragons and the edge of the buckle are finished with 23.8K gold wires and granules. Some curved sections of the buckle are also covered with an extra sheet of 23.8K gold, possibly added to repair defects discovered during production or thereafter. Gold wire used to render the dragon's nostrils is slightly lower in purity(23.3K) and was probably preferred in this case due to its increased hardness. As a result, the metal is better able to retain the complex shape of the dragons' nostrils, created by rolling gold wire into spirals. The buckle's gold granules are found in small, medium and large sizes and are presumed to have been bonded using copper. The foreheads and the bodies of the seven dragons are inset with turquoise and the eyes are decorated with red cinnabar/vermillion(HgS).
