A study on the estimation of container terminal capacity and its implication to port development planning of Korea (국내 컨테이너 부두시설 확보제도 개선방향 연구)

  • This paper investigate the problems of standard container port handling capacity in establishing national port development plan in Korea. Considering container port developing, it's not easy to adopt container port service quality parameters such as lay time constraint of very large container ships by using the standard guideline of container port handling capacity. A simple methodology that connects vessel waiting to service time(w/s) and berth occupancy to costs has been used to evaluate the performance of a container terminal. But the total handling capacity have to be calculated by the performance of the handling system and number of equipments and layout of terminal by using computer simulation that represents of reality events needs to be performed by probabilistic techniques. A simulation model of estimation of container terminal capacity is introduced in order to establish a hub terminal for very large container ships that focus the port's quality of service and also suggest as tool for policy maker to justify a required port investment.

  • The number of industry wireless networks based on IEEE 802.11 WLAN technology deployed in large outdoor work sites, such as freight container terminal, is increasing these days. Wider service coverage, frequent movements of stations and high requirement on service reliability are main characteristics of these networks compared to the conventional IEEE 802.11 networks used in home, office and school. While the importance of these networks Bets higher, we can hardly find previous studies including concrete analysis on these networks based on actual experiments. We carried out several field experiments at a freight container terminal to analyze its IEEE 802.11 network and found out some problematic situations, such as over 50% retransmission rates and frequent disruption of communication link while a station is moving. We explain why these problematic situations happen and suggest some solutions, such as application of mesh technology, smart handoff based on location and movement pattern and adjustment of signal strength and channel allocation. Methods and tools used in the experiments are also detailed in the paper which may be helpful for similar future studies.

A Study on the Optimal Service Level of Exclusive Container Terminals (컨테이너 전용부두의 최적 서비스 수준에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzes the optimal service levels of exclusive container terminals in terms of the optimal berth occupancy rate and the ships' waiting ratios, based on the number of berths. We develop a simulation model using berth throughput data from pier P, Busan New Port, a representative port in Korea, and apply the simulation results to different numbers of berths. In addition to the above results, we analyze the financial data and costs of delayed ships and delayed cargoes for the past three years from the viewpoints of the terminal operation company (TOC), shipping companies, and shippers to identify the optimal service level for berth occupancy rates that generate the highest net profit. The results show that the optimal levels in the container terminal are a 63.4% berth occupancy rate and 10.6% ship waiting ratio in berth 4,66.0% and 9.6% in berth 5, and 69.0% and 8.5% in berth 6. However, the results of the 2013 study by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries showed significantly different optimal service levels: a 57.1% berth occupancy rate and 7.4% ship waiting ratio in berth 4; 63.4% and 6.6% in berth 5; and 66.6% and 5.6% in berth 6. This suggests that optimal service level could change depending on when the analysis is performed. In other words, factors affecting the optimal service levels include exchange rates, revenue, cost per TEU, inventory cost per TEU, and the oil price. Thus, optimal service levels can never be fixed. Therefore, the optimal service levels for container terminals need to be able to change relatively quickly, depending on factors such as fluctuations in the economy, the oil price, and exchange rates.

  • The Satellite Mobile Communication System holds several advantages, such as wide coverage that guarantees the communication in a huge area. It is suitable in the ocean and forest and especially in emergency situation. However, the licensed frequency is not always occupied within all coverage and all the time. The actual utilization rate is relatively low compared to other wireless communications such as cellular systems. There are a large amount of white spaces in its coverage. Therefore, it is necessary to consider introducing additional services such as data communication, in order to increase the spectrum utilization as well as the revenue of the Satellite service provider. In this paper, we first analyze the possibility to implement new services in the licensed band of satellite mobile phone by its provider. Then we address the most significant issue for the implementation of current service, which is how to accurately detect the satellite mobile terminals. Finally, we suggest two new possible solutions namely, eigenvalue detection based methods to find out the existence of transmitted signal from the satellite mobile terminals.

IPMP(Intellectual Property Management and Protection) Service Interfaces based on MPEG Multimedia (MPEG 멀티미디어 미들웨어에 기반한 보호관리 서비스 인터페이스)

  • In order to increase the promotion of multimedia processing techniques in MPEG standard, MPEG Multimedia Middleware (M3W) which supports middleware interface for multimedia processing is set up. In this paper, multimedia protection and management service interfaces based on MPEG Multimedia Middleware (M3W) are introduced. The service interfaces are based on component models of M3W and support normative IPMP messages. The proposed interfaces are composed of Tool interfaces and Trust management interfaces: Tool interfaces provide the functionality supporting terminal and tool based on the governed decoder model and Trust management interfaces provide the supporting functionality such as license managing and authentication required in DRM devices. As an application of the proposed interfaces, a JAVA based player simulator is shown. The proposed interfaces can be easily implemented under various device and application environments as an ISO/IEC 23004-2 standard middleware platform.

  • Intelligent Transport System(ITS) has been studied in various systems, such as road environment information offering, vehicle short-range wireless/wire communication, vehicle collision preventing and pedestrian safety offering systems. Related to this, the USN technology based on the sensing accuracy for motorists and pedestrians safety, the information reliability, the maintenance and convenience for Sensor Network is highlighted. This study uses various sensors to construct USN to the road, and connect it to the developed RSU so it collects the real-time road environment information and offers it to OBU and Traffic Control Surveillance Center with Road Weather Information System. RSU collects roadside information for driver's safety and analyzes it to offer IP and beacon service according to the service priority to OBU & upper layer terminal. In the upper layer terminal it is developed the IP based Settop Box application program to offer the urban traffic information & road environment, and environment sensor error, etc. Finally, RWIS develops the real-time collection of roadside information to complement the driver's safety to the intelligent traffic system, and presents various service modes with technology convergence.

  • Smart Airport which applies the new ICT technologies to the airport is a future airport to provide convenient and safe services for passengers who are airport users, and promote the efficient management of the airport system in point of airport operator's view. The ranges of smart airport include the overall area of the airport like land side, terminal, and air side. In this paper, we propose a technical solution for airport process of terminal providing passenger convenience in various ranges for smart airport realization. Self-service such as web or mobile check-in, self check-in/tagging/back drop/boarding etc. should be strengthened to smartize the airport process and technologies such as automatic immigration, smart security search and automatic AI-based baggage search should be applied. In this paper, we explain the concept of smart airport and smart process, and then propose technical considerations.

Analysis on Enhancement Plan of Competitiveness of Global Port Container Terminal (글로벌 항만컨테이너터미널 경쟁력 제고 방안)

  • Recently, GTO's rate of return to investment is decreasing. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to analyze empirically on enhancement of competitiveness of global port container terminal. This study deals with the terms of three competitiveness enhancement factors which are a GTO's subjective factors, a management environment factors, and a government policy factors. According to analysis results of the three competitiveness enhancement factors, a GTO's subjective factors(4.21 score) are scored at the most ones of competitiveness enhancement factors of GTO, to be compared with a management environment factors(3.94 score). with a government policy factors(3.90 score). Therefore, first of all, it is important to enhance competitiveness of GTO through as follows, a GTO's subjective factors : (1) to procure local and tranship cargo volume, (2) to promote port logistics service, (3) to retain resonable port rate by promoting terminal productivity, (4) to procure container ship firms and alliance. And, the next, we have to enhance GTO's competitiveness through considering a management environment factors, that is, fluctuation of container cargo volume, port awareness, whether function of hub port, etc., and a government policy factors, that is, smart policy of port development, smart policy of port rate, incentive policy for procuring tranship cargo, etc.

  • 인터넷이 급속도로 발전해 감에 따라 그 활용 분야가 확장되고 보편화되어 가고 있다. 그 중 최근 대두되고 있는 분야가 바로 통신 서비스 분야이다. 이를 위해 등장한 것이 VoIP인데 IP 위로 음성 데이터를 전송하는 것을 목적으로 한다. VoIP를 지원하기 위한 프로토콜로는 크게 ITU-T에서 제안한 H.323과 IETF에서 제안한 SIP를 들 수 있다. 인터넷을 이용한 통신 서비스를 위해서는 음성 데이터를 패킷 망에서 전송하는 기능 외에 터미널의 이동성을 지원하고, QoS를 보장할 수 있어야 한다. 이러한 측면에서 볼 때, 상기한 두 프로토콜은 음성 데이터를 패킷 망에서 전송하기 위한 다양한 기능과 서비스를 제공하고 있는 반면 호스트의 이동성 및 QoS 보장을 위한 방안에 있어서는 미비한 것이 현재 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점의 해결을 위해, Mobile IP 위에서 동작하도록 확장된 자원 예약 프로토콜을 기반으로 하여 VoIP를 구현함으로써 호스트의 이동성과 QoS를 보장하도록 하는 방안에 대해 제안하고자 한다.

  • 컴퓨터 네트워크는 컴퓨터와 컴퓨터를 이어주는 단순 기능에서 벗어나 "네트워크가 곧 컴퓨터이다"라는 명제가 등장할 만큼 정보 기술 발전의 핵심으로 부각되고 있다. 따라서, 새로운 정보 통신망이나 컴퓨터의 연구 개발은 네트워크 기능의 고속화, 고성능화, 지능화에 중점을 두고 있다. 과거의 컴퓨터 통신은 단순한 터미널과 과학 계산용 서버를 연결하고 데이터 전송을 하는 목적에 국한되었으나 현재는 취급하는 정보가 다양해지고 수많은 사용자들이 개인용 컴퓨터를 갖게 되고 정보 통신망이 대규모로 확산됨에 따라 멀티미디어 데이터의 전송, 교환, 생성, 가공, 축적, 변환, 수집으로 기능이 확대되었다. 또한, 컴퓨터 그래픽 기술이 발달하므로서 네트워크를 통한 그래픽 전송 특히 3D그래픽 전송을 통한 서비스에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에따라 개발된 VRML(Virtual Reality Modeling Language)에 대한 소개와 이를 이용한 관광 가이드 서비스개발에 대한 과정 및 3D모델링, 응용 분야에 대하여 알아 보고 가상현실 기반 가이드 서비스에 대한 기초 연구를 통해 발생된 문제점과 도출해 낼수 있는 결과 및 앞으로의 개선 방향에 대하여 알아보기로 한다. 알아보기로 한다.
