  • This study conducted an exploratory empirical analysis on the factors affecting the performance of digital classical music based on signaling theory. For this purpose, using the classical weekly chart provided by the music platform Genie, 297 digital music sources that entered the top 100 chart from March 2020 to October 2020 (35 weeks). In this study, as signals that can influence consumers' choice to listen to classical nusic, we set an the artist's award history, artist's broadcast content linkage, taking the top spot in the first classical music chart entry, producing companies' competency, and the popularity of classical music repertoire. The effect of these signals on the chart success of digital classical music was verified subsequently. As a result of the verification, it was found that the artist's broadcast content linkage, taking the top spot in the first classical music chart entry, and the popularity of the classical music repertoire indeed had a positive effect on the chart success of a classical music. On the other hand, the artist's award history and the producing companies' competence did not significantly affect the chart success of digital classical music. This study is the first empirical study on the success factors of digital classical music performed from a business perspective, and is expected to contribute to subsequent studies related to classical music.

  • The current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of music enrichment on the live body weight of chickens and meat quality grade of the carcasses. Fourteen flocks at four broiler farms with identical windowless houses were provided with identical starter and finisher diets. These were either exposed to classical music or not exposed to any music from the starter to slaughter age. At 30 days posthatch, the chickens were transported from farms to a slaughterhouse. Two hundred carcasses from each flock were randomly selected for measurement of the carcass traits by the licensed meat inspectors at the slaughterhouse. The live body weights at the slaughter age were not significantly different between the two treatments. In addition, music enrichment did not affect meat freshness (i.e., torrymeter values) nor did it affect other carcass trait variables including percentage of bruises, flesh blemishes, abnormalities, and quality A grade. In conclusion, music enrichment did not affect the body weight or carcass quality of broiler chickens.

  • Audio tuning improves not only the sound quality of the car audio but also the quality of the completed car itself. However without the subjective assessment on the users' preferences, it is hard to tune the car audio satisfying them. Even though there are lots of factors to be considered to assess the preferences, only a restricted number of factors should be included in the experiment because the total number of experiments increases rapidly as the number of factors in the experiment increases. A large number of factors make it hard to explore the relationship between the sound quality and the sound characteristics and also makes the panels exhausted. In this paper, 8 sound characteristics, each with 2 levels, are considered for the experiment. An orthogonal design of experiment is suggested to reduce the number of experiments from 256 to 16. The analysis of variance is applied to show that Treble is the most significant characteristic of the reproduced sound of the given pop music. Also Deep Bass, SAD, and the interaction between Treble and SAD are found to be significant. For the given classic music, SAD is the only characteristic which turns out to be significant.

  • The Korean $taeg{\breve{u}}m$, a horizontal bamboo flute, is considered a representative wind instrument of Korean traditional music. Symbolized by its unique timbre and diverse techniques, this instrument transmits the beauty of Korea, and has become acknowledged even in international music scenes. Being a $taeg{\breve{u}}m$ player, composer, and ethnomusicology researcher, I have developed creative collaborations with musicians from Asian, electro-acoustic, jazz, and Western art music traditions developed outside my country of origin and tried to overcome musical boundaries through the 'intercultural performances' (after Turner 1988). Zooming in one collaboration, I detail the process of music creation and performance, collaborating with prominent Korean composer Kim $Taes{\breve{o}}ng$ (b.1967), who was commissioned by myself to write two compositions for the $taeg{\breve{u}}m$ and Western art music. The purpose is twofold: firstly, the modernization and appropriation of the Korean flute is briefly tracked down within the context of Western Art music. Secondly, a performance project is illustrated with the support of technical apparatuses such as DVD and CD recordings and delves further into the question of the 'cultural relativism' (Michael Tenzer, 2006: 7) through the interactive process. The performance-as-research, as a tool 'actualizing' (Richard Schechner 2003: 32) the hybridity, touches on critical domains in Ethnomusicology. The corresponding two parts discover, as Alan Merriam's(1964) 'tripartite model' suggests, the 'context' of Korean and Western cultures, the 'behaviour' of collaborating and performing and the 'sound' of improvised and composed productions in the course of music making.
