An Efficient Mutual Exclusion Algorithm for Hypercube Multicomputers (하이퍼큐브 멀티컴퓨터를 위한 효율적인 상호 배제 알고리즘)

  • We present an efficient decentralized, symmetric mutual exclusion algorithm for the hypercube architecture. The algorithm is based on the technique which embeds a mesh into a hypercube. We compare the performance of our algorithm with that of Gupta et al.'s algorithm. As a result of performance comparison, the minimum round-trip delay is equal to that of Gupta et al.'s algorithm, the average blocking delay is a little longer than that of Gupta et al.'s algorithm, and the number of messages per access to critical resource is fewer than that of Gupla et al.'s algorithm.

  • In this paper, an advanced load balancing algorithm in nth order Hypercube distributed system has been proposed. The new algorithm uses centralized load-balancing to avoid blocking phenomenon and processor thrashing, and shows the results which makes loads to approach average value of loads. The new algorithm is compared with several other algorithm and it shows a merit in cost function value.

  • 본 논문에서는 소형 큐브위성의 전력시스템 구성품의 용량 및 위성의 운용로직을 설계할 수 있는 소프트웨어 테스트베드 설계 방법을 제시한다. 기존 초소형 인공위성 시스템 설계를 위한 소프트웨어가 개발되어 상용품으로 판매되고 있으나, 주로 자세제어 시스템의 제어기 설계를 위해 소프트웨어가 사용되고있고, 텍스트기반 복잡한 구조로 되어있어 본 논문의 목적인 전력계 구성품 용량 및 운용로직을 설계하는데 이를 활용하기 어려운 측면이 있었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 전력시스템의 구성품들을 전력 및 에너지 방정식으로 모델링하여 Matlab/Simulink에서 이를 구현함으로써 가독성을 높여 시스템 설계 및 분석 시간을 줄일 수 있는 소프트웨어 테스트베드 설계방법을 제시한다. 제안된 소프트웨어 테스트베드를 이용한 3리터 사이즈의 소형 큐브위성 시스템의 구성품 용량 및 운용로직 설계 결과를 본 논문에서 제시한다.

Mesh-based Marching Cubes on the GPU (메시 기반 GPU 마칭큐브)

  • We propose a modified real-time marching cubes technique that extracts isosurfaces in the form of connected meshes instead of triangle soup. In this way, a various mesh-based isosurface rendering techniques can be implemented and additional information of the isosurfaces such as its topology can be extracted in real-time. In addition, we propose a real-time technique to extract adjacency-triangle structure for geometry shaders that can be used for various shading effects such as silhouette rendering. Compared with the previous technique that welds the output triangles of classical marching cubes, our technique shows up to 300% performance improvement.

  • Hypercube has a regular and hierarchical structure, therefore it can be applied to the development of efficient diagnosis algorithm. Kranakis and Pelc [7] have proposed HYP-DIAG algorithm to implement different method of HADA/IHADA and adaptive cube partition method after embedding the small size of ring that includes all the faulty nodes. In this paper, we propose new method to reduce testing rounds by analyzing the syndrome of RGC-rings gained in the first step of HYP-DIAG and analyze the proposed algorithm.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the general public with basic data to facilitate the application of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation(CPR). There were two groups using CPR mannequin and CPR cube, and participants were given three days of CPR training and two weeks later evaluated for chest compression. Participants recorded chest compression depth, rate of chest compression, accuracy of chest compression, insufficient recoil and incomplete place. There was a statistically significant difference in insufficient recoil and incomplete place in the study. The use of CPR cube to expand CPR education is also believed to be useful in terms of confidence and quality in implementing CPR.

  • This paper proposes a heuristic load balancing algorithm for multiprocessor systems. The algorithm minimizes the number of idle links to distribute load traffic and reduces its communication cost. Each processor iteratively tries to transfer unit load to/from every neighbor processors. However, real load transfer is collectively done after complete load traffic calculation to minimize useless traffic. The proposed algorithm can be employed in various interconnection topologies with slight modifications. In this paper, it is applied to both hypercube and mesh environments. For performance evaluation, simulation studies are performed. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared to those of two well-known algorithms. The results show that the proposed algorithm always balances the loads perfectly. Furthermore, it reduces the communication costs by $70{\%}{\~}90{\%}$ in the hypercube ; and it reduces the cost by $\75{\%}$ in the mesh, compared to existing algorithms.

  • MEMS solid thruster module is composed of solid thruster and its control board. It was developed for the purpose of an academic research. Therefore, thermo-mechanical design and verification for space usage were not considered in the design phase. To mount it on a cube satellite without any design modification, technical efforts at the system level structure design is required. In this study, we proposed a structural design concept to mount the MEMS thruster module by using brackets for guaranteeing structure safety under launch loads and easier mating and de-mating of MEMS thruster module during test phase. The effectiveness of the design has been verified through structural analysis and vibration test. In addition, electrical connection method using spring pins between MEMS thruster and control board is effective for guaranteeing the structural safety under launch vibration loads.

Performance Verification of Hinge Driving Segmented Nut Type Holding and Release Mechanism for Cube Satellite Applications (큐브위성용 힌지 구동형 분리너트식 구속분리장치의 실험적 성능검증)

  • Pyrotechnic devices are widely used for space appendages. However, a cube satellite requirements do not permit the use of explosive pyrotechnic device. A nichrome burn wire release has typically been used for holding and release of deployable appendages of the cube satellite due to its simplicity and low cost. However, relatively low mechanical constraint force and system complexity for application of multi-deployable systems are disadvantages of the conventional mechanism. To overcome these drawbacks, we developed a hinge driving segmented nut type holding and release mechanism based on the nichrome burn wire release. The functional performance of the mechanism has been verified through release function test, static load test and shock level measurement test.

Numerical and Experimental Thermal Validation on Pogo-pin based Wire Cutting Mechanism for CubeSat Applications (큐브위성용 포고핀 기반 열선절단 분리장치의 열적 거동 분석 및 검증)

  • A nylon wire holding and release mechanism (HRM) has been widely used for deployable applications of CubeSat owing to its simplicity and low cost. In general, structural safety of solar panel with an HRM has been designed by performing structural analysis under a launch environment. However, previous studies have not performed thermal analysis for HRM in an on-orbit environment. In this study, Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) thermal analysis was performed to evaluate thermal stability of the mechanism in the orbital thermal environment of the pogo pin-based HRM applied to CubeSat. In addition, the effectiveness of the thermal design and performance of the pogo pin-based HRM were verified through a thermal vacuum test.
