  • This study investigated their properties of spalling resistance and residual compressive strength after fire test corresponding to various ISO, RABT heating curves, and contents of hybrid organic fiber of high strength concrete. The results were summarized as following. As fundamental characters of concrete with hybrid organic fiber, the flowability was directly declined as the increase of fiber contents, and air contents were decreased or increased a little bit, but there was not big difference. The compressive strength was gradually declined sluggishly at 28 days. As properties of fire resistance, in case of RABT heating curves, compare with ISO heating curves a spalling aspect showed till range that has much contents of hybrid organic fiber, but they are mostly peeling spalling, which means spalling aspect didn't happen to inside. In conclusion, in case of W/B 25% high strength concrete, the spalling was prevented over 0.04% of contents of fiber at ISO heating curve and over 0.10% of contents of fiber at the RABT heating curve. In case of spalling was prevented, mass reduction rate according to the change of heating temperature curves showed around 7% at ISO heating curves and around 9% at RABT heating curves. The residual compressive strength rate corresponding to the change of heating temperature curves showed 50%~60% at ISO heating temperature curves and 30%~35% at RABT heating temperature curves in case of spalling was prevented.

  • This paper reviews the relevant literatures and investigates spalling mechanism of high strength concrete, in order to clearly inform spalling problem in fire. Firstly, we studies literatures on spalling occurrence and resistance methods. Secondly chemical change of concrete components in elevated temperature was presented. Finally, mechanism of the spalling occurrence and spalling resistance were carried out with fiber content. In addition, our research team introduced spalling mechanism, being different from other points of view, which has been generally accepted. To secure this mechanism theory, we investigate spalling properties of certain specimens fabricated by roller spindle and made with mortar or concrete condition.

  • High strength concrete(HSC) is made with Fiber-cocktail to control the spalling of HSC. In this paper, the column is made with PP fiber of $1.5kg/m^3$ and steel fiber of 20, 30, $40kg/m^3$, and the test are observed the temperature of reinforced bars and concrete. The results that increasing of temperature is delay as increase of steel fiber's volume.

  • A spalling is defined as the damages of concrete exposed to high temperature during the fire by causing cracks and localized bursting of small pieces of concrete. It is reported that spalling is caused by the vapor pressure and polypropylene(PP) fiber has an important role in protecting from spalling. The characteristics of fire resistance of high-strength reinforced concrete columns with various concrete strength and various contents of PP fiber were investigated in this study. In results, the ratio of unstressed residual strength of columns increases as the concrete strength increases and the ratio of unstressed residual strength of columns exposed to fire decreases as the content of PP fiber increases from 0% to 0.2%.

  • This study evaluated fire resistance performance for hybrid (polypropylene+steel) fiber reinforced high strength concrete column. Full-size columns were constructed and tested with or without fibers using ISO-834 fire curve. As the result of test, Control specimen occurred serious spalling and indicated rapidly internal temperature increasing. Specimen with polypropylene fiber occurred not spalling but steady internal temperature increasing. Specimen with hybrid fiber occurred not spalling as well as does not propagated temperature distribution. Therefore, hybrid fiber reinforced column specimen indicated a good fire resistance performance than other cases.

  • The objective of the present study is to investigate how elevated temperature ranging from $100^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ as well as room temperature affects the variation of mechanical properties of high strength concrete ($over\;f_{ck}=60MPa\;grade$). In this experiment, specimens were exposed for a period of $2^{\circ}C/min$ to temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$ $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$, respectively. Accordingly, the study investigated the fire resistance performance of high strength concrete mixed with composite fibers which composed with hybrid fibers and steel fibers. After cooling down to ambient temperature, the following basic mechanical properties were then evaluated and compared with reference values obtained prior to thermal exposure: (i) compressive strength in room temperature; (ii) residual compressive strength; (iii) Poisson's ratio; (iv) weight change; (v) SEM analysis & XRD analysis In addition, XRD and SEM Images analyses were performed to investigate chemical and physical characteristics of high strength concrete with composite fibers according to high temperature.

  • Although concrete is considered as fire proof materials, high strength concrete shows severe material and structural damages when exposed to fire. To understand such damages in high strength concrete structures, the effects of various design parameters and fire condition on the thermal behaviors of high strength concrete structures are investigated in this study. In order to achieve this goal, fire tests are performed on high strength concrete columns with different fire conditions and design parameters including cross sectional area, cover thickness, and reinforcement alignment. To investigate thermal behaviors, temperature distributions and amount of spalling are measured. In overall, the columns show rapidly increasing inner temperatures between 30~60 mins of the fire tests due to spalling. In detail, the higher temperature distributions are observed from the columns with the larger cross section and less cover thickness. Moreover, among the columns with same reinforcing ratio, larger number of reinforcements with the smaller diameter causes the higher temperature distribution. The findings from the experimental study allow not only understanding of thermal behaviors of high strength concrete columns under fire, but also guidance in revising fire safety design.

  • Recently, the effects of high temperature and fiber content on the residual mechnical properties of high-strength concrete were experimentally investigated. In this paper, residual mechanical properties of concrete with water to cement (w/c) ratios of 0.55, 0.42 and 0.35 exposed to high temperature are compared with those obtained in fiber reinforced concrete with similar characteristics ranging from 0.05% to 0.20% polypropylene (PP) fiber volume percentage. Also, factors including pre-load levels of 20% and 40% of the maximum load at room temperature are considered. Outbreak time, thermal strain, length change, and mass loss were tested to determine compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, and energy absorption capacity. From the results, in order to prevent the explosive spalling of 50 MPa grade concretes exposed to high temperature, more than 0.05 vol. % of PP fibers is needed. Also, the cross-sectional area of PP fiber can influence the residual mechanical properties and spalling tendency of fiber reinforced concrete exposed to high temperature. Especially, the external loading increases not only the residual mechanical properties of concrete but also the risk of spalling and brittle failure tendency.
