This paper was accomplished for analyzing the reason of the above deterioration happened on the deck of concrete bridge. The bridge was constructed at 660m above the sea level having more freezing and snowing days. Therefore, it is placed on the particular condition sprinkling $CaCl_2$ enough for keeping up with moderate traffic condition. When it is considered to the former condition, the bridge can be assumed to potentialities for combined deterioration with freezing-thawing under sprinkling deicing chemical. Core specimens were gathered from the concrete deck for clearing the reason of the above deterioration exactly, and it is used for various tests for measuring the compressive strength, elastic modulus, content of $Cl^-$, freezing-thawing at the fresh and salt water. As a result of freezing-thawing test, the specimen at the fresh water has over 90$\%$ of durability factor, but another specimen at 1$\%$ of salt water has 0$\%$ of durability factor at 140 cycles of the freezing-thawing. The result means that frost damage is sccelerated at the salt water. Therefore, the deterioration of the concrete deck is estimated to be occured by combined effects of freezing-thawing and chloride ion attack.
In South Korea, problems caused by material deterioration of time-worn concrete structures have been increased recently. Because severe material deterioration could damage the structure's safety, it's important to evaluate the old structure's condition and structural capacity regularly to keep its proper performance. The safety evaluation of concrete structures has been initiated and performed periodically since 1995 according to a guideline in accordance with a law in Korea. The guideline prescribes the evaluation types, intervals and methods of the target structure. A lot of cost and labor have been invested every year to carry out the regular safety evaluation. However, it's not clear that the current manual could inspect the old structure's condition and assess the structural capacity precisely. Thus, the verification study initiated to figure out the Korean safety evaluation manual's practicalness. First, the Korean manual was analyzed and then compared with that of other countries for concrete bridges which are representative concrete structure. After that, the previously written evaluation reports were collected and analyzed to find out how the safety evaluation has been carried out. Based on the study results, the parts requiring verification of the manual were drawn. A research program is in progress in order to verify the parts by performing tests with actual structural members from decommissioned concrete bridges.

In this paper the method for repair LCC evaluation of reinforced concrete structures deteriorated by chloride attack was constructed. Also, the FEM analysis for chloride ion penetration into concrete was conducted to evaluate the repair LCC which was decided by the number of repair times including early stages of construction and repair construction during the service life of structures. As a result, the number of repair times is obtained from the comparing the concentration of the chloride ion in a rebar position, and the critical chloride ion concentration of rebar corrosion through the FEM analysis considering the kind of repair materials and methods. Also, the repair LCC could be calculated by the number of repair times during the service life of structures.
In this study, for improving of concrete properties, those are used ground granulated blast slag(GGBS) and fly ash(FA). There are some advantage to add the GGBS and FA in plain concrete. The objective of this study is to find the characteristics of fresh and hardened antiwashout underwater concrete which is followed by blended ratio of GGBS and FA. Experimental parameters were chosen that W/C was 50%, S/a was 40% and as the blended ratio of GGBS was set at 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60% and FA was set at 0, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35% in order to prove the properties of antiwashout underwater concrete can be changed by blended ratio of GGBS md FA. It was measured pH, suspension and slump flow of fresh antiwashout underwater concrete and compressive strength of hardened antiwashout underwater concrete in age of 7 days, 28 days and 56 days. The experimental results of fresh concrete show that pH, suspension and slump flow were all satisfied with KSCE (Korea Society of Civil Engineering) standard value and mix design standard value. To synthetically consider, the optimum blended ratio is about 30% of GGBS and FA.

Concrete Soil Erosion Control Dam, which blocks flow of debris flow in torrential stream, are reported to lose expected functions due to structural failure and collapses, caused by poor construction, material deterioration and external impacts. In this paper, an integrity assessment technique for debris barriers was proposed, which allows preliminary detection of problems inherent in debris barriers. The proposed integrity assessment technique is a non-destructive method based on SASW method, one of surface-wave tests. In this paper, a practical procedure and analysis guidelines in applying the SASW technique to debris barrier was proposed and its validity was verified using five decrepit debris barriers older than 20-year old. As a result, the SASW method was validated for the reliable grade evaluation method for concrete soil erosion control dam, and the resulting grades turned out to agree with the results determined by Sabang Associations.

Recently, many researches on crack healing and repairing technique using bacteria which can produce vital-reacted calcite have been proposed. This study is for a basic research on repair material with slime formation through bacteria and deals with durability evaluation for coating materials containing bacteria-forming slime. For the work, 4 types of bacteria (Rhodobacter capsulatus, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Bacillus thuringiensis, and Bacillus subtilis) and 2 types of nutrient conditions are considered, and several tests covering strength evaluation under sulfate condition, accelerated chloride diffusion, and UV (Ultrasonic Velocity) measurement are performed. Strength improvement in coating materials containing bacteria is evaluated in spite of even exposure to sulfate attack to 7 days. Chloride diffusion coefficient and UV properties are also improved except for the case of Rhodopseudomonas palustris. With resistance of slime to long term exposure and aerobic conditions for bacteria longevity, the proposed bacteria shows an engineering feasibility for repair material of RC structure exposed harsh environment.
Recently, the deterioration of concrete structures have been increased by the damage from salt, carbonization, freezing & thawing and the others. Therefore, the measures for the deterioration of concretes have been taken. Among them, it has been often used that surface treatment which cut off the deterioration factors of durability by protecting the surface of concrete. The water proof and repair materials for concrete mainly use organic materials such as epoxy, these materials excel in intial bonding force and resistance to chemical agents. But they cause difference in the modulus of elasticity and the rate of shrinkage and expansion of concrete, and thus result in such problems as scaling and spatting in the progress of time. Therefore in this study it develop the performance Improving agent of concrete surface that can block a deterioration cause such as $CO_2$ gas, chloride ion and water from the outside and enhance waterproofing ability by reinforcing the concrete surface when applying it to concrete structures.

It is essential that service life of reinforced concrete structures in economic and safety aspects should be secured. It is well-known that chloride attack is a typical deterioration mechanism in field concrete structures. To prevent serious accidents like collapse, many studies have been conducted to increase resistance of chloride ingress using concrete mixed with GGBS. The usage of GGBS concrete is nowadays mandatory. Since most concretes in the field are unsaturated, study regarding chloride absorption is necessary, but many studies have focused on the chloride diffusion phenomenon. Methods for evaluating chloride absorption are cost and improper in the field. It is necessary to develop a simple method for evaluating chloride absorption in practice. This study evaluated resistance of chloride ingress in GGBS concretes with impedance measurement and absorption test. From the results, it was confirmed that the contents of absorbed chloride were linearly correlated with the measured electrical resistivities (or conductivities) in the concrete. At the end of the test, the electrical conductivities were 250.8 S/m (w/b=0.4) and 303.1 S/m (w/b=0.6) for PC concretes, and 2.6 S/m (w/b=0.4) and 64.4 S/m (w/b=0.6) for GGBS concretes, respectively. Considering influencing factors for chloride absorption and impedance measurement, chloride ingress into concrete is mainly affected by pore structures due to replacement of GGBS. Especially, formations of pore structure are different with binder, thereby binders should be considered in building reinforced concrete structures exposed to chloride environments.

In general, carbonation and chlorine ions are the most harmful causes of deterioration of concrete structures. Recently, a method has been developed to control the corrosion of rebar in concrete containing chloride by impregnating a Surface coating material with a inhibitor. In this study, accelerated carbonation and differential thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTA) and CASS tests were carried out to evaluate the characteristics of Surface coatings containing Organic Corrosion inhibitors which are excellent in corrosion inhibition and fix degradation causes $CO_2$ and $Cl^-$. As a result of the experiment, TG-DTA analysis and accelerated carbonation showed that $CO_2$ was directly reacted with amine derivative in concrete by the incorporation of Organic Corrosion inhibitor. In other words, $CO_2$ was immobilized and carbonation inhibition effect was confirmed. In addition, in the CASS test, the specimen coated with the Surface coating material containing the Organic Corrosion inhibitor with $Cl^-$ fixing property showed no corrosion until the 28th day and had excellent performance in preventing corrosion of a rebar by the chloride ion.
