  • This is an experiment to complement new ways of using concentrated water discharged from the seawater desalination plant. In this study, metakaolin, which has excellent chloride ion immobilization effect, was used as the main binder, and 10% and 20% of calcium oxide were substituted with the activator. In addition, tap-water(TW) and reverse osmosis brine water(RW) were used as mixed water. As a result of the experiment, the mixture using RW showed higher compressive strength than TW. It also showed low water absorption and high density. In the mixture using RW as mixed water, a hydration reaction substance called Friedel's salt could be observed. Considering the corrosion problem of steel, RW is considered to be applicable to products such as non-reinforced concrete, brick, and curb stone. Through this study, it is thought that it is meaningful to propose a new application method other than the ocean release of RW.

  • Fine aggregate made of ferronickel slag(FNS) is similar to natural fine aggregates and is used in concrete structures both domestically and abroad, but its applications and research areas are limited. In this research, in order to expand the availability of FNS and improve the performance of cement mortar products, the applicability of FNS on dry mortar for floor was examined. Experimental results show that FNS improves flow of cement mortar because it has low absorption rate, spherical shape, and glassy surface. Also, the high stiffness of the FNS aggregate itself is considered to contribute to the improvement of cement mortar quality such as crack reduction by improving the compressive strength and shrinkage reducing. In addition, when FNS fine aggregate is applied, it was possible to secure the impact sound insulation performance equal to or higher than that of mortar using natural fine aggregate.

  • This study reviewed the possibility of recycling into exhausted aggregate resources in Korea as a means of utilizing coal gasification slag(CGS) from integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC) while being commissioned in order to introduce the new system to Korea. In other words, in order to solve the problem of insufficient aggregate resources, CGS generated by IGCC as a residual aggregate for concrete secondary products, which is an empty mortar, was considered to replace CGS in the range of 0 to 100 % for mixed residual aggregate mixed with crushed sand A(CSa) of good quality and sea sand(SS) of deep particles, which are the most commonly used in the domestic construction industry. According to the study, replacing CGS with CSa or crushed sand B(CSb)+SS by 25 % to 50 % resulted in good results in the aspect of the granularity of the aggregate and the workability and compressive strength of cement mortar, which were found to be usable.

  • In this study, physical properties and EMP shielding performance evaluation of cement paste according to the amount of milled carbon fiber was conducted to develop EMP shielding cement using carbon fiber. The length of the milled carbon fiber used was 100㎛, and it was used as a cement admixture because it showed a powdery form to the naked eye. As a result of the experiment, when 5% of the amount of cement was used, the milled carbon fiber was effective in compressive strength and EMP shielding, and the shielding effect did not increase when used beyond that. As a result of examining the EMP shielding performance according to the thickness of the specimen, the plain without milled carbon fiber had no effect of increasing the shielding rate according to the thickness. The shielding performance of the specimens using the milled carbon fiber increased as the thickness increased. Therefore, in order to increase the EMP shielding rate when comparing and evaluating the performance according to the amount of milled carbon fiber used and the thickness of the specimen, 5% of the milled carbon fiber used is optimal. In addition, the method of increasing the thickness is considered to be effective.

  • High-purity waste CNTs were mixed into cement mortar to manufacture heat-generating concrete that can use low voltage power, and carbon fiber and waste cathode materials were also used improve the conductivity of the mortar. The waste CNTs were analyzed to have a high concentration of multi-walled CNTs, and substituted liquid type waste CNTs were used during mortar mixing in order to increase dispersibility. The temperature change of the mortar with CNT was evaluated when using electric power below DC 24 V in order to utilize a small self-generation facility such as small solar power module when the mortar heats up and to minimize electromagnetic waves. When liquid-type waste CNTs were applied and a voltage of DC 24 V was introduced, it rose to 60 ℃ in a 200 × 100 × 50 mm mortar block specimen. The field applicability of self heating mortar with waste CNT was sufficient and also the amount of change in heat energy in mortar with liquid type waste CNT, carbon fiber and waste cathode materials is more effective compared to it of other variables.

  • In this study, the fluidity, mechanical properties and microstructure of cement pastes with carbon nanotube (CNT) were experimentally investigated. The 6 types of cement paste mixes with different PCE:CNT and w/b had been manufactured, and several tests including flow, compressive strength, absorption and water porosity were performed on cement pastes with or without CNT.Additionally, microstructural observations such as x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were carried out to examine hydrates formed in cement paste with CNT. As a result, it was found that the performance of cement pastes with CNT was better compared to that of control cement paste (OPC) due to both of hydration acceleration effect and filling effect. Furthermore, the SEM images clearly showed that CNT can bridge cracks formed in cement matrix. Conclusively, it is believed that the CNT, if mixed appropriately, could be an option as nono-materials to improve performance of concrete structures.

  • Buildings that have been long neglected can suffer severe durability reduction due to factors such as rebar rust and concrete quality deterioration resulting from exposure to outside air. Furthermore, the issues associated with these suspended buildings, including safety accidents, social crimes, and environmental pollution, are becoming increasingly serious. This study investigates the current status of these buildings in the Jeju area, identifies the problems, and examines the durability of the structure in a specific location to assess the possibility of future use. Aesthetic surveys(visual and slope inspections) as well as non-destructive tests(compressive strength tests, neutralization tests, and rebar detection tests) were conducted to assess durability. The analysis revealed that the structure maintained satisfactory durability and the building's condition was good in comparison to the years of neglect.

  • This paper investigates experimentally the confining effect, strengthening capacity and rebound rate of sprayed Fiber-Reinforced-Polymer (SFRP). From the method, resin and chopped fibers are sprayed separately from the nozzle with high pressure, and then they are attached to the concrete surface, so structure could be repaired. To evaluate the strengthening effect of sprayed FRP, cylindrical specimens and beam specimens were strengthening with SFRP. As main material of FRP, glass fiber and polyester resin are used. To investigate the optimum condition of sprayed FRP, the effects of fiber length, coating thickness, fiber volume ratio and concrete strength were examined. Capacities of sprayed FRP method were also compared to the FRP sheet method. In case of the sprayed FRP, rebound rate is important parameter considering economical efficiency and constructibility, so rebound rate of was discussed. From the test results, optimum conditions of sprayed FRP were determined. SFRP method showed superior strengthening capacities than FRP sheet method.

  • The recent government policy for environment is pursuing for a circular waste control system not only to reduce waste as much as possible but also to vigorously use the already produced waste. Copper slag has a higher fineness modulus and a greater specific gravity than natural aggregate. but when the substitutive ratio of fine aggregate is higher than 30%, material segregation occurs by bleeding. Thus, in this study, the strength and the physical properties were tested for the specimens manufactured by varying the types of admixtures, and the substitutive ratio of copper slag to suppress material segregation occurring due to the bleeding of concrete using copper slag as the substitutive material of fine aggregate and to find the adequate substitutive ratio of copper slag.

  • This study is to examine the influence of defective grain shape of coarse aggregate and lowered fineness modulus of fine aggregate on the characteristics of high flowing concrete. The flow ability and compact ability of high flowing concrete was examined using fine aggregate, varying its fineness modulus to 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5, and coarse aggregate with before and after grain shape improvement. Also the influence of fineness modulus of fine aggregate and grain shape of coarse aggregate on dispersion distance of particles of aggregate was examined by relatively comparing the dispersion distance between particles of aggregate. According to the experimental result, minimum porosity when mixing fine aggregate and coarse aggregate was shown in order of fineness modulus of fine aggregate, 3.0, 2.5, 2.0, 3.5, regardless of the improvement of grain shape. So when the fineness modulus is bigger or smaller than KS Standard $2.3\~3.1$, the porosity increased. When the spherical rate of the grain shape of coarse aggregate unproved from 0.69, a disk shape to 0.78 sphere shape, the rate of fine aggregate, which represents minimum porosity, decreased $6\%$ from $47\%\;to\;41\%$. The 28 days compressive strength according to fineness modulus of fine aggregate increased about 3 ma as the fineness modulus increased from 2.0 to 2,5, and 3.0. However, the 28 days compressive strength decreased about 9 ma at 3.5 fineness modulus as compared with 3.0 fineness modulus. The improvement of grain shape in coarse aggregate and increase of fineness modulus in fine aggregate made the flow ability, compact ability, and V-rod flowing time improve. Also the fineness modulus of fine aggregate increased the paste volume ratio when a higher value was used within the scope of KS Standard $2.3\~3.1$.
