  • Effects of annealing of the gas-atomized Fe-9%Si-2%Cr powder which is suitable for high frequency application in mobile devices because of its high electrical resistivity were studied with an emphasis on the order-disorder phase transition. The formation of B2 ordered phase could not be suppressed during atomization process. When the powder was annealed at a temperature higher than $550^{\circ}C$ the peak diffracted from $DO_3$ phase could be detected. With increasing annealing temperature lattice parameter and coercivity decreased. An interesting phenomenon was an abrupt increment of coercivity in the powder annealed at $450^{\circ}C$. Highest permeability could be shown in the powder annealed at a relative low temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ and then the permeability decreased with annealing temperature. The above-mentioned results could be successfully explained by both the formation of $DO_3$ ordered phases and the change of electrical resistivity of the Fe-Si-Cr powder which was also originated from the phase transition.

  • The construction of super tall building which structure is RC and must be certainly considered on column shortening estimation and construction reflected concrete creep has been increased. Regarding the Fck 60~80MPa grade high strength concrete applied in the domestic super tall building project, the mechanical properties and creep deflection according to curing conditions(Drying creep/Basic creep) were reviewed in this research. Results of compressive strength and elastic modulus under sealed curing condition were 5% higher than unsealed condition and difference of results according to the curing condition was increased over time. Autogenous and drying shrinkage tendency showed adversely in the case of high strength concrete. Additionally, creep modulus under unseal curing condition was evaluated 2~3 times higher than sealed condition. Modified model of ACI-209 based on test result was applied to estimate long period shortening of vertical members(such as Core Wall/Mega Column) exactly, it is designed to modify and suggest the optimal creep model based on various data accumulated during construction, in the future.

  • The deployable reflector antenna consists of 24 unit main reflectors, and is mounted on a launch vehicle in a folded state. This satellite reaches the operating orbit and the antenna of satellite is deployed, and performs a mission. The deployable reflector antenna has the advantage of reduce the storage volume of payload of launch vehicle, allowing large space structures to be mounted in the limited storage space of the launch vehicle. In this paper, structural analysis was performed on the main reflector constituting the deployable reflector antenna, and through this, the initial conceptual design was performed. Lightweight composite main reflector was designed by applying a carbon fiber composite and honeycomb core. The laminate pattern and shape were selected as design variables and a design that satisfies the operation conditions was derived. Then, the performance of the lightweight composite reflector antenna was analyzed by performing detailed structural analysis on modal analysis, quasi-static, thermal gradient, and dynamic behavior.

  • The strength of concrete is one of the most important parameters in evaluating the properties of concrete. Compressive strength of concrete has been widely used because of its convenience of experiments and generality. Compressive strength of concrete varies according to materials and curing conditions. Even with the same materials, the strength varies according to the curing conditions. Therefore, if we want to know the strength of concrete from the construction field, we have to put it in exactly the same curing condition with the construction field. But it is impossible to make the exactly same curing conditions in the laboratory. Also damages occur in order to measure the strength of concrete, because the core hat to be made into the pavement. To overcome these limits, many studies of nondestructive method have already been researched. It was already proven that shear wave velocity was very closely related to the compressive strength. In this study, three different curing temperatures with the same mixture paste were used, and compressive strength and shear wave velocity, according to the aging were measured. The relationship between these two parameters was examined. As results, curing temperature affected the compressive strength and the shear wave velocity, but did not affect the relation between them.

  • Many harbor structures have been constructed, and some structures are now under construction in Korea, which is a peninsular state and a logistics hub in Northeast Asia. Expansions and extensions of existing harbors are also being planned to meet increasing natural disaster threats. Wave-dissipation concrete blocks are recycled or discarded based on the personal experience of engineers only, and there are no safety checks or criteria. To check the safety of used blocks, material evaluations were done by visual inspection of blocks on the ground and under water and from 20 non-destructive measurements of the rebound hardness test and 3 concrete core samples. Wave-dissipation blocks are sometimes fully or partially damaged in the process of transferring and mounting them or during construction. Therefore, a safety check is essential for recycling blocks with an evaluation of materials while considering the construction phases. To do this, a block was modeled with a 3D finite element method using ADINA, and impact analyses were done according to the transfer, mounting, and construction phases. From the results of the impact analyses and material evaluation, the safety checks and reasonable evaluation of used blocks were examined, and detailed construction methods are proposed. The methods are expected to maximize the reuse of used wave-dissipation blocks from an economical point of view.

  • Air spoiler, which can reduce the drag during operation, can be considered as a possible means to reduce carbon dioxide emission and to increase fuel efficiency. In this study, a composite air spoiler was designed and tested by static and repeated loads. The Green Water Pressure of 0.1 MPa a ship experiences during operation was perpendicularly applied to the air spoiler. Air spoiler was manufactured with sandwich panel which has glass fabric face and balsa core. Multiple sandwich panels were assembled to steel frame by bolt joint. The joint was designed to have bearing failure and examined by static and fatigue tests. Tests showed that the designed joint has enough margin of safety to endure joint failure. The developed sandwich panel to air spoiler is planned to be applied to a large scale commercial ship.

  • A conventional approach for the treatment of long-span edentulous areas is the use of removable dentures. However, placing implants in these areas results in superior functional outcomes by increasing the stability, support, and resistance of the prostheses and improving the masticatory efficiency. Treatment modalities utilizing implants can be further classified into either removable or fixed-type prostheses. Several factors such as the amount of alveolar bone resorption, inter-arch relationship, patient preferences, and socioeconomic status should be considered when determining the appropriate treatment approach. Monolithic zirconia has been considered a suitable material for implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis, because of the drastic improvement in its mechanical properties. It exhibits fewer incidences of fracture and chipping of the prostheses, and has greater bulk of material than metal-ceramic crowns and zirconia-veneered ceramics. Moreover, highly translucent monolithic zirconia is also available in the market, and its application is gradually increasing for anterior tooth rehabilitation. The present report describes a patient who underwent full-mouth rehabilitation with fixed dental prostheses (eight upper and three lower implant placements). All teeth, except bilateral mandibular canines and left mandibular first and second premolars, were extracted after the diagnosis of generalized chronic moderate-to-advanced periodontitis of the remaining teeth. The patient reported satisfactory esthetic and functional outcomes during the one-year follow-up visit.

  • The development of an analysis model that reflects the microstructure characteristics of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber-reinforced cementitious composites, which have a highly complex microstructure, enables synergy between efficient material design and real experiments. PVA fiber orientations are an important factor that influences the mechanical behavior of PVA fiber-reinforced cementitious composites. Owing to the difficulty in distinguishing the gray level value obtained from micro-CT images of PVA fibers from adjacent phases, fiber segmentation is time-consuming work. In this study, a micro-CT test with a voxel size of 0.65 ㎛3 was performed to investigate the three-dimensional distribution of fibers. To segment the fibers and generate training data, histogram, morphology, and gradient-based phase-segmentation methods were used. A U-net model was proposed to segment fibers from micro-CT images of PVA fiber-reinforced cementitious composites. Data augmentation was applied to increase the accuracy of the training, using a total of 1024 images as training data. The performance of the model was evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. The trained model achieved a high fiber segmentation performance and efficiency, and the approach can be applied to other specimens as well.

  • It is essential to develop a light-weight, high-performance structure for the deployable reflector antenna, which is the payload of a reconnaissance satellite, considering launch and orbital operation performance. Among them, the composite main reflector is a key component that constitutes a deployable reflector antenna. In particular, the development of a high-performance main reflector is required to acquire high-quality satellite images after agile attitude control maneuvers during satellite missions. To develop main reflector, the initial design of the main reflector was confirmed considering the structural performance according to the laminate stacking design and material properties of the composite main reflector that constitutes the deployable reflector antenna. Based on the initial design, four types of composite main reflectors were manufactured with the variable for manufacturing process. As variables for manufacturing process, the curing process of the composite structure, the application of adhesive film between the carbon fiber composite sheet and the honeycomb core, and the venting path inside the sandwich composite were selected. After manufacture main reflector, weight measurement, non-destructive testing(NDT), surface error measurement, and modal test were performed on the four types of main reflectors produced. By selecting a manufacturing process that does not apply adhesive film and includes venting path, for a composite main reflector with light weight and structural performance, we developed and verified a main reflector that can be applied to the SAR(Synthetic Aperture Rader) satellite.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate effect of specimen preparation method on the microtensile bond strength of veneering ceramic to zirconia core. Materials and methods: Cylindrical Lava zirconia block (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) was cut into discs using a diamond disc. After sintering, the core specimens were placed in an adjustable mold and veneered with Lava ceram (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany). The disc shaped specimen of group 1 was cut into microbars ($1{\times}1{\times}7\;mm^3$) using a low speed diamond disc under water cooling (n = 15). The specimen of group 2 was cut into microbars ($1.2{\times}1.2{\times}7\;mm^3$) in the same way. Whereafter the microbars were trimmed ($1{\times}1{\times}7\;mm^3$) using a thick diamond disc under water cooling (n = 15). The microtensile bond strength was tested in a microtensile tester (Instron 8848, $Instron^{(R)}$ Co., Norwood, USA). Fractured microtensile specimens were analyzed under a stereomicroscope (MZ6, Leica Microsystems GmbH, Wetzlar, Germany) at magnification ${\times}30$. Results: The microtensile bond strength of group 1 ($28.8{\pm}7.0\;MPa$) was significantly higher than group 2 ($11.0{\pm}33\;MPa$) (P=.00). Conclusion: It appears advisable to avoid the trimming action, especially high strength ceramic specimens.
