Kinematic Analysis of a Continuously Variable Valve Actuation Mechanism with Movable Second Cam Center (2차 캠 중심 이동형 연속가변밸브 구동기구의 기구학 해석)

  • This paper introduces a new variable valve actuation mechanism with movable second cam center. Valve lift and open duration can be continuously varied according to engine speed and load conditions. A new method to analyze the kinematic relations between the first and second cam profiles and valve motion are also introduced. Because of rocker motion of the second cam, conventional motion conversion program could not be used in this problem. An example shows continuous variations of valve motion and adequate ramp incorporation throughout all valve lift modes. Valve acceleration profile at the high lift mode is similar to that of conventional valvetrains. Contact geometry analysis of the mechanism gives basic information on the load conditions between the components.

  • A method for the design of a disk cam with a remote follower is presented. ADAMS software is utilized for the design process. The whole process is applied for the design of a cam profile to be used in a tappet shedding device of a shuttle loom. First the desired motion of the remote follower, the hearld frame in this case, is determined to improve the characteristic of a certain weaving process. Next, the desired displacement data is input to the ADAMS software and the cam profile is obtained as an output. To test the validity of the proposed method, designed cams were actually manufactured and implemented on a experimental loom. And with the help of potentiometer type displacement transducers, the motion of the remote followers were actually recorded. And the result was sufficient to prove the validity of the presented method.

  • Cylindrical Cam Mechanism is widely used in the fields of industries, such as machine tool exchangers, textile machinery. This paper proposes a method for manufacturing of cylindrical cam in Multi CNC machining center. Multi CNC machining center has two different types depending on the tilting axis. For the manufacturing procedures. in this paper the location and the orientation of cutter path are defined from shape design data of cam. The integral NC code fur the both types of multi-axis CNC machining center can be created using the coordinates mapping between design coordinates and work coordinates. Finally, CAD/CAM program is developed on $C^{++}$ language. This program can display manufacturing and kinematics simulation, which can make integral NC code for multi-axis CNC machining center of two types.

Optimum Design of Beating Cam for High Speed Rapier Loom (고속 래피어 직기용 바듸침 캠의 최적설계)

  • This paper deals with the design and analysis of a beating cam. The beating device of a high speed rapier loom, weaving fabric by completion of warp-weft patterns, is driven by double cam type on the same axis. As the double cam, coupled with two cams, performs the mutual conjugate motion, the double cam must be very preciously designed for smooth. For the shape design of a double cam, an instant velocity center method is proposed. This method can determine the cam profile from the contact conditions of the cam and roller follower and the velocity relationships at the instant velocity center. And the practical applicability was verified by developing “DISKCAM of a CAD program. As the results in this paper, the shapes of two cams, which are in the conjugate motion, are designed by instant velocity center method. We applied 8-order polynominals for the beating as displace¬ment curves for shape determination of double cams. The data of displacement, velocity, and acceleration of beating cam can be used adjust in accurate operation and to develope an advanced beating device.

  • A barrel cam is used as a very important part of an index drive unit. The index drive unit must have an intermittent-rotational motion. The barrel typed cam and roller gear mechanism has the advantages of high reliability to perform a prescribed motion of a follower. This paper proposes a new method for the shape design of the barrel cam and also a CAD program is developed by using the proposed method. As defined in this paper, the relative velocity method for the shape design calculates the relative velocity of the follower versus cam at a center of roller, and then detemines a contact point by using the geometric relationships and the kinematic constraints, where the direction of the relative velocity must be parallel to a common tangential line at the contact point of two independent bodies, i.e. the cam and the follower. Then, the shape of the cam is defined by the coordinate transformation of the trace of the contact points. This paper presents shape design of the barrel cam in order to prove the accuracy of the proposed methods

  • The cam is used to a main component in a variety of automatic machines and instruments. To meet the demand of a complicated operation and of reducing weight for automatic machine, Curve Blending Technology, in which each of the basic curves suitable for individual interval is connected, is used for the cam design. In the curve blending, it is necessary to select appropriate elementary curve for each interval and to confirm the dynamic continuity at connecting points between adjoining elementary curves. This paper represented the elementary curve selection method to select an appropriate curve for each interval, and executed computation for the follower displacement and angular displacement of each interval. The paper made an analysis and examine closely for elementary curves to synthesizing curve blending, and it performed dynamic conditions clearly at every points on the cam motions. Therefore the curve blending technology presented by the paper turned into easier work.

  • In this paper, and optimum profile of a cam being used in a VTR Deck mechanism is designed by the response surface analysis. The objective function of the design is to reduce driving torque of the pinch roller system that is used to compress video tape to the capstan motor axia. The pinch roller system that will be designed is modeled using the general purpopse mechanism analysis program DADS. The computer model is compared with the physical system for reliability. A model function to represent relationship between design variables and the objective function is estimated by the response surface analysis. Once the model function is reliably estimated the optimal design is carried out using the model function and each design variable's boundaries. To verify improvement of the pinch roller system, a prototype for the pinch rooler system is made and tested. From the test result, an optimum cam profile to resuce driving torque of the pinch roller system is verified.

  • Current mechanical devices are trending toward being a small size, high speedy, automation. For performing these functions, machinery elements organizing a machine should be designed exactly. Cams have high confidence and economics in ablility to transmit a motion. Accordingly, A cam mechanism is very important for processing the machine automatically. This paper introduce an inverse cam mechanism. A square shaped cam which cannot be commonly analyzed is designed and manufactured by using the NURBS interpolation algorithm. The objective of this paper is to develop a computer-aided design program. In this paper, a displacement curve of oscillating motion inverse cam mechanism with square shaped follower is analyzed. The data is redistibuted by the NURBS algorithm. A cam shape is designed by the instant velocity center method, and simulated to verify the validity of the operation state.
