A Study on the Analysis of Animation Characters on Abnormal Psychoanalysis (이상심리학에서 본 애니메이션캐릭터의 성격별 유형분석)

  • This paper analyzes patterns of various characters in an animation story. Animation characters are the important element in a story. They reflect social facts and work an element showing internal aspects of human-beings. At first we need enough scientific basis to understand the development of these characters. Therefore, this paper analyzes the characters of 19 Disney animation on the basis of character disorder in abnormal psychoanalysis and establishes database of animation characters. This database can be a help to the develoment of new characters. Also, I think that characters inclination can be applied to fostering Emotion and education of animation audiences.

  • Similar to the other cultural contents, the character industry is based on the media which acts as the technological background. In fact, the character industry is the process of that a created character accesses to the consumers via media, builds its value and becomes licensed as a brand in the market. Therefore, it is crucial to select the most effective media for the consistence of a character in the market, as well as for construction of a higher brand quality of the character. Today, "Webtoon" might be considered as one of the marketing means which utilizes the Internet media for raising the character as a brand. Webtoon has apparent strength because it can be produced in shorter period and with less expense than through other media. Furthermore, Webtoon can be simply featured by the easiness of two-way communication and transference to another media through it. For these reasons, and according to the result of analyzing some Korean Webtoons, it seems obvious that the most effective media in character marketing is the Internet. In addition to the Internet, the strategic development in the media-mix is also important for establishing a brand of a character. However, the effective media-mix is available only when the character's external identity meets with the trait of its media. For the purpose of learning how the media-mix works when a character reaches for the consumers, a character "Hamataeng" was born and used in the experiment. This study will explain the marketing process through the use of own-created Webtoon and other contents, and suggest the ways to build a brand of a character. In addition, it is also indicated that a media-mixing strategy for transformation and expansion of the character to other media.

  • The study looks a shape of hybrid character in animation and suggests extended discussion to develop the Korean creative characters and to repeat traditional culture that can reproduce in mass media. First, this study considers Jangseung and Dokkaebi that appear frequently in the Korean traditional culture, and prepares a way to try to develop the Korean hybrid characters. To do this, I analyze examples of hybrid characters direction in as-found animation characters, and grasp the meaning of it. Hybrid character is classified as a character produced by mix and combination of shape and a character produced by shape exaggeration. And I shed new light on characters and meanings of Jangseung and Dokkaebi remaining as cultural assets. Through this, the study wants to help handling measure about a problem of character that the Korean animation has. Therefore, this study looks characters of description about imaginary creatures expressed in existing animations, and wants to shed new light on the Korean Jangseung and Dokkaebi regarded as from an object of folk religion and custom, to an object that is possible to use in the Korean traditional character development.

  • 최근 온라인 게임을 비롯하여 영화, 애니메이션 등 가상현실에서 캐릭터가 중심적인 역할을 하게 되었고 좀 더 능동적이고 사람에 가까운 캐릭터 개발이 필요하게 되었다. 이러한 요구 중에서 본 논문에서는 감성기반 캐릭터에 초점을 맞추었고 Emotion Al사의 Artificial Emotion Engine Model과 OCC Model를 바탕으로 각 캐릭터의 특성을 반영하고 캐릭터간의 상호 작용을 바탕으로 감성을 도출해 낼 수 있는 Emotion Engine의 Architecture를 제시한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 캐릭터 챗봇을 학습시키고, 학습된 모델을 React 기반 웹 페이지에 통합하는 것을 목표로 한다. 웹 페이지 사용자들은 실시간으로 게임이나 영화 캐릭터와 대화할 수 있는 기능을 제공받게 된다. 캐릭터 챗봇은 사용자의 질문을 이해하고 학습된 캐릭터의 특성에 따라 적절한 응답을 생성함으로써 상호작용하게 된다. 사용자가 웹 페이지에서 입력한 질문이나 요청은 챗봇 모델을 통해 처리되며, AI 챗봇은 학습된 지식과 데이터를 활용하여 응답을 생성한다. 사용자는 웹 페이지에서 자연스러운 대화를 통해 원하는 캐릭터와 대화를 이어갈 수 있게 된다.

Face and Its Components Extraction of Animation Characters Based on Dominant Colors (주색상 기반의 애니메이션 캐릭터 얼굴과 구성요소 검출)

  • The necessity of research on extracting information of face and facial components in animation characters have been increasing since they can effectively express the emotion and personality of characters. In this paper, we introduce a method to extract face and facial components of animation characters by defining a mesh model adequate for characters and by using dominant colors. The suggested algorithm first generates a mesh model for animation characters, and extracts dominant colors for face and facial components by adapting the mesh model to the face of a model character. Then, using the dominant colors, we extract candidate areas of the face and facial components from input images and verify if the extracted areas are real face or facial components by means of color similarity measure. The experimental results show that our method can reliably detect face and facial components of animation characters.

  • Customizing system is acting a main role for the character production system of MMORPG. However, since using the high degree of freedom in MMORPG, these characters are too individual and lack of awareness. We can describe each character's emotional characteristics and understand the correlation of characters more easily by adjusting design factors capable of cognitive decision to characters. Game character developer should consider seeking efficient character design process that is suitable to MMORPG game environment and users for proper character recognition and promoting character preferences. In addition, this research being extended on the article vol.13, no.3, "A Study on Cognitive and Preference of Games' Character" on Korean Society of Basic Design in June 2012 issue and this study is expected to have effectives as one method for the purpose of this research is to inquire and present what type of relation lies between recognition and preference of game characters of MMORPG.

  • Competition among local governments in a competitive global festival and the festival is going to become the intensify regional strategies as enabled by the improved local image production and has been a symbol of the festival and each municipality is competitive. A study on the chronology of children's cartoon focused on the character (캐릭터 중심으로 본 어린이 만화연대기 연구)

  • This study analyzed the chronology of children's cartoon through character while the children's cartoon section is planned at the Memorial Exhibition of 100th year of Korean Cartoon which will be held at the Contemporary Art Gallery in celebration of the 100th year after birth of Korean Cartoon. The approaching method based on character is regarded as the most proper and feasible in the identification of character and meaning of children's cartoon because the character in cartoon contains the bigger role and meaning than the descriptive structure of narration. The Committee of 100th Year of Korean Cartoon, Aicheorum which is a study association for children's cartoon and Cartoon My Love $Cafe^{42)}$ in Naver jointly selected the 70 cartoon characters. A brief history is established based on these characters through chronological classification in seven sectors of around 10 year session such as before 1950s of quickening period and liberation, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1000s, 1900s and after 2000. It examined the historical meaning, its reflection and characteristics focused on the cartoon character and the cartoonist which were well-known to everybody not only the display according to chronological order. The study intented the stereoscopic illumination on the children's cartoon and character which were favored beyond the generations. In addition, the similarity and human relation among cartoonist to cartoonist and character to character were analyzed and traced to identity the fact that children cartoon character is not individualistic being but it lies on the extension of tradition and trend of eternal cartoon history Finally, hopefully it will make a contribution to activate the pure creative children's cartoon in Korea through reminding the importance of character in cartoon, affirming the industrial value and reflecting the direction and perspective of pure creative children's cartoon.

  • Since Korea started producing original animations targeting children, market of character for children has been led by TV animation with continuous broadcasting and OSMU. With a successful fondation in animation toy industry, its market is expanding to film industry, at the same time, brings positive effect for benefit of domestic animation. Therefore, this study researched viewing rate of children's TV animation and analyzed character storytelling to help foster and grow the direction of future animation characters. For the analysis, I selected 20 animations with high viewing rate and analyzed the storytelling of 95 characters based on their roles. The results of this study are as follows: in children's animation appeared various types of characters helping each other to make the viewer learn socializing. In addition, character's external setting varied depending on its role. Moreover, in the characters' internal setting, the most frequently appeared keyword was leadership, however, their personality keyword varied depending on the role.
