  • This study focuses on the fact that intrinsic motivation which becomes the force to promote narrative is reinforced as a polyphonic structure through the psychodynamics of fear and desire internalized in a character, and from this perspective, it analyzes character rising strategies shown in Pixar's movie, . To verify fear and desire of a character, this study uses Enneagram personality types theory as the frame of analysis and reaches the following conclusions: (1) The main character, Carl's emotion originated from fear and desire was metaphorized as Muntz and Russell each, so the inside psychodynamics and the outer event visualizing it are set as contrapuntal composition. (2) However, inversely to the enhancement of Carl's polyphonicity, that excellent strategy works as the limit that restricts the psychodynamics of Muntz and Russell to a certain range. Lastly, it is expected that this study will be suggested as a sort of methodology about character rising strategies as turned into the database to which the result of follow-up research will be added, too.

Sano asserts that we respect our own free well and love ourselves just as cats do in her books. In conclusion, cats in Sano's work mostly represent the author herself, which are sometimes depicted as mother and son. • This study investigates trends and changes in gender expression in film and animation. It compares how gender, race, and class discrimination that was socially and culturally expressed differently in past and modern media contents. Indiscriminate content appreciation by the "digital native" generation is likely to unconsciously create false stereotypes. In this study, 「Aladdin」(1992) and 「Aladdin」(2019) were analyzed. This study looks at in the characters have changed since the original, which was a 2D animation in 1992, was re-released as a live-action film in 2019. For character analysis, we compare and analyze major characters and find out the differences based on the nine personality types of Enneagram, which define human personality types. As a result, Princess Jasmine's character change was remarkable. In the past, Disney animations had the majority of patriarchal and male-dependent princess characters, but now Disney is aiming for self-directed and independent female characters. Also, scenes that could instill stereotypes of gender, race, and class were changed. Disney's change can be seen as expressing the gender image that the public wants. Analysis of the change in character's personality in these works can be a useful methodology for creating attractive characters for the public.

  • The character is not dependent on an original story world any more. It is not limited to it's own story, but gets out and expands the other story with new character, background story, and event regardless of genre and media. The purpose of this study is to analyze why should this phenomenon happen from the media perspective and to build a character storytelling model through the specific examples. With the advent of the digital paradigm the storytelling model is emphasized character storytelling. Character is no longer limited to just one narrative and extended beyond the boundary narrative, media and genre. There are four background. First, disappearance of the big story with the advent of postmodernism and the emergnece of small story. Second, the emergence of fandom culture and charater's liberalization. Third, character as public goods with database. Fourth, changes in author's position. In fact, in the traditional narrative theory there has been discussion about the character all the time. But character storytelling meets transmedia storytelling, discussions were accelerated. The character was preceded by a narrative independent existence. Even if that character has occurred even while leading cause narrative. In this paper, we suggest two model as specific methodology to expand the story world fixed character. One is phychology transition, another is roll transition. This study get the value to build the new storytelling model with digital paradigm.

  • An animation film, , is a work that declared a perfect revival of Disney. It is considered that the success was the result of its impressive theme song and characters working influentially. The main characters let audience experience empathy as well as catharsis by building the image of women making their own future without relying on men, and among the characters, Elsa is still popular even if one year has passed since its premiere in Korea. In the narrative genre, the character's degree of completion is regarded to be so important that it can even determine the work's success or failure. Accordingly, to analyze the personality structure among the major components of character rising, this study focuses on the psychodynamics of fear and desire which determines the directions of thought or behavior. Fear is the emotion attributed not to a real threat but to an ominous assumption about the future. Because fear that is originated from the memory of any deficit or suppression distorts our sound needs, escaping from fear means facing the reality. To verify the unique psychodynamics of the characters, the researcher analyzed the hierarchy of their attitudes, psychological dispositions, and psychic functions by using 'MBTI Personality Typology'. According to the results, (1) Elsa and Anna are in a conflicting relationship in terms of psychic functions. Although they are the combination that shows the highest possibility of conflict, the two sisters overcome it basically grounded on fellowship and family love. (2) Although Hans and Kristoff, too, are against each other in terms of psychic functions, the two male characters do not interact with each other in the work. (3) Hans is a person equipped with psychic functions that can complement both Elsa and Anna the most effectively, but he abuses it and turns into the most fatal opponent to them. (4) Olaf is a type of person combining Anna's attitudes with Elsa's psychological dispositions. And according to the results of analyzing the frequency of expressing fear and desire, (1) Elsa employs overwhelming fear and Anna and others characters use desire as the major drive of their behavior. (2) Fear is the underlying deficit internalized in every character and is attributed to 'the deficit of family love', and as a result, they all share the pain of 'loneliness and isolation'. It is thought that analyzing psychodynamics will help us understand the character's growth tale, that is, the narration that they distort their desire for the first motive to avoid fear and end up being ruled by it, and also, they realize the underlying reason for the distorted desire in the process of getting rid of their own fear and reach self-healing. Lastly, regarding character rising in the animation, it is expected that the directions and analysis results of this research will be referred to as a database in creating characters and setting up relations among them.

  • Along with language, emotion is an effective means of expression. By expressing our emotions as well as speaking language, we can deliver our message better. Because each person expresses the same emotion differently, this expression is a useful gauge to measure an individual personality. To avoid monotonous emotional expression from virtual characters, therefore, it is necessary to adjust the creation and deletion of the same emotion depending on each character's personality. This paper has attempted to define personality characteristics that have an impact on each emotion and propose a method to adjust the emotions. Furthermore, the relationship between particular emotion and personality characteristics has been defined by matching the significance of specified personality characteristics with the lexical meaning. In addition, using the Raw Score, the weighted value which is necessary for the adjustment, continuance and deletion of each emotion has been defined. Then, emotion was properly adjusted. When the same emotion was adjusted using actual personality test data, different results have been observed by personality. This paper has been conducted using NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI) which consisted of 5 broad domains and 30 sub domains.
