  • Effects of application method of eight nematicides on reproduction of iweloidogyne arenaria were tested in pot. In pre-treatment, cadusafos , dazomet, fosthiazate reduced over 90% in number of egg masses of M. arenaria at recommended rate . Carbofuran showed similar reduction only at three times of recommended rate. Benfuracarb was the least effective. Post-treatments, in general, were less effective than pre-treatment except fostiazate which reduced root egg mass of iW. arenaria as much as pre-treatment at recommended rate . Systematic nematicide, fosthiazate has potential as post-treatment nematicide.

  • To reduce crop damage from root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne spp. chemical, cultural, physical control methods were compared in commercial greenhouse for 3 years from 1992 to 1994. Timing of sol exchange for economic losses due to the nematodes is important: every 3 years for coarse sand (Masatto) and every 4 years for red-yellow soil. Control effects on Meloidogyne spp. in cucumber were 78.2% in Dazomet DP, 72.1% Carbo G+Soil reverse+submergence, and 66.3% in Carbo G+submergence. Pesticide effects were temporally different after treatment: 77.7~80.6% in 20 days and 33.7~49.5% in 60 days. Cropping system in oriental melon gave an excellent control effect of 81.1% at oriental melon/rice culture. All methods controled root-knot nematodes at the time of the treatment but the number of the nematodes increased at the end of the season. However, soil exchange was effective for 3 years. The most economic control practice is rotation with rice for every three years.

  • Experiments were caried out to invesstigate the effects of seed disinfectant and the chemical control method in the paddy field for the rice white-tip nematode, Aphelenchoides besseyi. All three seed disinfectants tested, MEP 50% EC, Fenthion 50% EC, Dasuzin 34% EC showed effective control without any symptom of phytotoxicity. Mixed treatments with fungicides, Benoram 40% Wp, proraz-25% EC, TCM 30% EC also showed the effective control and no phytotoxicity. Effective chemical control methods for the rice white-tip nematode in paddy fields was seed disinfectant before seeding and Carbofuran 3% G. on the day before the transplanting, or seed disinfectatnt + Carbofuran 3% G. water surface treatment on the early stage of injury.

  • Grape phylloxera, Daktulosphaira vitifoliae(Fitch), is a destructive grape insect pest because it forms root galls and kills the plant by directly destroying root system. The effects of insecticide treatments were examined to establish the chemical control system of phylloxera, and the damage by this insect was investigated in grapevine yards. The treatments of 40kg carbofuran 3GR per ha and carbosulfan 20WP of 10$\ell$ (1,000$\times$) per tree successfully reduced phylloxera densities. After the insecticide treatments in early season, the phylloxera population rebuilt up again at harvest season. In a grapevine yard where two times of carbofuran treatment (mid-May and post-harvest treatment) were applied a year from 1998 to 2000, total yield per ha in 2000 showed an increase of 30% over that of 1998. But the yield in 2000 was low 20% compared to the average standard yield of Korean grapevine yards. In a grapevine yard without chemical treatment during the same years, total yield per ha in 2000 showed 53% reduction compared to that of 1998. Also, damaged vines by phylloxera abruptly increased from 3% in 1998 to 50% in 2000.

  • In this study, we tried to figure out the ecology of Masakimyia pustulae Yukawa et Sunose which attacts evergreen euonymus and results in scenic damage caused by early falling of leaves and may increase the susceptibility for anthrocnose. In addition, we tried to develope a method for the control of the insect to prevent spreading of the damage by use of insecticide. The results obtained from the study were as follows : 1. Masakimyia pustulae emerged from late April to late May at Chuncheon area. Average length of the adult insects was $1.88{\pm}0.43mm$, and the life span of them reached about 11 hours. The sex ratio of the insect was 56 : 44(female : male), and they ovipositied $90{\pm}28$ eggs. The shape of eggs was oval with average length $0.32{\pm}0.013mm$. The length of larvae averaged $1.64{\pm}0.25mm$ and started pupation from mid-March, which took about 40~50 days, although there was variance due to temperature variation in each spring. 2. The 3% powder of carbofuran treatment by burying $200g/m^3$ of the insecticide around the damaged tree during mid-March with additional burying about a week after pupation showed good result for the control of the insect, which resulted in more than 96.2% removal of the insects.

  • A series of experiments was carried out for selecting insecticides and determining proper spraying time to control pea weevil (Bruchus pisorum Linnaeus) in Jeonnam area. In the field trial two times spray with diazinon, carbaryl, imidacloprid, spinosad, etofenprox, clorpyrifos-methyl showed good control effect and threetimes spray showed the better control effect. The second spray (spraying on 10th of May) took the major role of insecticide effectiveness expression for controlling pea weevil. Further trial for selecting insecticides among organophosphates to control pea weevil in lab was conducted and every organophosphate insecticide tested was very effective to pea weevil even at the concentration of one forth of its recommending concentration.
