The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The satisfaction level with their department of dental hygiene students who were surveyed was 3.18 out of possible five points, which was on the average. 2. As for satisfaction level with the departments by educational system, the students who were in four-year colleges in the metropolitan area expressed lower satisfaction than the students who were in local and three-year colleges. The three-year college students were more gratified with the curriculums than the four-year college students(t=2.03, p<0.05), and the latter was more satisfied with the educational facilities(t=-4.12, p<0.001) and interpersonal relationships(t=-3.07, p<0.01) than the former. 3. In the case of the three-year college students, those whose colleges were located in the metropolitan area were more contented with the educational facilities(t=5.28, p<0.001), and there were no significant differences in satisfaction level with other factors. 4. In the case of the four-year college students, the local college students were more contented with the curriculums(t=-5.39, p<0.001), educational facilities(t=-5.18, p<0.001) and the departments(t=-3.98, p<0.001) than their counterparts in the colleges located in the metropolitan area. In terms of satisfaction level with the department of dental hygiene, the four-year college students located in the metropolitan area expressed noticeably lower satisfaction with the curriculums than the local and three-year college students. As a result, the development of each curriculum which is suitable for the four-year course is required, and so is the improvement in the educational facilities as well.
The objective of this research was to analyze and evaluate pre-dental hygiene curriculum of dental hygiene education program in USA and Canada. Sixty one programs were searched through their website. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relation between factors related to the clinical performance competency of dental hygiene students and their clinical learning environment. Methods: The study conducted a survey of dental hygiene students from October 18 to 30, 2023. The data were analyzed using one way analysis of variance, t-test, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The total practicum lasted ≤10 weeks, 11-15 weeks, and ≥16 weeks for 41.7%, 33.5%, and 24.8% of the students, respectively. Half of them had experience at only one clinical institution. Clinical learning environment had an average score of 3.46 points, whereas the average clinical performance competency of the participants was 3.60 points. The major influencing factors on clinical performance competency were identified as preceptor' s guidance (β=0.277), work participation opportunities (β=0.213), and perceived importance of clinical practice (β=0.136). Conclusions: Efforts are required to provide students with prior education on the importance of clinical practice, improve the clinical learning environment with a focus on preceptor's guidance and work participation opportunities. And standardize various elements to resolve differences in the practice of clinical institutions across regions.
Oral health knowledge, awareness and attitude towards parents of the dental hygiene students is giving a mutual influence over their children enrolled in the dental hygiene department. Therefore, the university is a situation that requires students to oral health education that can be caused by changes in attitudes and behavior, rather than a simple knowledge transfer. The results child's impact as a student in the dental hygiene department is older group were more statistically significant than the younger group. Oral Health Knowledge average of the parents of the grade your child is younger parents, older parents, cognitive average younger parents, older parents, education, whether through a child younger parents older parents, the impact is younger parents was higher in the upper grades to both parents of older parents. Therefore, the older the child the more it can be seen that grade their knowledge and habitual behavior affects the oral health knowledge and awareness of their parents.
The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the behavior status of oral health between dental hygiene and non-dental hygiene students. The subjects in this study were students from two different colleges that were respectively located in Seoul and Gwangju. In order to examine the necessity of oral-health education, the self-recorded questionnaires had been widely distributed and surveyed from June 2006 to May 2007. The following results were obtained on the basis of comparative analysis through the collected materials. 1. As a result of surveying the actual condition of managing oral health, regarding the frequency of tooth brush, the dental hygiene students were the largest in 3 times. And, the non-dental hygiene students were indicated to be the largest in two times(p < 0.01). 2. As for the experience of scaling, the dental hygiene students were the most in having experience(50.9%), and the non-dental hygiene students were the most in having no experience(56.8%)(p < 0.001). 3. As a result of examining about the experience of oral-health education, the dental hygiene students were many in a case of having experience. And, the non-dental hygiene students were many in a case of having no experience(p < 0.001). The findings of the study showed that in terms of the state of oral health care, the dental hygiene students who received a lot of oral health education excelled the other students who didn't.
The demand for medical care and welfare for patients with disabilities is expanding, and healthcare professionals are also increasingly interested in the need for medical care for patients with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the competency of disabled patients' management and the education experience of dental hygiene students, who are the main players of oral health care for disabled patients. A total of 196 students in the dental hygiene department and 3rd and 4th grade students were surveyed using questionnaires. As a result, most of the students had a positive awareness of disabled patients; 84.7% answered with the need to train dental hygienists in specializing in handicapped patients, 76.5% were willing to attend seminars related to disabled patients after graduation, and 71.4% of the students provided dental treatment for patients with disabilities in curriculum and comparative curriculum. The students who provided treatment for disabled patients showed that their competence in most areas of knowledge of disabled patients, oral health education, and oral disease prevention was highly evaluated as significant. The competence of respondents who answered that the theoretical education was sufficient was significantly higher. Based on this, institutional support for the education of dentistry for disabled patients is needed, and sufficient theoretical education and practical training should be offered to foster personnel capable of contributing to the improvement in the oral health of patients with disabilities. In addition, in-depth discussions on the training of dental hygienists specialized in handicapped patients should be conducted.
The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the development of dental hygiene education by analyzing factors affecting academic self-concept of dental hygiene department students. This study was conducted a questionnaire survey of 168 people who explained and agreed on the purpose of the study from October 10 to October 21, 2016. As a result of this study, the professional image of the dental hygienist had a positive effect(${\beta}=.43$, p<.001) on the major satisfaction of the dental hygienist, and the major satisfaction had a positive influence(${\beta}=.38$, p<.001) on the academic self-concept. Therefore, in order to motivate students' dental hygiene education, it is necessary to improve their major satisfaction and institutional improvement to improve the professional image of dental hygienists recognized by students.
This study aimed to identify the impact of human rights violations on elderly discrimination, focusing on the mediating effect of elderly-related experiences. After conducting a two-month survey of 143 dental students in some parts of Busan from September 4, 2020, hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to find out the mediating effects of elderly-related experiences using the SPSS 26.0 program. Dental hygiene students' perception of infringement on elderly human rights was shown to be significant in elderly discrimination(r=-.310) and elderly-related experiences(.185), indicating that elderly-related experiences were partially mediated in elderly human rights infringement and elderly discrimination. Therefore, this study intends to provide basic data on the development of dental hygiene curriculum in a super-aging society by reconsidering the need for senior-related experiences in dental hygiene and education.
