The study was intended to investigate the job values type of freshmen's in the dental hygiene department. A total of 280 freshmen in the dental hygiene departments of the 3 universities were surveyed, and of them, finally 242 volumes of questionnaire were analyzed. Their job values were categorized through twice factor analysis. The findings were as follows. 1. Freshmen's job values in the dental hygiene department were divided into 6 categories; (1) position (2) economic reward (3) social contribution (4) accomplishment (5) ability (6) job interest. 2. Social contribution, accomplishment, ability, and job interest were categorized into internal job values, and position and economic reward were externl ones. 3. Dental hygiene freshmen's external values index (4.24) were higher than internal ones (3.86). 4. Types of job values that dental hygiene freshmen thought important were economic reward (4.39), position (4.07), ability (3.98), and social contribution (3.46).
In this study, the positive thinking, academic self-efficacy, and school adjustment of freshman dental hygiene students were identified. The correlation between each variable was identified and the influencing factors were investigated. Data collection was conducted from October 1 to October 21, 2019 on 213 freshman dental hygiene students in Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do, and Gyeongsang-do regions. According to the study, the significant influence of freshman dental hygiene students' school adjustment was in the order of academic self-efficacy, positive thinking, and career program experience, and the most influential factors were academic self-efficacy, and the regression model explained was 47.7%. Since this study has been investigated and conducted on some freshman dental hygiene students, there is a limit to generalizing the results, subsequent studies will require continuous study of various variables for positive thinking and academic self-efficiency to school adjustment. However, based on this study, it is meaningful that it can be used as data to supplement the prior study related to school adjustment, and by presenting factors related to the school adjustment of freshman dental hygiene students, it is thought that it became basic data that confirmed the necessity of developing the school adjustment program.
The purpose of this study was on the learning satisfaction of dental hygiene students according to the face-to-face and non-face-to-face teaching methods in the COVID-19 educational environment. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 122 dental hygiene students of G University located in Gwangju from October to November, 2020. The general characteristics, instructional characteristics, teaching methods, and learning satisfaction were investigated, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. The effective practical teaching method chosen by the students was face-to-face, and there was a significant difference according to the class choice. The learning satisfaction according to the general characteristics showed a significant difference in the preferred practice method for improving instrument technique. The face-to-face classes showed significantly higher learning satisfaction in terms of checking on doing well study during class and the convenience. In addition, as a result of analyzing the factors influencing learning satisfaction, the choice of face-to-face class was confirmed as a significant variable. Therefore, in order to increase the learning satisfaction of students, it is necessary to design a class that essentially includes face-to-face class when planning a practice class.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of positive psychological capital on college life adaptation in freshmen of dental hygiene department of universities in Daegu, Busan and Ulsan. The major variables including hope, resilience, optimism, self-efficacy, academic adaptation, social adaptation, personal emotional adaptation, and university environment adaptation all showed significant positive correlations. Among the influential factors of positive psychological capital on college life adaptation, academic adaptation and social adaptation showed significant differences in optimism(p<.001) and self-efficacy(p<.001), while personal emotional adaptation and university environment adaptation showed significant differences in optimism(p<.001). Therefore, it is necessary to develop intervention programs that can improve positive psychological capital and apply them systematically to the educational field.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychosocial stress and depression symptoms in dental hygiene freshman. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire of 45 questions was filled out by 207 dental hygiene students in Gyeongnam from December 9 to 11, 2013. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0 program for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA. Results : Religion tended to influence on positive effects on academic stress because those having religion had less academic stress. Economic condition also influenced on physical and mental stress in the students($8.52{\pm}5.63$)(p=0.000). Low economic status influenced on academic problems(p=0.022), family problems(p=0.014), rational relationship problems(p=0.002), and interpersonal problems(p=0.007). There was no significant difference between future problems(p=0.125) and self-efficacy(p=0.076). The physical symptoms included digestive disorders($16.73{\pm}5.37$), cardiac symptoms($14.61{\pm}5.51$), headache($9.46{\pm}3.59$), insomnia($8.32{\pm}3.67$) (p=0.000). The mental symptoms included negative emotions($15.07{\pm}3.94$)(p=0.000). Conclusions : In order to reduce the psychosocial stress symptoms in dental hygiene freshman, it is important to develop the stress debriefing program in the future.
Objectives : The study was to examine satisfaction with their major study influences their perception of occupational consciousness among dental hygiene freshmen. Methods : The total of dental hygiene freshmen were conveniently recruited from four schools located in Gyeongsangnam-do, Ulsan and Busan city. A questionnaire was used to collect information about general characteristics and the perception of occupational consciousness and major study satisfaction. The statistical analysis was done by using the SPSS 18.0 program. Results : Dental hygiene freshmen who showed a positive their major satisfactory showed higher perception of occupational. The social recognition and position of job-consciousness was lowest at the score 2.55, harmony with a colleague is close to efficiency in duty of job-consciousness was highest at the score 3.54. Conclusions : We need a modifying and complement of the career guidance programs for dental hygiene freshmen.
The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of dental hygiene freshmen about their major and their occupational consciousness. The subjects in this study were 361 dental hygiene freshmen at three different colleges in Gyeonggi province. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 11.5 program. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for their view of occupation, the students made a well-paying job a priority(M = 2.97), and looked upon an occupation as a means of living(M = 1.60). Regarding the use of the profits of dental hospitals and clinics, they believed that they should reinvest their profits in a purchase of machinery, an expansion of facilities or technical development(M = 2.00). 2. Concerning relations between their motivation of college entrance and their satisfaction with their major, 96.6 percent of those who found their major satisfactory or quite satisfactory considered it to right up with their alley. 82.6 percent of them chose their major to get a stable job, and 62.8 percent of them did it through the advice of their families, relatives or regular teachers. 59.1 percent of them did it in consideration of their college entrance examination scores. Every student who were pressed for economic reasons to choose their major were unsatisfied with it. Thus, their motivation of college entrance made a statistically significantly wide difference to their satisfaction with major(p < 0.01). 3. They got a mean of 3.10 in occupational consciousness. By sub- category, they scored highest in interpersonal and work ethics(3.19 respectively). They got a mean of 3.04 in academic ethics, and got a mean of 2.99 in professional ethics, which was the lowest mark. 4. As to connections between their general characteristics and occupational consciousness, their occupational awareness was significantly different according to their motivation of college entrance and information they acquired at the time of college entrance(p < 0.05). In regard to the relationship of their satisfaction with major to their occupational awareness, their occupational consciousness statistically significantly varied with their department, their willingness of staying as a dental hygienist, the future prospect of dental hygienist (p < 0.01).
Background: The selection of an occupation is typically based on individuals' personalities and the characteristics of occupations, which significantly affect occupational consciousness. The present study aimed to enhance the occupational achievement level of and provide fundamental data for student counseling in order to develop competitive professional workers by understanding the occupational consciousness of freshmen and motivating them as dental hygienists with career development plans, as freshmen majoring in dental hygiene eventually play a significant role in the field of dentistry as dental hygienists. Methods: The surveys were distributed to 160 freshmen in the dental hygiene department and were subsequently collected. The data from 142 surveys were used for analysis, as 18 surveys were excluded due to insincere responses. The survey contents included questions related to major selection and satisfaction, including motives for selecting a dental hygiene major, prior knowledge on a dental hygiene major and a career as a dental hygienist, satisfaction level of the major, and reasons for dissatisfaction in cases if applicable, as well as questions related to occupational consciousness, including career prospects for dental hygienists, opinions on the occupation, and conditions of job selection. Results: High employment rate with good salary level ranked highest (43.7%) among motives to apply the dental hygiene major, followed by the desire to be a professional worker (21.1%) and recommendation by acquaintances. Of those who responded, 50.7% indicated a normal level of satisfaction with the major, and 69.9% responded that they had prior knowledge regarding the dental hygiene major and/or field of dental hygiene. These results may be due to youth unemployment and the occurrence of job preparation immediately after students enter university, which is a result of the difficulty in job seeking. In terms of career prospects, 48.6% of students responded with "growing a little bit," followed by "growing a lot" (28.9%), "no difference from now" (21.1%), and "other" (1.4%). Regarding opinions on the occupation, 65.5% responded that occupation was an tool with which to make and income or a living, 23.2% responded that occupation was for dreams and self-realization, and 11.3% responded that occupation was for success in life and maintaining social status. Regarding the conditions of job selection, the responses included that the workplace had good working conditions (39.4%), good interpersonal relationships (21.8%), and a higher salary (18.3%). This may reflect the change in work ethics among university students, according to the trend of the times. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, we found that educational guidance to enhance the level of satisfaction with the major, and career guidance to understand and apply the clear vision and long-term job security are necessary.
Background: Due to the declining number of students preparing for university entrance exams , the quota of universities has been decreasing continuously. This situation became increasingly diverse as new media used online, mobile, and PR tools to continuously invite students. This study is aimed at offering the helpful data to plan an effective PR strategy by analyzing the correlation between the major selection and satisfaction of the department's social media usage among freshmen majoring in dental hygiene. Methods: The collected data from the self-reported survey with freshmen were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program. The survey items were motive to select the major, social media platform that subjects used, reasons to use the media, time to visit the department's social media platform, and satisfaction level on the department's social media platform, using a 5-point Likert Scale. Results: The reasons for choosing a major were given by 32.2% and 15.9% respondents, respectively, as the vision after graduation and practice facilities. 39.9% and 31.4% used Instagram and YouTube for social media platforms, respectively, for using social media platform; 26.9% and 26.3% visited the department's social media before and after entering the university, respectively; 46.4% and 24.9% used Instagram and YouTube for department social media; and they generally satisfied with the contents of the department's social media. 40.9% of them said that information from the department's social media was useful. 33.8% of them said the information from the department's social media exceeded their expectations. 46.8% of them answered that the department's social media made the department's image positive. 33.4% got interested in the major more due to the department's social media. According to 32.1% of respondents, the department's social media was helpful in deciding on a major. With 35.4%, a positive correlation was discovered between the department's practice facilities and satisfaction on the department's social media. Conclusion: It is thought that the department's social media should try continuously by uploading the contents to meet the users' needs on a regular basis and seeking the plans to be able to collect various opinions using surveys through the related social media so that students can select the major and, moreover, lead the positive direction to adapt the university life under the unfamiliar environment after admission.

Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness in oral health promotion through oral health education for freshmen students of the dental hygiene department. Methods: To verify its effectiveness, research was conducted on 74 freshmen of the dental hygiene department by the evaluation of DMFT index, PHP index, and Cariview test (2015-2016). Results: The analysis of the test results using Cariview equipment shows a categorization of low risk group consisting of 10 students (13.5%), middle risk group consisting of 47 students (63.5%), and a high risk group consisting of 17 students (22.9%). DT index according to the number of daily tooth brushing by <2 is DT index average score higher and in such a case, statistics are considered meaningful (p<0.01). Oral health state at DMFT index of low risk group according to Cariview risk group for an analysis is lower than both the middle risk group and the high risk group (p<0.001). Conclusions: A review of the effect of the promotion of oral health through oral health education on the behavior change rather than of Cariview test and value of dental plaque through tooth brushing method was conducted.
