An eruption failure can be observed for child and adolescent periods when the primary dentition is changed to the permanent dentition through the mixed dentition frequently. The eruption failure can lead to miss erupting times of the tooth, then it will cause a lot of problems including root resorption, esthetic problem, transposition of adjacent tooth, malocclusoin and etc. Especially, the maxillary first molar is importantly concerned with occlusion and growth and is an essential tooth for development and maintenance of occlusion. So, it is a momentous part of more proper occlusal management to find these abnormal cases at the early stage and solve the problems. The sorts of eruption failures of the maxillary first molars can be divided into delayed eruption, impaction and the primary retention and the secondary retention. When physical obstacles cause impaction, first of all they must be removed then we can treat the impaction with observation after removal, surgical exposure or orthodontic traction. If the source of impaction is an ectopic eruption, the treatment can be a brasswire, a pendulum appliance, a space maintainer or space regainer after the extraction of the second deciduous tooth and etc. These cases are made a diagnosis of eruption failures of the maxillary first molars in mixed dentition period and have good prognosises after my treatments. So I reported them.

The dental caries can be recovered or worse depending on the velocity of de- and remineralization of tooth. It is possible to remineralize the lesions by fluoride agent, but the results can be distinguished according to one's salivary flow rate, quantity of ion contents, and pH of the saliva. This article presents good results after applying the CPP-ACP paste for the patients who have incipient enamel caries. We instructed the patients to apply the paste everyday in the customed tray. We observed the white spot lesions without getting worse and reducing the size of lesions. After applying the CPP-ACP paste for 6 weeks, we concluded that; 1. It was possible to remineralize the incipient caries without preparation of the teeth. 2. CPP-ACP paste was successful for recovery of the demineralized lesions, especially for mild and moderate caries lesions, not for the severe developemental defects or chronic lesions. 3. CPP-ACP paste was efficient for pediatric patients, and the custumed tray was very useful for patients to apply the paste. 4. The ability of the patients for caring their oral hygiene was improved by routine check up and instructions.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of national dental screening for children in Korea in the aspects of prevention of dental caries, the number of treatments related to dental caries, and cost of dental care. The study used the national cohort data on children health screening provided by National Health Insurance Service, and analyzed 32,937 1st dental screening, 22,608 2nd dental screening, 13,708 3rd dental screening, and 241,043 cases from the dental care of 27,944 children born in year 2008 and 2009. The decayed-filled teeth index and decayed-filled person rate, calculated from the results of the 2nd and 3rd dental screening, decreased as the number of preceding dental screening increased. Glass ionomer and amalgam restoration, pulp treatment of primary teeth and extraction of primary canine and molar were shown to decrease as the number of examined dental screening increased, and the total cost of dental care covered by national health insurance also decreased as the number of dental screening increased. In conclusion, national dental screening for children is an efficient and economical oral health care method that prevents dental caries and lowers the possibility of dental caries related treatment, thereby reducing cost of dental care.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of gargling solution with 0.05% NaF and 10% Xylitol in orthodontic patients with fixed appliance. The sample consisted of 20 patients who were classified into an experimental group and a control group, 10 patients each. Experimental group was used experimental gargling solution and the control group was used with placebo solution. The change of S. mutans was analysed by culture on MSB and BHI agar plate pre and post 3, 6, 9 weeks. The results were as follows. 1 There were significant reduction in the number of S. mutans C.F.U. between pre and post 3 weeks(p<0.01), 9 weeks(p<0.05) in experimental group 2. There were significant reduction in the ratio of S. mutans C.F.U. to total C.F.U. between pre and post 3, 6, 9 weeks(p<0.01) in experimental group. 3. S. mutans, which were reduced until 3 weeks, did not show significant change after 3, 6, 9 weeks. 4. S. mutans were strongly suppressed until 3 weeks after gargling solution with 0.05% NaF and 10% Xylitol.
This study was designed to investigate the correlation between the degree of knowledge in regards to the importance of oral health and the smile scores as well as the correlation between their actual oral conditions and smile scores. The author surveyed the knowledge and the actual oral health condition of the subjects, 150 high school students (80 males and 70 females), and their frontal pictures were taken when they had full smiles. After evaluation of the smiles of the subjects by five dentists, the results were analysed. This study showed that there was neither a correlation between the smile score and the knowledge of oral health nor the actual oral condition. The investigation showed that the actual oral condition and care was performed well even if there were some wrong answers in the questionnaire, which asked about proper oral health. In conclusion, the smile could be related to the repetition of the habit of smiling rather than being related to the knowledge of oral health or their actual oral condition.
This study was performed for the purpose of evaluating the stress distribution around threaded type implants, cylindrical type implants and teeth connected with rigid or non-rigid connector. The stress distribution around the surrounding bone was analyzed by three-dimensional photoelastic method. Twelve mandibular photoelastic epoxy resin models and a circular polariscope were used to record the isochromatic fringes. After the stress distribution around the implant and tooth was observed, the results were as follows ; 1. In threaded type implants, stress concentrated patterns were observed at the neck either vertical or 25 degree lateral force. 2. The stress concentrated patterns were observed at the tooth apical portion and neck portions of the implant and tooth when a threaded implant was connected with the tooth by either a rigid or non-rigid connector. More force was generated at the tooth neck portion by a rigid connector and more force at the implant neck portion by a non-rigid connector. 3. The stress concentrated patterns were observed at the apical portion of the implant and tooth when a cylindrical type ,implant was connected with the tooth either by a rigid or non-rigid connector. More force was generated at the tooth apical portion by a rigid connector and more force at the neck portion of the tooth and implant by a non-rigid connector. 4. The stress around the tooth was more equally distributed in a threaded type implant than in a cylindrical implant when the tooth was connected with either a rigid or non-rigid connector. 5. The stress around a threaded type implant was progressively more equally distributed in the following order : 1) when used a single implant, 2) a non-rigid connection with the implant and tooth, 3) a rigid connection with the implant and tooth, 4) a rigid connection with two implant fixtures.

The objective of this study is to find the improvement in the dental health care of the children through oral hygiene education and TBI. In Taebaek public health care center, an oral hygiene education, TBI and fluoride gel application was conducted 2 times for about 631 preschool children living in Taebaek City. The ages of preschool children were from 4 to 7. To examine the changes, a questionnaire was written and distributed for the collecting the results after the education of the second half for children, parents and teachers. As a result, the children showed better understanding of the caries through oral hygiene education and reduction of fright and fears for dental treatment. Many children learned how to brush and there was a significant increase in the number of brushing. Children learned to be able to classify good food and bad food for teeth and showed the change in eating habits although in small part through the oral hygiene education. Through this study, it is judged that the oral hygiene education of the preschool children has effectiveness and it is in need for the expansion of oral hygiene education in homes, kindergartens and dental offices.
The purpose of this study was to examine the types of implant, the type of bone graft, periodontal status and the distribution of implant among patients in a region. The subjects in this study were 299 patients who received implant treatment Busan area. The number of their implants was 871 in total. The findings of the study were as follows: As for the type of implant, home-made implants accounted for 83.6 percent, and imported ones represented 16.4 percent. Regarding bone graft, The presence or absence of disease made a significant difference to that($x^2$=14.66, p<.01). As to periodontal status by gender, age and disease, the periodontal state was better among those who were female(y=-2.73, p<.01), who were younger(F=14.20, p<.001) and who had no disease(t=-4.67, p<.001). The intergroup gaps were statistically significant. Concerning the distribution of implant, The distribution of implant was statistically significantly different($x^2$=33.14, p<.01). Age made a statistically significant difference to that($x^2$=74.09, p<.001). As to links between periodontal status and the number of implant, The intergroup gaps were statistically significant($x^2$=38.28, p<.01).
