  • Purpose: There is a growing concern for the cost management of medical institutions. The purpose of this study was to estimate Activity-Based Costing (ABC) for dental implant cost. ABC refers to allocating resources or cost based on the activities of services. Materials and methods: A dental institution located in the metropolitan area was selected in this study. The tax accounting data of the institution were utilized to confirm total cost, and the institution was asked to make out clinical activities to figure out what activities were carried out. The direct cost and indirect cost for dental implant were separately estimated, and cost driver was analyzed to estimate the indirect cost accurately. Results: The rates of the direct and indirect cost respectively stood at 35.8 and 49.5 percent. The cost for a dental implant was found to be approximately 1,579 won, and the cost of prosthetic surgery and treatment that included implant surgery accounted for the largest portion of the cost, which was 470 thousand won (30%). And the weight of training and education on dentistry was relatively higher than that of the other kinds of treatment. Conclusion: In order to ensure accurate and scientific costing for dental implant, not only direct medical procedure but every pre- and post-procedure activity should fully be taken into account. Pre-activities, post-activities, education and training are included in the indirect cost, but all these activities are mandatory and associated with the quality of treatment and the satisfaction level of patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing the decision to get implant treatment at dental clinic. The subjects in this study were 321 patients at dental hospitals and clinics. Andersen model in which predisposing variables, enabling variables and need variables were suggested as independent variables was used. The implant decision making was selected as a dependent variable in the model. Using logistic regression analysis, we found statistically significant effects of three independent variables: 1) class, 2) satisfaction with the facility; 3) familiarity with others received implant treatment. Those with the middle or high class background were more likely to take implant treatment. Those who were satisfied with clinic facility were more likely to take implant treatment. Those who were familiar with others received implant treatment were more likely to take implant treatment. This result implies the importance of opinion of others were received the same treatment. Hence viral marketing effort is required even in dental care field.

  • This research studiedthe correlation between dental implant patients' oral hygiene behaviors and satisfaction. By doing so, this study seeks to provide the basic data for the development of diagonal and educational programs to improve implant prosthesis maintenance and satisfaction. The data was collected from January 7 to June 30, 2014, analyzed by SAS (ver 9.2) and for this research, 6 dental hospitals and clinics in Daegu, Busan and Jinju, South Korea were examined for their implant patients receiving treatment. As a result, a total of 266 sets of data were investigated herein to reach the following findings: 1. The survey on status of dental implant prosthesis use and maintenance knowledge found 1.41 on average out of the total score of 3. 2. In the survey on implant prosthesis maintenance after putting in, the dental scaling cycle was found to be 'none' (63.2%). 3. In the survey on implant use status and satisfaction with their implant prosthesis, the masticatory function (p=0.001) were found to be significantly higher in the group using such oral-hygiene goods. 4. In the correlation analysis among one's knowledge on dental implant maintenance, discomfort and satisfaction, it was found that the more they used oral-hygiene supplementary goods (${\beta}=0.095$), the more they had knowledge on implant maintenance (${\beta}=0.069$) and the more they experienced oral health education (${\beta}=0.032$), the higher their satisfaction levels were. It is deemed that, for enhanced satisfaction of dental implant patients, their maintenance behaviors need to be further improved through oral health educational programs.

  • Purpose: After the introduction of concept of osteointegration, dental implantology have been successful procedure in the dental field. Recently, it has shown successful results when used to restore single tooth missing. Considering the difference in bone quality of the mandible and maxilla, and the increased occlusal force in the posterior region, the success rates in each region may be different. In this study, success rates of single implants placed in the mandibular first and second molar areas were analyzed. Materials and methods: The subjects were patients (284 patients, 308 implants) who had been operated with single implant installation from 2002 to 2009 in seven dental clinics in Daegu city. One hundred sixty eight implants were placed in the mandibular 1st molar and 140 implants were placed in the mandibular 2nd molar. They were analyzed according to implant site, age, sex, length and diameter. Results: The survival rates of single implant of this study were 97.6% in the mandibular 1st molar and 92.9% in the mandibular 2nd molar. In the mandibular 1st molar, 4 implants were failed. In the mandibular, 2nd molar, 10 implants were failed. Conclusion: The restoration of the mandibular 1st molar using single implant was found to be clinically acceptable treatment and showed higher survival rate than mandibular 2nd molar single implant. Single implant in mandibular 2nd molar needs careful consideration of poor bone quality, risk of overloading and anatomical structure of the mandible.

  • 3.2YSZ melted by the 'skull melting' method has good physical properties and does not undergo low-temperature degradation. Due to its excellent physical and mechanical properties, skull-melted 3.2YSZ has been developed as a dental implant material. In this study, a porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel was created and its grinding characteristics were compared with those of traditional nonporous wheels using skull-melted 3.2YSZ. The experimental results indicate that the porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel requires less grinding force and power. In addition, the porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel requires a greater degree of roughness.
