On-the-job Training Gap between regular and non-regular Workers and Wage Effects (정규직-비정규직 간 훈련격차와 임금효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the disparity in on-the-job training between regular and non-regular workers and to compare the wage effects of on-the-job training. Using the Korean micro data from the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies(PIAAC) published by OECD, Propensity Score Method(PSM) is applied to overcome the endogeneity problem. The average treatment effect(ATT) on the training participation is analyzed, using non-regular workers as treatment group and regular workers as comparison group. Odds ratios of non-regular employees' training participation compared to regular employees shows 0.67 times after constructing matching sample and this means that non-regular workers are facing a disadvantageous training opportunity compared to regular workers. In order to estimate the wage effect of on-the-job training, the average treatment effect(ATT) of on-the-job training on average wages for regular workers and non-regular workers is estimated respectively. I find insignificant wage effect from on-the-job training among regular workers and significant positive effect on non-regular worker's wage from on-the-job training.

Moderating Effects of Marital Fondness & Admiration and Father's Child Rearing Involvement on the Association between Parenting Stress and Marital Satisfaction: Comparison of Unemployed and Employed Mothers (어머니의 취업유무에 따른 양육스트레스와 결혼만족도의 관계: 부부간 호감과 존중과 아버지 양육참여의 조절효과)

  • This study investigated the moderating effects of marital fondness and admiration as well as the father's involvement in child rearing on the association between parenting stress and marital satisfaction for a comparison of unemployed and employed mothers. The subjects were 159 unemployed mothers and 103 employed mothers with children under 3 years of age. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, unemployed mothers who had a lower level of marital fondness and admiration were dissatisfied with their marriage when they had higher parenting stress. Marital fondness and admiration are necessary for unemployed mothers in their transition period to parents. Especially, it is important for fathers to understand challenging conditions and encourage and support the spouse. However, there was no moderating effect of the father's involvement in child rearing in the association between parenting stress and marital satisfaction. Second, employed mothers who had a lower level of father's involvement in child rearing were dissatisfied with their marriage when they had higher parenting stress. The father's involvement in child rearing is necessary for employed mothers in their transition period to parents. Furthermore, it is important to implement policies at the national level to support childcare hours for balanced work and life. However, there was no moderating effect of marital fondness and admiration for the association between parenting stress and marital satisfaction.

Experiences of Permanency Planning Establishment by Persons with Mental Disabilities (정신장애인의 평생계획수립을 위한 경험)

  • This study is a qualitative research whose purpose is to analyze subjective experiences of permanency planning establishment by persons with mental disabilities. For the purpose, this researcher selected 12 persons with mental disabilities who have been maintaining their job for more than 6 months since they got it independently and then profoundly interviewed them to examine their subjective experiences in permanency planning establishment. Data were collected from Jan. 11th to Feb. 10th, 2011. Statements by the participants were analyzed and, from which, 38 constructed meanings were obtained. Those meanings were grouped and classified according to their similarities. As a result, they were finally categorized into 17 themes and 7 theme clusters. Those 7 clusters included stable job maintenance, self-capacity development, social supports, health management, awareness in preparation for the future, hopeful thinking and various social activities. Based on the findings of the study, finally, the researcher suggested some practical implications.

  • Due to Corona 19, non-face-to-face education was conducted at general universities, so it was necessary to conduct non-face-to-face faculty advisor counseling. SNS counseling using photovoices was conducted in the 6th session and FGI for 10, 3rd graders in the early childhood education department of a college in the metropolitan area. The results of the study analyzing students' perceptions of the counseling and content of the counseling are as follows. First, the research participants positively recognized the SNS counseling that applied the photovoice technique. Second, they gradually adapted to non-face-to-face daily life and learning and evaluated the positive aspects, but they complained of fear in career and employment. A non-face-to-face counseling strategy and follow-up studies were proposed through this case study.

  • The current study uses photovoice, a participatory and quantitative method of research, to understand the stress in the youth through the experiences of university students. The study was conducted in the order of education, data collection, data analysis for six session college students in J city. The results was largely categorized into three themes as follows. Firstly, as sub-themes of meaning of stress, there were 'Spider web that clogs the head', 'Seemingly endless passage', 'Anxiety that keeps hands fidgeting', Secondly, factors of stress, there were 'Life does not depend on the class rank', Financial hardships,' Frustrated with getting a job', 'Difficulty in time management', Thirdly, how to cope with stress, there were 'A friend you can freely talk to and laugh with', 'Grab some food and release some stress', 'Get away from daily life', Positive thinking relaxes body and spirit'. Based 0n the analyzed results, we can understand the causes and coping strategies of college students in depth, suggested the practical suggestions and limitation of college society about stress and the educational implication of utilizing photovoice.

  • MTP(Multi-graded Tutoring Project) is a designed curriculum needed to perform a high quality project to improve teamwork and major skills for college student of science and engineering. Each student can experience teaching activities as a tutor and learning activities as a tutee in the MTP for three years. Through this curriculum, students are expected to obtain the capabilities to set up and search the goal of given projects, to make human network among multi-graded students and professionals which could be critical for finding careers, and to perform graduation projects in a more systematic and co-operated way, resulting in highly-qualified outputs. In this paper, MTP e-portfolio evaluation model is suggested. This model evaluates the individual-level performance operating in MTP curriculum. The evaluation model is described with three dimensional structure composed of participator, changes in learning, and learning processes. The resultant model could be utilized as tools for evaluating the curriculum set up for the multi-graded project-based teaching environment.

Oral Presentations as an Alternative Approach to Enhance L2 Learning and Communication Skills (L2 학습과 의사소통 능력 향상을 위한 대안적 접근으로서의 구두 발표)

  • The current study aimed to examine university students' perceptions of the positive effects of L2 oral presentations in terms of communication skills and future employment. The participants were 13 undergraduate students enrolled in L2 oral presentation classes at the beginner or intermediate level. This study followed a qualitative research approach using in-depth and semi-structured interviews as the primary method. The findings revealed that students largely exhibited the benefits of oral presentations in three ways: by enhancing L2 proficiency, building confidence in public speaking, and gaining competitive advantages in their future careers. As a challenge for L2 learners, oral presentations were considered fundamental to develop effective communication skills in academic and professional contexts.

  • College students show keen interest in advertising contest, and some contests link with class so that students participate the contest as a class assignment. But the interest is not just limited to students but to businesses. Until now five studies was made on this subject, and major findings of those dissertations are given to activating contest participation, corporate ethics and industrial-educational cooperation. It seems not enough to explain the over-heated phenomenon with the results, so that more research should be made on advertising contest. Required studies with this subject are analyzing the effectiveness relating between investment and result, theoretical establishment by empirical approach, comparative study depending on the style of contest, casual relationship between personal character and image of corporate hosting contest and so on.

The Impact of TANF on Income and Poverty : analyses by sub-component (미국 TANF정책이 소득 및 빈곤에 미친 영향: 하부조항별 분석)

  • The National Basic Livelihood Security(NBLS) System implemented from October 2000 has expanded cash assistance to cover the poor who are able to work in our country. Although the cash assistance for them has positive aspects of providing basic livelihood security for all people, but many scholars have also pointed out its negative aspects such as a decrease in labor supply among the poor. In order to provide policy implications for the cash assistance program of our country as well as the US, this paper examines the impact of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families(TANF) on poverty among single mothers and their families using data from March Current Population Survey of $1991{\sim}2002$. TANF imposes strong work requirements and time limits to recipients as conditions for cash assistance, which are major sub-components of TANF. Therefore, this paper analyzes TANF by looking at work requirements and time limits separately, not by looking at TANF as a single policy. The research findings show that work requirements significantly decreased income and increased poverty among single mothers. Although time limits show income increasing effects and poverty decreasing effects, it seems further studies on time limits are needed at this point. The research findings of this paper provide important lessons for welfare to work cash assistance of our country as well as the US.

  • This study contributes to understanding women's labor market behavior by focusing on a particular set of labor force transitions - labor force withdrawal and entry during the period surrounding the first birth of a child. In particular, this study provides a dynamic analyses, using longitudinal data and event history analysis, to conceptualize labor force behaviors in a straightforward way. The main research question addresses which factors increase or decrease the hazard rates of leaving and entering the labor market. This study used piecewise Gompertz model, following the guide of the non-parametric analysis on the hazard rates, which allowed relatively detailed description on the distribution of timing of leave and entry to the labor market as parameters of interest. The results show that preferences and structural variables, as well as economic considerations, are very important factors to explain the labor market behavior of women in the period surrounding childbirth.
