Design of Drop Island to Accommodate the Turning Trajectory of Semi-Trailer (세미트레일러의 회전궤적을 고려한 물방울교통섬의 설치 방안 연구)

  • Triangle-shaped island was been used for the exclusive separation between the right-turn and the through flow. However, in case that existing Triangle-Shaped Island is built at the intersection of narrow road. there are more possibilities of traffic collision trespassing into the opposite lane. Accordingly, separation of the opposite lane is required so as to prevent the intrusion of the large-sized (a heavy) vehicle into the opposite lane turning at the intersection. This study showed the comparison between intersection composed of existing Triangle-Shaped Island and the intersection with Drop Island is added. First of all, in the safety aspect, a method to decide location and shape of Drop Island considering turning trajectory of the large-sized (the heavy vehicle) is addressed. The guideline on the placement of drop island install location and method to decide form the consider heavy truck's turn trajectory in safety side. As a conclusion. we analyzed that drop island is relatively superior to existing Triangle-Shaped Island in terms of driver, ease of driving, driving pleasantness, pedestrian, widening and economic performance aspect.

Enhancement in Coexistence Capability via Virtual Channel Management for IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPANs (가상 채널 관리를 통한 IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN의 공존 능력 향상 기법)

  • The number of channels specified in IEEE 802.15.4 Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks(LRWPANs) is too few to operate many applications of WPANs in the same area. To overcome this limit, we introduce Virtual Channel, a novel concept to increase the number of available channels when various WPAN applications coexist. Basically, a virtual channel is a newly-created channel via superframe scheduling within the inactive period of a logical channel preoccupied by other WPANs. To maximize the coexistence capability of WPANs using virtual channels, we propose Least Collision superframe scheduler(LC-scheduler), its less complex heuristics both for a given single channel, and Virtual Channel Selector(VCS) to efficiently manage multiple available logical channels. In addition, a simple but practical synchronization method is developed to compensate different time drifts among coexisting WPANs. The simulation results demonstrate that a remarkable improvement on the coexistence capability of the 802.15.4 can be achieved through the proposed schemes.

A Relay Node Selection Method of Vehicle Safety Messages for Protecting Traffic Accidents (교통사고 예방을 위한 차량안전메시지 중계노드 선택방법)

  • Using the wireless communication among unacquainted vehicles, an intelligent vehicle safety system can be constructed to exchange vehicle safety-related information, such as urgency stop, traffic accident and road obstacles. In the majority of vehicle safety applications, vehicle safety messages are propagated in the form of broadcast. However, this approach causes some effectiveness and performance problems with massive radio collision, multi-hop propagation. This paper presents a priority based relay node selection method for propagating vehicle safety messages of traffic accident protection system. With this method, vehicle safety messages are relayed by a node that locates in proper distance out of the nodes that are included in the radio transmission range. By decreasing the number of duplicated messages, the packet overhead is lessened while the communication performance is raised. The proposed method was proven to be better than other schemes through network simulations.

  • A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object from above, with a perspective as though the observer were a bird, often used in the making of blueprints, floor plans and maps. It can be used under severe weather conditions when visibility is poor. Under low visibility environments, drivers can communicate each other using V2V communication to get each vehicle's status to prevent collision and other accidents. Ubiquitous transportation sensor networks(u-TSN) and its application are emerging rapidly as an exciting new paradigm to provide reliable and comfortable transportatione services. The ever-growing u-TSN and its application will provide an intelligent and ubiquitous communication and network technology for traffic safety area.

Automatic Virtual Camera Control Using Motion Area (모션 면적을 이용한 버추얼 카메라의 자동 제어 기법)

  • We propose a method to determine camera parameters for character motion, which confiders the motion by itself. The basic idea is to approximately compute the area swept by the motion of the character's links that are orthogonally projected onto the image plane, which we call "Motion Area". Using the motion area, we can determine good fixed camera parameters and camera paths for a given character motion in the off-line or real-time camera control. In our experimental results, we demonstrate that our camera path generation algorithms can compute a smooth moving camera path while the camera effectively displays the dynamic features of character motion. Our methods can be easily used in combination with the method for generating occlusion-free camera paths. We expect that our methods can also be utilized by the general camera planning method as one of heuristics for measuring the visual quality of the scenes that include dynamically moving characters.

  • In Vehicular Ad-hoc Network(VANET) which constructs networks without fixed infrastructure among vehicles, network topology is frequently changed due to high mobility. In case of urban model, communication disconnections caused by interruptions of communication propagation such as buildings and constructions could be often occurred. Therefore, in VANET environment a routing protocol to complement its characteristics is needed. This paper suggests an algorithm to improve the transmission performance at intersections by approaching of the distance-based broadcasting which utilizes the information of vehicle's position. By using relative velocity among vehicles, it makes the stability of route decision improved and reduces packet collisions through graded priorities in the intersection, and simultaneously improves the performance of data rate. It can be seen that the performance compared with previous algorithm is significantly improved when using the suggested algorithm in the urban traffic environment.

An LV-CAST algorithm for emergency message dissemination in vehicular networks (차량 망에서 긴급 메시지 전파를 위한 LV-CAST 알고리즘)

  • Several multi-hop applications developed for vehicular ad hoc networks use broadcast as a means to either discover nearby neighbors or disseminate useful traffic information to othet vehicles located within a certain geographical area. However, the conventional broadcast mechanism may lead to the so-called broadcast storm problem, a scenario in which there is a high level of contention and collision at the link layer due to an excessive number of broadcast packets. To solve broadcast storm problem, we propose an RPB-MACn-based LV-CAST that is a vehicular broadcast algorithm for disseminating safety-related emergency message. The proposed LV-CAST identifies the last node within transmission range by computing the distance extending on 1 hop from the sending node of an emergency message to the next node of receiving node of the emergency message, and the last node only re-broadcasts the emergency message. The performance of LV-CAST is evaluated through simulation and compared with other message dissemination algorithms.

  • This paper presents the design concepts of a protector for a launch-reconnaissance robot that is to be deployed for data-collection in hazardous regions. The protector protects the reconnaissance robot inside from shock induced during the process of launch, flight, and landing. Since the outer shells of the protector are automatically opened wide by the unlocking mechanism during the landing stage, the reconnaissance robot can easily exit the protector and move around to carry out its mission. We carefully simulated a finite-element model of the protector with the robot and compared the results with the actual dynamic behavior of the system. Shock- response tests using a droptable showed that the proposed protector filled with silicon material successfully attenuated external shock.

Development of the Maintenance Process Based on Graphic Simulation for the Parts of the Equipment at the outside of the MSM′s Workspace in a Hot Cell (그래픽 전산모사를 이용한 핫셀 사각지역 내 장치부품 유지보수공정 개발)

  • In this study, the maintenance process by the servo manipulator has been developed for the parts of the equipment, which we unable to reach out by the Master-Slave Manipulator(MSM) in a hot cell. To do this, a virtual mock-up is implemented using the iか prototyping technology. Using this mock-up, the workspace of the manipulators in the hot cell and the operator's view through the wall-mounted lead glass have been analyzed. In addition, the path planning of the servo manipulator using the collision detection function of the virtual mock-up has been established. From these, the maintenance process for the parts of the equipment, which are located at the outside of the MSM's workspace using the servo manipulator has been proposed and verified through the graphic simulation. It is revealed that the proposed remote maintenance process of the equipment can effectively be used in the real hot cell operation. It is also believed that the implemented virtual mock-up of the hot cell can effectively be applied in analyzing the various hot cell operation and enhancing the reliability and safety in a hot cell remote handling for the spent fuel management.

Residual Longitudinal Strengths of Asymmetrically Damaged Ships (비대칭 손상 선박의 잔류 종강도 평가)

  • This paper presents estimation of deterministic damage extents and locations due to collision and grounding which are defined by ABS guideline and DNV ship rules. It is noted that the overall extents of damages from DNV are larger than those from ABS. Nonlinear FEAs are carried out to predict residual longitudinal strength of hull girder with asymmetric severe damages. The accuracy of the applied FEA procedure is proved by comparing FEA result with test result of a 1/3-scaled frigate. The investigated vessels are a VLCC and a large-sized bulker for which evenly distributed heeling angles from $0^{\circ}$(sagging) to $180^{\circ}$(hogging) by $30^{\circ}$ due to damage-induced flooding are taken into account. The reduction ratios of the ultimate residual strength for the damaged cases to those for the intact sagging case are shown. It is proved that the grounding damage case under DNV assumption reveals most critical the residual strength. The design formulas are presented to assure minimum residual ultimate moment after damage.
