  • Meta-analysis provides a way of integrating several independent studies of interest. Since small studies with statistically significant results are more likely to be published, publication bias, which is a special case of selection bias, often occurs in meta analysis. Conditional likelihood and weighted estimating equation have been proposed to deal with publication bias, but they require to specify a correct selection probability model. In contrast, the pairwise pseudolikelihood approach can correct publication bias without fully specifying the correct selection probability model, but its performance in meta-analysis was not investigated. In this paper, we perform a numerical study about whether the pairwise pseudolikelihood approach is effective for solving publication bias arising from typical meta-analysis settings.

  • The present study investigated the effect of music intervention on the anxiety of children and adolescents using meta-analysis, and the specific research purposes were as follows. The targets of the present study were previous studies analyzed the effect of music intervention on anxiety collected the final 28 theses for academic degrees and five scholarly journal articles were used in the analysis. To examine the publication bias of the studies used in the analysis, funnel plot and fail-safe N were verified, and found the publication bias was not significant enough to influence the present study. The homogeneity test showed that the effect size was heterogeneous, and accordingly, a random effect model analysis was carried out and the overall effect size was found to be -1.034. The analysis on the difference in the effect showed that the effect size varied according to subject classification and intervention location for categorical variables and size for continuous variables.

  • Although research using meta-analysis is increasing in the field of rehabilitation science, not all meta-analytical papers are of the same quality. In particular, although meta-analysis is a research method with the highest level of evidence, it may be possible to derive distorted conclusions or alternatives by simply integrating representative values without considering heterogeneity among individual studies. This study analyzed the current status of meta-analysis papers on the subject of language arbitration published in Korea from January 2010 to June 2019, and used A Measurement Tool to Assess the Methodological Quality of Systematic Review (AMSTAR). As a result of evaluating the methodological quality of the final five papers, the average of 7.4 points out of 11 points was found above average. In order to raise the qualitative level of Meta-analysis in speech-language pathology in the future, it is necessary to include verification of publication bias and specification of conflicts of interest.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a hospice intervention program and present basic study data using a method of Meta analysis. Fifteen theses from 2002 to 2017 were collected from the on-line database at Korean Education and Research Information Service and other journals related hospice. Main keywords were 'hospice' and intervention'. The selected 15 theses were analyzed with publication bias, outcome of effect size, non-overlap percentage(U3), 95% confidence intervals and homogeneity. The result of the study is summarized as follows; Publication bias was stable and the effect size of hospice program was significant at. 99. The effective and significant regulation effects were publication years with 2003 to 2007(ES=1.24), publication types with journals(ES=1.33), majors with nursing sciences(ES=1.02), ages with 29 to 30(ES=1.09), later session(ES=1.06) and aroma(ES=1.12). Accordingly, this thesis has its meaning in that it used a Meta-analysis to analyze domestic theses of hospice intervention programs for the first time in Korea. This thesis will prodide specific guidance to researchers trying to develop and utilize hospice intervention programs resulting in helpful usages in professional hospice institutions with implementations of programs.

  • Purpose: The aims of this study is to analysis the effects of obesity management programs for children and to measure the differences in the effects by type and dependent variables in order to analyze the structures of the programs. Methods: Sixty-one peer-reviewed journals including child obesity and intervention studies published between 2000 and 2010 were included for meta-analysis. Effect size and statistics of homogeneity were by STAT 10.0. Results: A total of 61 studies were used in the analysis, and the effect size of the independent studies was determined to be -0.23 (95% CI, -0.32 ~ -0.15). Serum Leptin and Insulin were the big effect size among the studies that used dependent variables. The theses used in the research did not display publishing bias. Conclusion: Obesity management programs that have been confirmed to be effective need to be developed into regional protocols. A continuous control of obese children and research for effective intervention program are in need.

  • This study analyzed the physiological effects of silkworms and silkworm pupae on the reduction of serum lipid levels. Research data specific to silkworms and their pupae published over the last 10 years were collected and analyzed. A large effect size of 0.852 was observed in the overall results and the range of 95% confidence intervals was 0.662 to 0.999. The Q value was 23.264, the Higgin's I2 value was 92.217, indicating that each study was heterogeneous. There was no publication bias, as the corrected observed number of statistically significant effect sizes and the expected number of statistically significant effect sizes were both 0.654. The silkworm study showed a large effect size with respect to blood sugar and blood lipid reduction at 0.801 and 0.948, respectively, and LDL-cholesterol reduction at 1.371, showing a very large effect size. Aspartate transaminase / glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (AST/GOT) was 0.768, alanine transaminase /glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (ALT/GPT) was 0.788, which was a medium effect size. The experiment period had a very large effect size of 1.170 for five to eight weeks and 1.020 for an intake of 1 to 50 mg/kg. The silkworm pupae had a large effect size of 0.991 and 0.951, respectively on blood lipids and total cholesterol reduction. The experimental period showed a very large effect size at 1.103 for more than nine weeks, and the intake showed a large effect size at 0.855 for 5001 mg/kg.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the impact of education and counselling by nurses on anxiety, uncertainty, and pain in patients with benign uterine tumors. Electronic databases, including PubMed, OVID, CINAHL, Google Scholar, and Korean databases and were searched during January 2020. A total of 401 studies were identified of which 13 were suitable for meta-analysis. Cochrane's risk of bias tool and the R version 3.5.2 (Meta-analysis with R) program were used for analysis. The authors performed a meta-analysis of the 13 trials that met eligibility criteria. The findings in this study indicate that the effect size of nursing education for anxiety was Hedges' g=-0.89 (95% CI:-1.39 to -0.47), as indicated by a "large effect size" and the effect size of pain was Hedges' g=-0.49 (95% CI:-0.95 to -0.02) as indicated by a "moderate effect size". The effect size of uncertainty was Hedges' g=-1.38 (95% CI:-3.98 to 1.23), and it was not statistically significant. In the meta-subgroup analyses by approach intervention type, cognitive-behavioral programs, demonstration intervention, and relaxation therapy had a significant effect. The risk of publication bias was low. It may therefore be concluded that pre-operative education by nurses for patients with benign uterine tumors would affect their levels of anxiety, uncertainty, and pain.
