  • All the policies and plans need to be carried out at the proper times in order that they would work properly for what they are made for. It is will known that statistics are one of the most useful tools in deciding the proper times for the policies. In this paper we show how to use statistics in evaluating the policies already carried with respect to the time when they were executed in dealing with the population policy we had in 1983 when the total fertility rate hit the population replacement level 2.1. Two methods have been tried to show that the policy carried in 1983 missed the proper changing time. The one is to make forecasting only with the data possible before 1982 and show how close they can be to the real situation of today. The other is to show what would happen if the policies aiming to suppress population growth had been changed or abandoned. Both results from two methods give some quantified information about the population policy of 1983. Especially the prediction tells that we could have forecasted the problem of low fertility of this century in 1983.

Therefore in order to develop the model, that is adequate to estimate demand for the pediatric dentists, a studies on the supply and demand planing of other health manpower were reviewed. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The health demand method was appropriate for demand estimation of the pediatric dentists. 2. There was independent variables needed for demand estimation model: prevalence, utilization rate, referral rate, fertility rate, productivity, annual working days, and so on. 3. Since statistical data for application of these variables was insufficient as result of searching, questionnaire researching and discussion of specialist may be necessary. 4. Each independent variables should be inducted into an equation by using a adequate regression model and then estimated.

  • The purpose of this paper is to classify OECD countries in regard to levels of supporting fathers' care work. Several meaningful conclusions were reached. First, examining the level of supporting fathers' care work and the strength of the traditional bread-winner model, OECD countries can be classified into 5 different clusters. The result is different from the mainstream typology of welfare states and suggests the new typology of welfare states. Second, the level of supporting fathers' care work and the strength of the traditional bread-winner model were found to be related to total fertility rates and women's labor market participation rates. Third, in regard to the level of supporting fathers' care work, Korea was the lowest among OECD countries. This result points to one of the important reasons to the low level of total fertility rat, and low rate of women's labor market participation in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effective policy on secondary childbirth encouragement of married women. The design for this study is a cross-sectional descriptive study. Samples were collected from 322 women who have one child younger than 6 years old. The instruments for this study was a questionnaire consisted of items about policy on childbirth encouragement. The data were analyzed by chi-square test, Mann-whitney's U test, and logistic regression with SPSS 17.0 program. The results showed that the employed women's intention of having a second child was affected by the age, working day per week, and policy on childbirth. But, in case of unemployed women, both of demographic and policy variables were not statistically significant. These findings suggest that different policy on support of birth, work-family life balance, and various tax benefits be developed to satisfy the needs of the employed women and the unemployed women.

  • There is an increasing trend of medical devices and products moving out of hospitals and clinics into community and residual homes for use by the general public due to both the technological developments and demographic changes resulted from the increased life expectancy and decreased birth rate. In Korea, however, the definition of "home medical device" is rather ambiguous and we thus compared the definition of the term used in the global market with that in Korea. FDA definition of "home medical device" includes the devices intended for use in both professional healthcare facilities and home. The KFDA, does not provide the definition for the "home medical device"and the definition has only been inferred from the results of consumer surveys. With a paradigm shift in advent of u-healthcare era, the definition of "home medical device" in Korea should include the medical devices that could be used both at hospitals and at home.

  • The purpose of the study is to come up with counter plans to the spatial change caused by an aging society. To achieve the purpose of this study, research methods are conducted in the literature survey and the census data are compared. This study focuses on an aging society, the current status of space and related problems, based on political economic spatial concepts, and then presents five countermeasures as follows. First, the planning considering the aging populations. Second, increase in total fertility rate and increase population absorption. Third, increased economic vitality of the elderly due to increased participation in the production of senior citizens. Forth, establishment and implementation of regional development plan for the elderly. Fifth, needs to transform the spatial policies of the aged to prepare a large gap in space. The result of this paper proposes the need to change the living space policies and planning to avoid mismatching between them, reducing the aging speed simultaneously. The study is expected to contribute to the establishment of a space plan for areas where the aging population is rapidly increasing.

  • This study analyzes marriage and fertility rates in Korea and makes recommendations for family policy. Based on the 'The Report of Marriage & Divorce Statistics in 2005' and data from the Korea Statistical Information System (KOSIS) of the National Statistics Organization, the trends, reasons for marriage rates changes, and future expectations were critically reviewed. In addition, the relationship between marriage and fertility rates was analyzed. The principle characteristics of marriage rates are as follows: 1) the M-shape of the longitudinal crude marriage rates; 2) the increased age of individuals entering their the first marriage; 3) the increase in remarriage rates; 4) the changes in the patterns of remarriage; 5) the increased in the age at which individuals remarry and; 6) the increase in marriage to non-Koreans. The marriage and fertility rates changes are a permanent normative shift because of 1) later marriage because of women's increased education and labor force participation 2) rational choices about birth control 3) reduced population because of the aging of baby boomers 4) structural changes in the marriage market and 5) egalitarian changes in women's attitudes toward marriage and family. The recommendations for future family policy were as follows: 1) the need for a realistic, long-term family policy because the current marriage patterns will continue; 2) the need to develop new statistics such as fertility rates that are based on marriage cohort or birth cohort because family behavior is a mixture of personal, social and political responses; 3) the need for impact analysis of current family policy about increasing fertility rates; 4) the need for a new family perspective that encompasses diverse marriage and family patterns; 5) the need to focus on men's role in families because of women's changing roles and family interaction patterns and; 6) the need for preventive family policies such as family life education.

  • As the number os working-class households has increased and As the number of working-class households has increased and the birth rate has decreased, more than a third of all elementary school students are left alone. While elementary schools across the nation have implemented a policy of after-school care, even that has reduced the number of classrooms in the government. As such, parents cannot avoid leaving their children alone at home and wonder about their day. For these parents and older elementary school students, they came up with a service that allows them to plan and implement their own work. The service enables children to develop self-regulating learning skills and allows them to receive feedback through the app on what plans and practices a child left alone at home is planning.
