  • The purpose of this study is to examine the pattern and characteristics of population movement in Kangwon province. The data for this study were drawn from in- out- migration data established by Korea National Statistical Office(KNSO) between 2000 and 2007. Sample survey and depth interview were also used. The results showed that the population of all Si and Gun except Choonchun and Wonju declined. This decline of population in Kangwon province persisted during the last decades. The decline started with the industrialization in the 1960s and 1980s. The decline of population in Kangwon province continued in the 1990s and 2000s with the open agriculture policy rooted in UR and FTA. All Si and Gun can be classified into five groups in terms of population movement in Kangwon province between 2000 and 2007. The first group(Group B) is where in-migration from other Si and Gun and out-migration to Seoul and Kyunggi continues in the period. Choonchun, Wonju, and Sokcho belong to this category. The second group(Group C) is where out-migrarion to Seoul and Kyunggi is larger the in-migration. It includes Cholwon, Taebaek, Donghae, and Samchok. The third group(Group D) is where out-migration to Group B is larger than that of other places. Hwachun, Pyungchang, Hoegsung, Gosung, and Hongchun are included in this group. The fourth group(Group E) is where out-migration to both Group B and Seoul & Kyunggi is large. Youngwol, Gangnung, and Chungsun belong to this category. The fifth group(Group F) is where few population movement occurs. It includes Yangyang, Yanggu, and Injae. The findings also shows that the extent of population movement to Choonchun and Wonju is larger than that of Seoul and Kyunggi in recent period. This finding indicates that the effect of base city like Choonchun and Wonju has become in recent years.

  • Snow fungus (Tremella fuciformis) with functional contents has satisfactory effects on various diseases, including atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, healthy skin, cancer, diabetes, and anti-inflammation. In this study, the extraction yield and functional contents (ergothioneine and 𝛽-glucan) of white jelly fungus were compared based on the extraction conditions using response surface methodology. Results revealed the extraction conditions for optimization of the dependent variables to be 60℃ and 4.33 h, when 16.6 mg/mL of sample concentration was used. Under these conditions, the extraction yield was 24.9%, including ergothioneine (66.8 ㎍/g) and 𝛽-glucan (34.9 g/100 g). These results can be useful in understanding the functional ingredients and mass extraction process in mushroom.

  • This study was conducted to determine the regional adaptability of Fagopyrum tataricum in Korea. Suwon, Chunchon, Kangneung, Yonchon and Taean at different experiment sites had soil pH of 6.52, 5.65, 5.7, 5.89 and 5.82, respectively, being at more unfavorable conditions than a recommended soil condition for yam cultivation with pH 5.8~6.7. The amounts of organic matter in Suwon, Chunchon, Taean, and Yonchon were 1.96%, 4.51%, 3.76%, 1.89% and 1.12%, respectively, being at more favorable conditions than a recommended organic matter in soil for yam cultivation with 2.0~3.0%. As the results from cultivating of large plantings in different regions, Suwon showed grain weight in plant of 7.8g. In seed extract analysis, rutin contents were 44.9mg/100g in F. esculentum and 1475.5mg/100g in F. tataricum., respectively.

  • The remains of the Bronze Age in Chuncheon region are mostly distributed on the floodplain. The floodplain in this region is made up mainly of natural levee that is high in height and is not flooded with water. The natural levee has very advantageous conditions in agriculture compared with other places. There is a high possibility that people in Chuncheon region during the Bronze Age inhabited on the floodplain and engaged in agriculture. Considering the geomorphic features and soil of natural levee, it is believed that the agriculture centered on dry-field farming was done in this region at that time.

  • Chuncheon city is constructing a world-wide famous theme park, Chuncheon Legoland. In this study, analysis of the city traffic infrastructure for Chuncheon Legoland has been performed. We first reviewed the current city traffic condition with regard to the park. We then defined potential customers and arrivals, streets, and routing street sequences to the park. Based on a measure, occupation ratio, reflecting traffic condition we designed experiments for analysis and obtained results from simulation. Our results indicate that severe traffic delay is expected during the peak season and is significant especially in streets 9,11,16. We performed additional experiments with increasing the number of lanes of them and obtained improved results.

  • The aim of this paper is to explore opportunities and limitations of the top-down approach to build institutional performance by analyzing the process of local government-led cluster's initiatives. In doing so, this paper investigates processes of the design and implementation of cluster's policy as well as firms' innovative capacities. As the result, it reveals the fallacy of the local government's policy in planning industrial clusters, the inconsistence of cluster initiatives due to changes of regional vision providers, weakness of innovative performance of IT firms supported by the local government in the region. It should be concluded that Chun-cheon City did not succeed in accumulating institutional capabilities which were crucial to implement a cluster initiative.

  • Transient Ischemic Attack(TIA) is an important risk factor of stroke but often underestimated by clinicians. In this case, we administered oriental-western cooperative therapy to a 72 years old female TIA patient with severe MCA stenosis. After treatment, all symptoms were disappeared and has not reappeared until 1 year follow-up.

  • To study ecological characteristics of Eleocharis kuroguwai occuring in Korea its propagules were collected from 6 locations from the northern part to the southern part of Korea (Chuncheon, Suweon, Iri, Jeonju, Gwangiu and Milyang) in 1981, cultured and replanted 3 times (May 20, June 5, June 20) in 1982. They flowered from August 5 to August 27 when they were planted on May 20, and from August 20 to August 27 when they were planted on Tune 20. Plant height, number of tillers and top fresh weight/$m^2$ were 50-90cm, 500-875, and 175-750g, respectively when they were planted on May 20, and 40-70cm, 250-625, 325-625g, respectively when they were planted on June 20. Number of tubers per plant were 0.98-1.98 when they were planted on May 20, and 1.81-2.87 when they were planted on June 20. Eleocharis kuroguwai from Chuncheon or Suweon was more open in plant type, shorter in plant height, narrower in diameter of pedicel and shorter in inflorescence than those from Iri, Jeonju or Gwangju. Each of the local collections may be regarded as different ecotype, based on the above differences in morphology and responses in growth and flowering to the planting dates. The results appear to imply that Eleocharis kuroguwai weeds occurring in various locations of Korea are different one another in competitive avility with rice crop.

  • A three-dimensional hydrodynamic model was applied to the Lake Euiam. The lake has three inflows, of which Gongji Stream has the smallest flow rate and poorest water. The dam-storage volume, watershed area, lake shape and discharge type of the Chuncheon Dam and the Soyang Dam are different. Therefore, it is difficult to analyze the water plume and mixing pattern due to the difference of the two dams regarding the amount of outflow and water temperature. In this study, we analyzed the effects of different characteristics on temperature and conductivity using the model appropriate for the Lake Euiam. We selected an integrated system supporting 3-D time varying modeling (GEMSS) to represent large temporal and spatial variations in hydrodynamics and transport of the Lake Euiam. The model represents the water temperature and hydrodynamics in the lake reasonably well. We examined residence time and spreading patterns of the incoming flows in the lake based on the results of the validated model. The results of the water temperature and conductivity distribution indicated that characteristics of upstream dams greatly influence Lake Euiam. In this study, the three-dimensional time variable water quality model successfully simulated the temporal and spatial variations of the hydrodynamics in the Lake Euiam. The model may be used for efficient water quality management.
