  • In this paper, the analysis results of synthetic resonance characteristics are described for the electrohydraulic thrust vector control actuation system. The synthetic resonance is induced by integration of position servo actuation system on the flexible launch vehicle mounting structure. The new resonance mode is synthesized due to composition of hydraulic resonance for electrohydraulic position servo system with inertia load condition and structural resonance for flexible mounting structure. This synthetic resonance can make stability of control system worse by feedback and amplification of control system. The exact nonlinear analysis model of this phenomenon is developed to predict and design a control algorithm for improvement characteristics. The DPF (Dynamic Pressure Feedback) control algorithm has been designed and has excellent resonance suppression capability.

  • This paper is to introduce Hanwha Aerospace R&D Center's development status of TVC(Thrust Vector Control) system and control valves for Korean space launch vehicles. With the successful development of KSR-III TVC system, Hanwha have developed TVC system and RCS control valves for KSLV-I. Also, in the advance research area of KSLV-II, Hanwha have participated in LOx and fuel flow control valves and LOx shut-off valve development in the engine supply system. Based on the accumulated experiences and technologies in the aerospace key components and system development, Hanwha will make an important contribution to KSLV-II development in the future.

  • In this research, design results of computer hardware which control solid motor movable nozzle thrust vector control(TVC) actuator for Korea Space Launch Vehicle I(KSLV-I) are described. TVC computer hardware is the equipment which has jobs for receiving control commands from Navigation Guidance Unit(NGU) and then actuating TVC actuator. Also, it has ability to communicate with other on board or ground equipments. Computer hardware has a digital signal processor as the main processor which is capable of high speed calculating ability of control algorithm, so it can have more stability, reliability and flexibility than the previous analog controller of KSR-III. Target board was designed for on board program development and then first prototype hardware was developed. Top level system design criteria, hardware configurations and ground support equipment of TVC computer system are described.

  • The KSR-III rocket is a liquid propellant sounding rocket and thrust vector control actuators and cold gas thrusters are used to control pitch and yaw, roll attitude respectively during thrusting phase. In this paper, the structure of designed attitude controller and gain scheduling, results of stability analysis for KSR-III rocket are presented. The attitude controller is implemented with flight software in the domestically developed INS and successfully performed its function in the flight test. The flight data are coincident with simulation results.

  • Atomization characteristics and spatial distribution of the spray emanating from an injector of liquid-propellant thruster are investigated by using dual-mode phase Doppler anemometry (DPDA). Spray characteristic parameters such as the mean velocity, Sauter mean diameter (SMD), and velocity fluctuation are measured at various locations along the spray axis as well as on the radial direction. Those data are quantified in radial profile and also used to scrutinize the correlation between diameter and turbulence intensity of spray droplets. For the better visual grasp, dynamic behavior of spray droplets along the spray stream is presented through the velocity vectors projected on the plane of geometric axis of nozzle orifice and radial coordinate.

  • Dual throat nozzle(DTN) is recently attracting much attention as a new concept of the thrust vectoring technique. This DTN is designed with two throats, an upstream minimum and a downstream minimum at the nozzle exit, with a cavity in between the upstream throat and exit. In the present study, a computational work has been carried out to analyze a fundamental performance of a dual throat nozzle(DTN) at various nozzle pressure ratios(NPR) and throat area ratios. Two-dimensional, axisymmetric, steady, compressible Navier-Stokes equations were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. NPR was varied in the range of NPR from 2.0 to 10.0, at different throat area ratios. The present computational results were validated with some experimental data available. Based upon the present results, the performance of DTN is discussed in terms of the discharge coefficient and thrust efficiency.

  • Structural analyses of a engine system is required in development stage for increasing structural reliability and reducing weight. Attitude of a launch vehicle during flight is controlled by combustion chamber rotation varying with TVC (thrust vector control) actuator displacements. In this study nonlinear static analysis is performed for a 75 tonf-class liquid rocket engine using before and after the TVC actuation.

  • In addition to propulsive force to a flying vehicle, a rocket propulsion system can provide moments ro rotatate the flying vehicle and thus provide control of the vehicle's attitude and flight path. By controlling the direction of the thrust vectors, it is possible to control a vehicle's pitch, yaw, and roll motions. In this paper, we will introduce general thrust vector control mechanisms.

  • A numerical solution procedure has been developed to analyze the flow field resulted from the injection of a transverse jet through the divergent flap of a 2DCD nozzle for thrust vector control. The formulation employs the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in conservation law form and a two equation $\kappa-\omega$ turbulence model. Detailed numerical results are presented in this paper for the 2DCD nozzle over a range of secondary to primary injection mass flow ratios and nozzle pressure ratios.

  • KSLV-I (Korea Space Launch Vehicle-I) upper stage KM (Kick Motor) is a solid propulsion system which consists of igniter, SAD (Safety Arming Device), composite case, and submerged nozzle capable of TVC (Thrust Vector Control) actuation. Each subsystem of KM fulfilled development requirements for achieving a flight mission successfully. We confirmed the successful development of KM from the $3^{rd}$ flight test results of NARO on January 30, 2013. This article deals with the requirements of KM and the results on configuration management, mass variation, thrust axis alignment, and major test results and so on.
