Reliability-Based Optimization using Sensitivity Analysis of Reliability Index (신뢰성 지수의 민감도 해석을 이용한 신뢰성에 기초한 최적설계)

  • An optimum design algorithm using efficient reanalysis is proposed for reliability-based optimization problems formulated as the minimization of initial cost and expected failure cost with reliability constraints. The reliability-based optimization is high cost to evaluate objective function and constraints needed reliability analysis. Therefore the sensitivity analysis of reliability index for approximated reanalysis is necessary. In this paper, three solution approaches are suggested and tested. The approaches include : (1) sensitivity analysis using finite difference; (2) sensitivity analysis using automatic differentiation (AD); and (3) sensitivity analysis with respect to intermediate variables using AD. Numerical example is optimized to show the reliability and effectiveness of the new algorithm.

  • Recently developed automotive components are of lightweight nature, providing automobiles with a high fuel efficiency and performance. In response to those trends of car developments, this study proposes a structural optimization method for the lower control ann. Lightweight design of lower control am can be achieved through two approaches: design and material technology. In this research, the former includes optimization technology, and the latter the technologies for selecting aluminum as a steel-substitute material. In this research, the design of experiments(DOE) built in ANSYS WORKBENCH are utilized to determine the optimum shape of a Lower Control Arm. And optimum design is compared first model and reduced design variable model that considered sensitivity using orthogonal array.

  • Vibrational characteristics of the vehicle structure are mainly influenced by the shape of the pillar cross section. In this paper a vehicle structural optimization technique has been developed to investigate a lightweight vehicle structure subject to constraints on natural frequencies in a simple beam-and-shell model. In this technique, the optimization procedures involve two stages. In the first stage, the section procedures involve tow stages. In the first stage, the section properties of beam elements of the vehicle structure has been optimized to have minimum weight while satisfying the constraints of natural frequencies. And, in the second stage, the shape of the cross section of the elements of the structure has been determined.

  • Design sensitivity analysis is proposed for the optimal shape design of three-dimensional magnetostatic problems. The direct differentiation method is introduced for design sensitivity analysis and the boundary element method with reduced magnetic scalar potential as the state variable is used to analyze the magnetic characteristics. In the direct differentiation method, the design sensitivity, defined as the total derivative of the objective function with respect to the design variables, is calculated based on the variation of the state variable with respect to the design variable. And the variation of the state variable is calculated by differetiating the both sides of the system matrix equation obtained by applying boundary element method. Through the numerical example with simple electromagnet, the usefulness is proved.

Development of a thermal-hydraulic analysis code for once-through steam generators using straight tubes for SMRs (일체형 원자로용 관류식 직관형 증기발생기 열수력 해석 코드 개발)

  • A thermal-hydraulic design and performance analysis computer code for a once-through steam generator using straight tubes is developed. To benchmark the developed physical models and computer code, an once-through steam generator developed by other designer is simulated and the calculated results are compared with the design data. Also, the same steam generator is analyzed with the best-estimate thermal-hydraulic system code, MARS, for the code-to-code validation. The overall characteristics of heat transfer area, pressure and temperature distributions calculated by the developed code show general agreements with the published design data as well as the analysis results of MARS. It is demonstrated that the developed code can be utilized for diverse purposes, such as, sensitivity analyses and optimum thermal design of a once-through steam generator.

Numerical Study of Low-pressure Subcooled Flow Boiling in Vertical Channels Using the Heat Partitioning Model (열분배모델을 이용한 수직유로에서의 저압 미포화비등 해석)

  • Most CFD codes, that mainly adopt the heat partitioning model as the wall boiling model, have shown low accuracies in predicting the two-phase flow parameters of subcooled boiling phenomena under low pressure conditions. In this study, a number of subcooled boiling experiments in vertical channels were analyzed using a thermal-hydraulic component code, CUPID. The prediction of the void fraction distribution using the CUPID code agreed well with experimental data at high-pressure conditions; whereas at low-pressure conditions, the predicted void fraction deviated considerably from measured ones. Sensitivity tests were performed on the submodels for major parameters in the heat partitioning model to find the optimized sets of empirical correlations suitable for low-pressure subcooled flow boiling. The effect of the K-factor on the void fraction distribution was also evaluated.

Essential Computational Tools for High-Fidelity Aerodynamic Simulation and Design (고 정밀 항공우주 유동해석 및 설계를 위한 공력계산 툴)

  • As the computing environment is rapidly improved, the interests of CFD are gradually focused on large-scale computation over complex geometry. Keeping pace with the trend, essential computational tools to obtain solutions of complex aerospace flow analysis and design problems are examined. An accurate and efficient flow analysis and design codes for large-scale aerospace problem are presented in this work. With regard to original numerical schemes for flow analysis, high-fidelity flux schemes such as RoeM, AUSMPW+ and higher order interpolation schemes such as MLP (Multi-dimensional Limiting Process) are presented. Concerning the grid representation method, a general-purpose basis code which can handle multi-block system and overset grid system simultaneously is constructed. In respect to design optimization, the importance of turbulent sensitivity is investigated. And design tools to predict highly turbulent flows and its sensitivity accurately by fully differentiating turbulent transport equations are presented. Especially, a new sensitivity analysis treatment and geometric representation method to resolve the basic flow characteristics are presented. Exploiting these tools, the capability of the proposed approach to handle complex aerospace simulation and design problems is tested by computing several flow analysis and design problems.

  • 하천에서는 최적 하도계획의 수립과 하천관리를 위하여 유량관측소가 설치 운영되고 있으며, 통상 자기기록계에 의해 수위를 계속적으로 기록하고 있다. 또한 하천의 흐름 해석시 부등류 및 부정류 해석을 통하여 수위를 계산하게 되는데 이때 조도계수는 매우 중요한 매개변수이다. 이러한 조도계수는 대상하도의 복합적 요소에 의하여 결정되어지며 특히 유량에 대한 가변성이 크다. 본 연구에서는 도시하천인 우이천 유역을 대상으로 과거 수위 및 유량관측 자료를 토대로 유속 및 경심을 산정한 후 Manning의 평균유속 공식에 의해 역산하여 조도계수를 산정하였다. 또한 고정조도계수모형과 멱함수형태의 역산조도 계수모형의 결과를 실측 홍수위와 비교 분석하였다. 실제로 관측 수위에 대한 검증결과 유량에 따른 조도계수의 가변적 특징을 확인할 수 있었으며, 역산 조도계수 방법에 의한 흐름해석의 결과가 관측홍수위에 민감하게 반응함을 확인하였다.

  • An improved formulation for multi-objective optimization was proposed. This formulation was applied to steel seismic loads. The multi-objective optimization problem was formulated with minimum structural weight, maximum strstability. The global criterion method was employed to find a rational solution closest to the ideal solution for the optimization problem using standard steel profile, To efficiently solve the optimization problem, the decomposition meth both system-level and element-level was used. In addition, various techniques including efficient reanalysis technique intermediate variables and sensitivity analysis using an automatic differentiation(AD) were incorporated. Moreover the reamong section properties fitted to the section profile used in order to link the system level and the element level. From numerical investigation, it could be stated that the proposed method will lead to the more rational design compared with one.

Shape Sensitivity Analysis of Air Bearing Sliders of Optical Disk Drives (광디스크 드라이브 공기베어링 슬라이더의 형상민감도 해석)

  • The optical storage device has recently experienced significant improvements, especially for the aspects of high capacity and fast transfer rate. However, it is the fact that the optical storage device has the lower access time for the randomly scattered data compared to the hard disk drives. It is, therefore, necessary to develop a new type of optical storage system. In this study, we investigate the air bearing characteristics for the optical disk drives which have the swing arm actuator similar to the hard disk drives. Considering the requirements of the optical disk drives, we parameterize the shape of the air bearing surface and investigate its sensitivity to the flying characteristics for further optimized design outputs.
