  • The waste foundry sand might be recycled in concrete, resulting in energy saving and environmental protection. An half Factorial Exprements were performed with the variables of W/C ratio, S/A, Sand/Waste foundry sand ratio and Slump as a preliminary study for optimum mix design of concrete. The results show that the W/C ratio is the most important factor to the concrete strength. The substitute of waste foundry sand up to 30% has little influence, saying that it can substitute the fine aggregate without damaging the concrete properties.

  • The Purpose of this study is to recycle the waste concrete, which is generated in huge quantities, from construction works. in order to achieve this goal, it is important to determine the compressive strength, workability, slump, and ultrasonic velocity of recycled aggregate concrete. Thus, several experiment parameters are considered, such as water-cement ratios, sand percentage, and fine aggregate composition ratios, in order to apply the recycled aggregate concrete to pre-cast artificial fishing reefs. From the results, it has been shown that the proper mix designs for reef concrete are W/C=45%, S/a=50%, SR50:SN50 in recycled sand and natural sand mix combination case, W/C=45%, S/a=50%, SC50:SN50 in crushed sand and natural sand mix combination case, W/C=45%, S/a=50%, SR50:SC50 in recycled sand and crushd sand mix combination case. Also, this study shows that the shape and surface roughness of fine aggregate particles have an effect on the strength, slump, ultrasonic velocity of tested concrete, and the compressive strength ratios of 7days' and 90days' curing ages of recycled aggregate concrete are about 70% and 110% of 28days' curing age.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest 100MPa class ultra high strength concrete mix design model applying neural network theory, in order to minimize an effort wasted by trials and errors method until now. Mix design model was applied to each of the 70 data using binary binder, ternary binder and quaternary binder. Then being repeatedly applied to back-propagation algorithm in neural network model, optimized connection weight was gained. The completed mix design model was proved, by analyzing and comparing to value predicted from mix design model and value measured from actual compressive strength test. According to the results of this study, more accurate value could be gained through the mix design model, if error rate decreases with the test condition and environment. Also if content of water and binder, slump flow, and air content of concrete apply to mix design model, more accurate and resonable mix design could be gained.

  • In this study, the inorganic insulating material was fabricated with quartzite, ordinary portland cement(OPC), lime and anhydrous gypsum. After characteristic analysis of slurry, the optimum mixing ratio was derived with different $CaO/SiO_2$ mole ratio. Based on derived mixing ratio, the inorganic insulating material was fabricated at different water content and hydrothermal synthesis conditions. Specific gravity was $0.26g/cm^3$, compressive strength was 0.4 MPa, and thermal conductivity was 0.064 W/mK. This properties were enhanced performance of conventional ALC (Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete). And it can replace organic insulation with harmless inorganic insulation through continues research and development.

  • The structure of Chosun-ilbo Boopyung factory was desined as exposed concrete. The self compacting concrete(non-vibrating concrete) must be applied to this case because the exposed concrete wall is very thin(200mm) and high(6m), Laboratory tests and semi mock-up test were performed for optimum mix design of the self compacting concrete. As a result, the optimum mixes were observed at the 3-component types(ope, fly-ash, slag powder) that Vp$\geq$0.175, Vw/Vp$\geq$0.95, W=170~175$kgf/m^3$ and B=500~540$kgf/m^3$ Based on this result. we make plan that the pilot productions of batcher plant, the full-scale mock up tests and site application.

  • In this study, the optimum mix proportions of rain garden structure concrete were decided and the mechanical properties were evaluated. Experimental parameters were blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled aggregates and natural jute fibers. The target compressive strength and chloride ion penetration were more than 24 MPa and less than 1000 coulombs, respectively. The response surface method was used for statistical optimization of experimental results. The optimal mixing ratios of the blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled coarse aggregate and jute fiber volume fraction were determined 59.98 %, 8.74 %, 12.12 % and 0.2 %, respectively. The compressive strength, flexural strength and chloride ion penetration test results of optimum mix ratio showed that the 24.56 MPa, 3.88 MPa and 999.08 columbs, respectively.

  • The aim of this study was to utilize ferronickel slag produced in the manufacture of stainless steel as a flowable backfill material for underground use using crushed fine powder. Experimental combinations were made using two components: Case A (sand) and Case B (soil). The optimal mixing ratio of Case A was sand (58.4%), ferronickel slag fine powder (21.6%), cement (1.8%), and water (18.2%). In the case of B, the optimal mixing ratio was determined to be soil (53.0%), ferronickel slag fine powder (20.0%), cement (1.7%), and water (25.3%). The uniaxial compressive strength of case A, which is a mixture of ordinary sand and ferronickel slag powder, was relatively larger than that of case B using soil. In addition, the strength of the specimen increased with increasing curing time. The uniaxial compressive strength tended to increase with increasing curing time. In addition, the unconfined compression strength of the fluid backfill material using common sand as the main material was relatively larger than that of the mixed material using soil as the main material. In case A, the uniaxial compressive strength ranged from 0.17-0.33 MPa, 0.21-0.39 MPa, and 0.19-0.40 MPa, respectively, at curing times of 7, 14, and 28 days. From the experimental results, it was concluded that the ratio of FNS powder and cement mixture was the most appropriate for Case A3. Case B, which used soil as the main material, showed a similar tendency to Case A. As a result of the dissolution test for evaluating the environmental harm of the FNS fine powder, there was no dissolution of substances harmful to the environment.

  • This study forms part of a research project that was carried out on the development and application of high-strength concrete for large underground spaces. In order to develop 50MPa high-strength concrete, eight optimal mixtures with different portions of fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag were selected. For assessments of shrinkage characteristics, free shrinkage tests with prismatic specimens and shrinkage crack tests were performed. The compressive strength was more than 30MPa at 7days, and stable design strength was acquired at 28days. High-strength concrete containing blast furnace slag shows large autogenous shrinkage, while large shrinkage deformations and cracks will occur when mixtures are replaced with large volumes of cementitious materials. Hence, for these high-strength concrete mixtures, the curing conditions of initial ages that affect the reaction of hydration and drying effects need to be checked.
