An Investigation on the Characteristics of Local Factors of Safety of Rock Failure and Their Dependency on the Stress Paths (암석파괴 국부안전율의 특성과 응력경로 의존성 고찰)

  • The factor of safety (FOS) is commonly used as an index to quantitatively state the degree of safety of various rock structures. Therefore it is important to understand the definition and characteristics of the adopted FOS because the calculated FOS may be different according to the definition of FOS even if it is estimated under the same stress condition. In this study, four local factors of safety based on maximum shear stress, maximum shear strength, stress invariants, and maximum principal stress were defined using the Mohr-Coulomb and Hoek-Brown failure criteria. Then, the variation characteristics of each FOS along five stress paths were investigated. It is shown that the local FOS based on the shear strength, which is widely used in the stability analysis of rock structures, results in a higher FOS value than those based on the maximum principal stress and the stress invariants. This result implies that the local FOS based on the maximum shear stress or the stress invariants is more necessary than the local FOS based on the shear strength when the conservative rock mechanics design is required. In addition, it is shown that the maximum principal stresses at failure may reveal a large difference depending on the stress path.

Structural Safety Analysis on Car Body at Overturn (전복시 차체에 대한 구조 안전 해석)

  • In this study, the changes of displacement and stress are investigated by structural analysis according to the thickness of car body in case of overturn. In case of 5 mm thickness, the maximum displacement of 7.5024 mm at its right ceiling and the maximum equivalent stress of 113.69 MPa at the left lower part are occurred on the elapsed time of 2 second. In case of 10 mm thickness, the maximum displacement of 1.2557 mm at its right ceiling and the maximum equivalent stress of 15.134 MPa at the left lower part are occurred on the elapsed time of 2 second. In case of 15 mm thickness, the maximum displacement of 0.426067 mm at its right ceiling and the maximum equivalent stress of 4.4842 MPa at the left lower part are occurred on the elapsed time of 2 second. As stress and displacement are uniformly distributed according to time in this case, the design of car body can be stabilized.

Fracture Behaviors of Alumina Tubes under Combined Tension/Torsion (알루미나 튜브의 인장/비틀림 조합하중하의 파괴거동)

  • Fracture of Al2O3 tubes for different loading path under combined tension/torsion was investigated. Macroscopic directions of crack propagation agreed well with the maximum principal stress criterion, independent of the loading path. However, fracture strength from the proportional loading test(τ/σ= constant) showed either strengthening or weakening compared to that from uniaxial tension, depending on the ratio τ/σ. The Weibull theory was capable to predict the strengthening of fracture strength in pure torsion, but not the weakening in the proportional loading condition. The strengthening or weakening of fracture strength in the proportional loading condition was explained by the effect of shear stresses in the plane of randomly oriented microdefects. Finally, a new empirical fracture criterion was proposed. This criterion is based on a mixed mode fracture criterion and experimental data for fracture of Al2O3 tubes under combined tension/torsion. The proposed fracture criterion agreed well with experimental data for both macroscopic directions of crack propagation and fracture strengths.

Analysis of Vibration and Stress for Bed Structure of Engine Dynamo Tester (엔진 다이나모 시험기 베드 구조물의 진동 및 구조응력해석)

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차엔진 및 트랜스미션 성능시험을 위한 다이나모 베드구조물을 분석하고 설계하였다. 해석상에 고려된 베드구조물은 Ⅰ형강 구조물, 보강된 박스구조물 그리고 블록구조물로 제작되었으며, 시험을 위한 엔진 및 트랜스미션은 베드상판에 장착된다. 엔진구동시 회전에 의한 진동이 발생된다. 공진을 피하기 위해 베드구조는 충분한 구조적 일체성을 가져야 한다. 본 연구에서는 베드 구조물의 응력, 변위 그리고 자유진동해석이 ANSYS Code를 이용한 유한요소해석이 수행되었다. Ⅰ형강 구조형 베드 구조물에서 최대 응력은 23.2MPa에서 90.3MPa까지 나타났으며, 최대 처짐은 0.25㎜에서 0.92㎜까지 나타났다. 박스 구조형 베드 구조물에서 최대 응력은 0.028MPa에서 0.259MPa까지 나타났으며, 최대 처짐은 0.031㎜에서 0.413㎜까지 나타났다. 그리고 박스구조형 베드 구조물에서 최대 처짐은 0.92MPa에서 2.15MPa까지 나타났으며, 최대 처짐은 1.1㎜에서 2.7㎜까지 나타났다. 모든 구조물이 응력과 처짐 값에서 매우 안정적인 범위 내에서 발생됨을 볼 수 있었다. 구조진동해석에서 Ⅰ형강 베드구조물의 고유진동수는 112.03㎐에서 141.66㎐까지의 범위에 발생되었다. 박스 구조형 베드구조물에서의 고유진동수는 396.93㎐에서 755.11㎐까지의 범위에서 발생되었다. 마지막으로 블록구조형 베드구조물에서는 266.51㎐에서 244.67㎐까지의 고유진동수를 찾을 수 있었다. 모든 구조물에서 베드구조물의 무게증가에 따른 기본진동수는 증가된다. 베드시스템의 지지기초시스템은 2자유도계 시스템으로 설계되었으며, 다양한 질량변화 및 스프링상수 변화에 따른 진동해석을 수행하였다. 질량비가 증가될수록 고유진동수는 크게 감소되며, 스프링상수가 증가될수록 고유진동수는 감소된다.

Analytical Model for Transfer Bond Performance of Prestressing Strands (PS 강선의 정착부착성능에 관한 해석 모델)

  • A new analytical model is proposed to better understand the transfer bond performance in a prestressed pretensioned concrete beam. The transfer length is divided into an elastic and a plas tic zones in this model. The bond stress is assumed t.o increase proportionally with the slip t.o the lirnit of maximum bond stress within the elastic zone and remains at a constant maximum value wthin the plastic zone. Four main stress patterns: bond stress, slip, steel stress, and concrete stress distributions within the transfer length are obtained precisely. The total transfer length al\ulcornerd free-end slip obtained here give a close comparison to the test results by Cousins et al.

Comparison of Two Methods for Analyzing Stress-Strain Behavior of Soil Beam (지반보의 응력-변형률 거동에 대한 해석법 비교)

  • To analyze the behavior of a soil beam under pore water pressure, the results of analytical solutions and finite element analysis (FEM) were compared quantitatively. In contrast to the results of the analytical solution, the horizontal stress obtained from the FEM did not show a symmetrical distribution. On the other hand, the horizontal stress became closer to symmetrical distribution as the number of elements of the soil beam were increased. A comparison of the horizontal stresses from the analytic solution with those obtained from Gaussian points of FEM showed that the magnitude of the tensile stress from the FEM using 3 elements was 6% of the maximum value of the analytical solution and the compressive stress from the FEM using the same elements was 37% of the maximum value of the analytical solution. The magnitude of the tensile stress from the FEM using 6 elements was 61% of the maximum value of the analytical solution and the magnitude of the compressive stress from the FEM using the elements was 83% of the maximum value of the analytical solution. Vertical stresses, which were obtained from the analytical solution, showed a continuous distribution with the depth of the soil beam, whereas the vertical stresses from the FEM showed a discrete distribution corresponding to each element. The results also showed that the average value of the vertical stresses of each element was close to that of the pore water pressure. A comparison of the vertical displacements computed at the near vertical center line of the soil beam from the FEM with those of the analytical solution showed that the magnitude of the vertical displacement from FEM using 3 elements was 35% of the value of the analytical solution and the magnitude of the vertical displacement from FEM using 6 elements was 57% of the value of the analytical solution.

A Study on the Measurement of Wall Shear Rate in the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (복부대동맥류 벽 전단변형률 측정에 관한 연구)

  • 동맥의 일부분이 팽창하는 동맥류는 파열로 인한 높은 사망률을 야기한다. 동맥류의 발생 및 파열에는 혈관벽의 구조적 약화와 혈류에 의한 응력이 중요한 역할을 하며, 혈류에 의해 혈관벽에 가해지는 전단응력은 간접적으로 혈관벽 구조를 변화시키고, 직접적으로 혈관벽에 응력을 가하므로 동맥류 파열에 영향을 미치는 중요한 혈류역학적 인자이다. 동맥류가 자주 발생하는 복부대동맥류 모델을 제작하여 정상류와 맥동류 유동에서 광색성 염료를 이용한 유동가시화 방법으로 벽 전단변형률을 측정하였다. 벽전단변형률은 동맥류 내부에서 감소하여 음의 값을 가지며, 동맥류 최대확장부 후부에서 다시 증가하여 확장부가 끝나는 위치에서 동맥 벽에 비해 약 1.5배 정도의 큰 전단변형률 값을 가졌다. 동맥류 최대확장부 후부에서는 벽전단변형률의 방향의 바뀌며, 위치에 따른 전단변형률의 변화가 크게 나타났다. 맥동류 유동에서는 동맥류의 위치에 따라 시간에 따른 벽전단형률 파형이 측정되었다. 동맥류 내부에서는 전단변형률의 크기가 작고 그 방향이 시간에 따라 변화가 심하였으므로 혈관벽의 구조변화가 발생하기 쉬운 지역으로 지목된다. 동맥류 최대 확장부 후부는 위치 및 시간에 따른 전단변형률의 변화가 심하며, 혈관벽 응력이 최대값을 갖는 지역이므로 동맥류의 파열이 발생하기 쉬운 지역으로 예측된다.

Influence of Implant Shapes on Stress Distribution in the Jaw Bone by Finite Element Analysis (고정체의 나사산 설계 변수의 변화에 따른 하악골의 응력해석)

  • 고정체 나사산 형상이 식립된 고정체를 둘러싸고 있는 턱 뼈에서 발생된 응력분포에 미치는 영향과 효과적인 나사산 형상을 결정하기 위해서 다양한 치아 고정체 형상에 대해서 응력해석을 수행하였다. 나사산 골 한쪽 부위에 라운딩이 된 형상의 고정체에서 발생된 응력분포는 다른 나사산 형상의 고정체에서 발생된 응력분포보다 더 효과적으로 나타났다. 이 해석 결과를 근거로 최적의 고정체 치수를 결정하기 위해서 나사산 끝단의 폭, 나사산 높이, 그리고 가해지는 하중의 방향 등과 같은 설계 변수의 변화에 따른 응력해석이 수행되었다. 최대 응력 집중은 고정체 나사산의 첫단 부위에서 발생하였으며, 100 N의 15도 경사하중이 가해졌을 때 발생된 최대 등가응력은 동일 크기의 수식하중보다 2배 정도 더 높게 나타났다. 그리고 나사산 끝단의 폭과 나사산 높이 사이의 연관성에 관련된 해석결과에서 나사산 끝단의 폭과 나사산 높이 사이의 연관성 효과는 무시할 만큼 작다는 것을 알았다. 고정체의 나사산 피치에 대한 나사산 끝단의 폭의 비와 나사산 높이의 비가 각각 0.5와 0.46일 때 다른 고정체의 치수들보다 더 효과적인 응력분포가 나타났다

Finite Element Analysis on the Deformation Behavior Stability of Contact Sealing Rings (접촉식 밀봉 링의 변형거동 안정성에 관한 유한요소해석)

  • In this study, the deformation behavior stability of sealing rings with three different cross sectional areas has been presented using a FEM technique. To investigate the deformation behavior stability, the initial compression rate of 25% has been applied to the sealing ring, which is molded with a nitrile butadiene rubber. The maximum strain, maximum stress, and maximum contact normal stress have been analyzed for the working fluid pressure of $25kgf/cm^2$. The FEM results show that the maximum strain of a hollow o-ring and a hollow rectangular ring with a hollow space in the center of a sealing ring is higher than that of a conventional o-ring, but the maximum stress and the maximum contact normal stress are low. In these results, the sealing rings with a hollow space in the center of the cross sectional area is recommended to increase an extended endurance stability of sealing rings. But, the solid sealing ring is designed to guarantee the sealing safety of a contact sealing ring.

Shape optimal design of a dust cover for ball joint of automotive steering system (조향장치용 볼 조인트 더스트 커버의 형상최적설계)

  • Finite element analysis is performed to evaluate stress and deformation of a wrinkle-type dust cover for the ball joints of tie rods of automotive steering system. Results of the analysis for assembly and operation condition show that sealing capability is good and the maximum stress on the body is smaller than the tensile strength. An optimal shape of the dust cover is obtained using the Taguchi method to reduce the maximum stress. The maximum stress of the optimal design under the operation condition is reduced by 22 per cent of that of the initial design. Results of the research show that performance evaluation and design of the dust covers can be effectively done using the proposed method.
