Fabrication of Photocatalytic $TiO_2$ Thin Film Using Aerosol Deposition Method (Aerosol Deposition 법을 이용한 광촉매 $TiO_2$ 박막 제조)

  • We fabricates the $TiO_2$ thin film from anatase phase $TiO_2$ powder having good photocatalytic property using aerosol deposition method at room temperature. Aerosol deposition method, which sprays an aerosol powder with ultrasonic velocity and deposits a thin film on substrate at low temperature, has the advantages of low thermal stress and low cost. To fabricate the $TiO_2$ thin film, the aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure were 500 torr and 0.4 torr, respectively. The difference of aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure accelerated the $TiO_2$ nano powder to ultrasonic velocity through the nozzle of $0.4 mm{\times}10 mm$ and $TiO_2$ thin film was finally formed. SS mesh with diameter of 50 mm was used as a substrate to apply the $TiO_2$ thin film to water quality purification. The raw powder was dehydrated for the good dispersion of $TiO_2$ powder. To suppress the formation of second particle, the powder was dispersed for 90 min in alcohol bath by ultrasonic treatment and desiccated. The grain size of $1 {\mu}m$ was observed in $TiO_2$ thin film deposited on SUS mesh by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The anatase phase of $TiO_2$ thin film was also observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the anatase phase of raw powder was nicely maintained after aerosol deposition. The results are applicable to water treatment filter having photocatalytic reaction.

Highly-permeable SBS/UiO-66 Mixed Matrix Membranes for CO2/N2 Separation (CO2/N2 분리를 위한 SBS/UiO-66 기반의 고투과성 혼합 매질 분리막)

  • In this study, we developed mixed matrix membranes by blending thermoplastic elastomer, i.e. polystyreneblock-polybutadiene-block-polystyrene (SBS) block copolymer with the synthesized UiO-66 particles for CO2/N2 gas separation. To investigate the effect of UiO-66 particles in the SBS matrix, we prepared different mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) by varying the mass ratio of SBS and UiO-66 in the blend. To fabricate well-dispersed UiO-66, the SBS/UiO-66 mixture was sonicated and stirred thoroughly. The physico-chemical properties of prepared membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The gas separation performance was measured by time-lag method. The permeability of the MMMs increased significantly as the content of UiO-66 increased, but the CO2/N2 selectivity did not decrease significantly. The membranes containing 20% of UiO-66 particles showed the best performance with the CO2 permeability and CO2/N2 selectivity of 663.8 barrer and 13.3, respectively. This result showed performance closer to upper bound than pure SBS membrane in the Robeson plot, as the added UiO-66 particles did not significantly sacrifice selectivity and more than doubled gas permeability.

A Study on Shear Bond Strength of Core-veneer Interface for Bilayered all Ceramics (Bilayered all Ceramics에서 Core와 Veneer 계면의 전단결합강도에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the bond strength of the core-veneer interface in all ceramic systems. Material and Methods: The all ceramic systems tested with their respective veneer were IPS Empress 2 with IPS Eris, IPS e.max Press with IPS e.max Ceram and IPS-e.max ZirCAD with IPS e.max Ceram. Cores (N=36, N=12/group, diameter: 10mm, thickness: 3mm) were fabricated according to the manufacturer's instruction and cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner. The veneer(diameter: 3mm, thickness: 2mm) were condensed in stainless steel mold and fired on to the core materials. After firing, they were again ultrasonically cleaned and embedded in acrylic resin. The specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 1 week. The specimens were placed in a mounting jig and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine(Z020, Zwick, Germany). Load was applied at close to the core-veneer interface as possible with crosshead speed of 1.00mm/min until failure. Average shear bond strengths(MPa) were analyzed with a one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test(${\alpha}=.05$). The failed specimens were examinated by scanning electron microscopy(JSM-6360, JEOL, Japan). The pattern of failure was classified as cohesive in core, cohesive in veneer, mixed or adhesive. Results: The mean shear bond strength($MPa{\pm}SD$) were IPS e.max Press $32.85{\pm}6.75MPa$, IPS Empress 2 $29.30{\pm}6.51MPa$, IPS e.max ZirCAD $28.10{\pm}4.28MPa$. IPS Empress 2, IPS e.max Press, IPS e.max ZirCAD were not significantly different from each others. Scanning electron microscopy examination revealed that adhesive failure did not occur in any all ceramic systems. IPS Empress 2 and IPS e.max Press exhibited cohesive failure in both the core and the veneer. IPS e.max ZirCAD exhibited cohesive failure in veneer and mixed failure.
