Effects of Taeumin, Soeumin and Soyangin Prescriptions on the Adipocyte Induced by Gold Thioglucose in the Rat (태(太)·소음인(少陰人), 소양인(少陽人)의 처방(處方)이 Gold thioglucose로 유발(誘發)된 백서(白鼠)의 비만병(肥滿病)에 미치는 효과(效果))

  • It is researched to elucidate the effects of Taeumjowuitang(TE,太陰調胃湯), Sibimikwanjungtang(SE, 十二味寬中湯) and Yangkeogsanwhatang(SY,凉膈散火湯) on the obesity induced by gold thioglucose and the differentiation and growth of preadipocyte 3T3-L1 in the mouse. The result were as follows: 1. TE,SE and SY extracts improved the blood level of transaminase in the obese mouse induced by gold thioglucose. 2. TE,SE and SY extracts inhibited the increase of liver fat and body fat in the obese mouse induced by gold thioglucose. 3. TE,SE and SY extracts inhibited the increase of body weight in the obese mouse induced by gold thioglucose. 4. TE,SE and SY extracts inhibited the growth of undifferentiate preadipocyte 3T3-L1. 5. TE,SE and SY extracts showed inhibitory effect on the differentiation of preadipocyte 3T3-L1. The above results suggest that the TE,SE and SY extracts may be used on the obesity induced by the overgrowth and differentiation of adipocyte, and the accumulation of fat in liver and body.

Survey on Kimchi Intake Patterns and Attitudes towards Development of Functional Kimchi among Middle and High School Students in Busan Area (부산지역 중·고등학생의 김치 섭취 실태 및 기능성 김치 개발에 관한 태도 조사)

  • The intake patterns and attitudes towards development of functional kimchi among middle and high school students in Busan area were studied. Nine hundred respondents, consisting of middle and high school students, were surveyed. A total of 833 completed copies of the questionnaire were used in this research. Respondents preferred kimchi due to its 'ot taste' (49.2%) and 'alty taste' (17.9%), but they did not like kimchi due to its 'our taste' (33.8%) and 'eotgal taste' (22.9%). Most students (64.3%) consumed kimchi at home, 68.1% of students ate kimchi more than twice a day, and 27.4% of students consumed 3~4 pieces (size of a piece: $3{\timess}4cm$) of kimchi per meal. Students showed a strong desire to develop kimchi with a good taste at school food services (65.1%). They also showed intentions to increase intake of kimchi if 'aste of kimchi' (80.6%), and 'ealth functionality of kimchi' (65.2%) are strengthened. Students wanted kimchi to contain the following fruits: pears (41.3%), apples (24.6%) and pineapples (10.3%). Finally, students showed a desire to develop kimchi that helps growth and development (59.5%), weight loss (40.4%), and learning ability improvement (32.8%). This study concludes that it is necessary to increase kimchi intake in school foodservices by developing new kimchi recipes that meet students' desires and by educating students about the health benefits of kimchi.

Effects of Line Dance Exercise on HOMA-IR and Energy Metabolic Factors in Postmenopausal Obese Women (라인댄스 운동이 폐경 후 비만여성의 인슐린저항성지수와 에너지대사조절인자에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of line dance exercise on HOMA-IR and energy metabolic factors in postmenopausal obese women. The subjects were 24 obese women composed of the line dance group(n=12) trained for 12-week and the control group(n=12). The variables of body composition, HOMA-IR and energy metabolic factors were measured in all the subjects before and after the 12-week line dance exercise. The results of the study in the line dance group were as follows; The body weight, %fat, BMI, WHR and VFA had significantly decreased, but LBM had increased. The ghrelin, HDL-C had significantly increased, but leptin, insulin, glucose, HOMA-IR, TC, TG, LDL-C, SBP and DBP had decreased. And ghrelin, leptin, insulin, and glucose were the energy metabolic factors affecting the HOMA-IR in the line dance group. Therefore, regular and continuous line dance exercise will be effective for preventing the life-style diseases with improvement of the energy metabolic factors and insulin resistance by decreasing the body fat.

Effects of Alginate Oligosaccharide on Lipid Metabolism in Mice Fed a High Cholesterol Diet (알긴산 올리고당이 고콜레스테롤식이를 급여한 마우스의 지질대사에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of alginate oligosaccharide on lipid metabolism in mice fed a high-cholesterol diet for 6 weeks. Male apoE mice were assigned to four groups: normal diet group (N), high-cholesterol diet group (HC), HC with 5% alginate oligosaccharide group (HC-AOL), and 10% alginate oligosaccharide group (HC-AOH). Epididymal adipose tissue and kidney adipose tissue weights were significantly reduced in the HC-AOH group by 131.4% and 148.4%, respectively, as compared to the HC group. Serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), and LDL-cholesterol levels were also significantly reduced in the HC-AOH group by 57.5%, 51.4%, and 82.9%, respectively, as compared to the HC group. Hepatic TC and TG levels in the HC-AOH group were significantly reduced by 72.3% and 33.5%, respectively, as compared to the HC group. These results indicate that alginate oligosaccharide might improve lipid metabolism and reduce fat accumulation.

Effects of Dietary Mugwort Powder on Carcass and Meat Quality Characteristics of Gilt and Barrow in Growing-Finishing Period (인진쑥 급여가 성별에 따른 육성-비육기 돈육의 도체 및 육질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effect of mugwort powder on carcass characteristics, proximate composition, cholesterol contents, and meat qualities in growing-finishing gilt and barrow(LY×D). Totally 80 pigs (40 gilts and 40 barrows, approximately 50kg each) with 10 pigs per treatment were randomly alloted. The diet group was prepared as 0(C), 0.5(T1), 1.0(T2), and 1.5%(T3) mugwort powder in basal diet, respectively. They were fed experimental diets for 90 days before slaughtered. Carcass weight was increased by dietary mugwort powder(p<0.05), whereas changes in back fat thickness and meat grade were unaffected by dietary supplements. Meat moisture, fat, ash, and cholesterol were not differ significantly in the samples, however, protein in T2 and T3 were significantly higher than the control (p<0.05). Meat pH48, water holding capacity, and cooking loss were not differ significantly in the samples (p>0.05), and shear force of fresh meat and fat were not differ significantly in the samples(p>0.05). Lightness(L*) of meat was increased but that of fat was decreased by dietary mugwort powder, whereas changes in redness(a*) and yellowness(b*) were unaffected by dietary supplements.

Body Contouring of Breast and Abdomen with Belt Dermolipectomy after Massive Weight Loss: A Case Report (과다 체중 감량 환자에서의 허리띠 피부지방절제술의 치험례)

  • Purpose: Obese proportion is increasing universally, estimating more than a billion. So reducing the weight became one of the topic in medical market. Not only diet, exercise, medication, but also many surgical procedures are being developed, such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass surgery. After massive weight loss, skin excess and laxity occurs, leading to unsatisfying body contour. Body contouring surgery including abdominoplasty, breast reduction is performed when skin excess is present in abdomen and breast. When skin excess is present circumferentially, belt dermolipectomy is the treatment of choice. Methods: A 23-year-old man had weight gain since he was 12 of age. A year before visiting to our department, his height was 168 cm, weight was 150 kg and body mass index (BMI) was 53.15 kg/$m^2$. The patient lost 55 kg of his weight through exercise and diet control. When he visited again, his weight was 95 kg and BMI was 33.66 kg/$m^2$. In physical examination, skin excess and laxity was seen in both breast and abdomen circumferentially and lateral folds were seen in the back. Abdominal contour deformity (Pitman classification type 6) and pseudogynecomastia (grade 3) were present in both breast. Belt dermolipectomy of abdomen, both breast and lateral folds was performed, resecting 6,400 g of tissue and additive 1,200 g through revisional operation. Results: The patient lost 6,500g of his weight and BMI reduced by 2.3 kg/$m^2$. The patient's hospital course was uneventful during 5 weeks of hospitalization and he was satisfied with his final body contour. Conclusion: Body contouring with belt dermolipectomy in patient who has circumferential skin excess and laxity after massive weight loss can be a treatment of choice.

The effects of weight loss by a low-calorie diet and a low-calorie plus exercise in overweight undergraduate students (과체중 대학생에서 저열량식이 또는 저열량식이와 운동병합에 의한 체중 감량 효과)

  • Korean undergraduate students attempt to lose weight but often fail due to utilizing ineffective weight loss strategies. Some diet programs have succeeded, yet, they have not provided adequate skills for long-term weight maintenance. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of a low calorie diet and exercise with nutritional education on weight loss, serum lipid profiles, nutrient intakes, and dietary behavior modification in overweight and obese undergraduate students. The subjects in the low calorie diet group (LCD; n = 12) and the low calorie diet plus exercise group (LCDE; n = 13) had the same goal of losing 4 kg during a 12 week program. Nutrient intakes were assessed by the 24 hour recall method. Also, food habits and dietary behaviors were investigated by self-administered questionnaires before and after the weight control program and one month after completing the program. LCD and LCDE groups lowered body weight by 2 kg and 1 kg, respectively, although they decreased calorie intake by 355 and 287 kcal per day compared to intakes prior to the study. Body fat mass decreased in both the LCD and LCDE groups; however, the decrease was greater in the LCDE group. In addition, only the LCDE group increased muscle mass. The LCD group had a slightly better effect in reducing body weight, body fat, and waist circumference than the LCDE group. However, their decrease was reversed after the mid-study check in the LCD group; the reduction was better maintained and decreased more in the LCDE group. However, serum lipid profiles were already in borderline prior to the study; moreover, they were not modified after losing weight. The dietary behavior program helped students to develop better dietary habits. In conclusion, the combination of a low calorie diet and exercise is necessary in order to maintain longer weight loss by increasing muscle mass and decreasing body fat.

재래산양의 과배란처리에 있어서 회수시간이 난자의 회수율에 미치는 영향

  • 재래산양은 우리나라 고유의 유전자원으로서 보존뿐만 아니라 개량이 절실히 요구됨에도 불구하고 첨단생명공학기술을 이용한 연구가 극히 미진한 실정이다. 본 연구는 재래산양에 있어서 과배란처리에 의한 미수정 난자의 회수율 개선과 최적의 quality를 확보하기 위하여 과배란 처리 후 회수시간이 난포의 발달과 난자의 회수율에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 공시동물은 체중 15kg 전후의 성숙한 미경산 재래산양으로서 발정동기화를 위하여 CIDR(Eazi Breed, InterAg, New Zealand)를 10일간 질내에 삽입하고 과배란 처리는 FSH를 CIDR 삽입 8, 9, 10일째에 12시간 간격으로 70mg을 감량법으로 투여하였으며, PGF2$\alpha$는 8일째에 FSH와 함께 투여하고 CIDR제거는 10일째에 제거와 동시에 hCG 400IU를 투여하였다. 수정란회수는 외과적인 방법으로 실시하였으며, 난관에서 관류방법으로 난자를 회수한 다음 난포에서 흡입방법으로 난포란을 회수하였다. hCG 투여 후 29~34시간과 46~50시간에 관찰된 난포수는 두당 10.29개(144/14) 및 7.83개(47/6)였다. 또한 난포로부터 난포란의 채란율은 각각 66.0%(95/144) 및 53.2%(25/47)였으며, 두당 6.79$\pm$0.9개 및 4.17$\pm$1.1개의 난자를 채란하였다. hCG 투여 후 회수시간에 따른 난관에서 회수한 난자 수는 29~34시간 및 46~50시간 후 채란시 배란점은 평균 4.36개(61/14) 및 7.33개 (44/6)였으며, 난관에서 난자 채란율은 39.3%(24/61) 및 29.5%(13/44)였으며, 재래산양 한마리당 평균 1.71$\pm$0.5개 및 2.17$\pm$1.4개의 난자를 채란하였다. 난관으로부터 회수한 난자의 회수율은 29~34시간째에는 61개의 배란점을 확인하였으나 회수한 난자수는 24개로서 39.3%의 회수율을 보였고 두당 회수율은 1.71$\pm$0.5개였으며, 46~50시간에서는 29.5%의 회수율과 2.17$\pm$1.4개의 두당 회수율을 보였다. 회수한 난포란의 등급에 있어서 29~34시간에 등급별 회수율이 각각 GI(27.4%), GII(14.7%), GIII(43.2%), GIV(14.7%)로 나타났으며, 46~50시간에는 GI(12.0%), GII(12.0%), GIII(28.0%), GIV(48.0%)로 나타났다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때 미성숙 난자의 회수는 hCG 투여 후 29~34시간이 적합한 것으로 생각된다.

Fad Dieting Status and Need for Nutrition Education on Healthy Dieting of the University Students according to the Desired Loss Weight (남녀 대학생의 감량 희망 체중에 따른 식이조절 다이어트 실태 및 영양교육 요구도)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the fad dieting status and needs of nutrition education on healthy dieting in male and female collegians according to the desired loss weight. The subjects were 611 students (287 males, 324 females) from universities in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces in Korea. The subjects were divided into the following four groups based on the difference between their current body weight and their desired body weight: no desired weight loss (WL0), desired weight loss less than 5 kg (WL5), desired weight loss 6 to 10 kg (WL10), and desired weight loss more than 11 kg (WL11). The fad dieting status was surveyed using a questionnaire about 11 selected trendy dieting methods. The higher desired weight loss group showed higher current weight and BMI in both males and females. Self weight overestimation was higher in the females than in the males, and in the WL10 group than in the other groups of males. As desired loss weight increased, weight loss trials and experienced trendy dieting types increased in both males and females. In the male subjects, the experience of the half meal diet and the chicken breast diet was significantly associated with the desired loss weight. In females, trials of more trendy diet types including the half meal diet, cereal diet, fasting, and Atkins diet were significantly associated with the higher desired loss weight. The need for nutrition education on healthy dieting was high among all the different desired weight loss groups, showing that a minimum of 60% of subjects in each group answered 'necessary and strongly necessary', with the highest in the WL11 group in both males and females. From these results, desired loss weight is associated with higher current weight status, unhealthy weight control practices, and needs for nutrition education in both male and female subjects. Therefore, in the future, nutrition education programs should give greater attention to providing healthy dieting methods for young collegians who desire more weight loss.

Effect of Lighting Regimes on Performance and Meat Quality of Broilers (점등체계가 육계의 생산성과 육질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The study was carried out to investigate the effect of lighting regimes on performance and meat quality of broiler. A total of 912 chicks was divided into 2 groups with male (3 replications/group, 34 heads/replication) and female (3 replications/group, 42 heads/replication). Treatments were control (C, natural lighting), T1 treatment (24L), and T2 treatment (1~2d, 24L; 2~4d, 23L+1D; 4~16d, 16L+8D; 16~21d, 18L+6D; 21~42d, 23L+1D) by lighting regimes. There was no significantly different on body weight, body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio of male and female of broilers among treatments. There was no significantly different on cooking loss and water hold capacity of all broiler's meats among treatments. Share force of lighting regimes was higher compared to control (P<0.05). There was no significantly different on common ingredients (moisture, crude protein, crude fat, and ash) of broiler's meat. Finally, lighting regimes may decrease the stress as well as improve the growth performance and meat quality of broilers
