Objectives This study was aimed to report significant improvement of vestibular neuronitis treated with Cheongsimyeonja-tang. Methods The patient was treated with Sasang herbal medicine for vestibular neuronitis. Also acupuncture and pharmacopuncture were used to treat neck and shoulder pain. Numeral rating scale(NRS), Romberg test, Spontaneous nystagmus, Induced nystagmus and Head thrust test were used to observe changes of dizziness in vestibular neuronitis. Results and Conclusions After 41days of treatment, the patient showed improvement in NRS. Also, the patient's symptoms of nausea, dyspepsia, sleep disturbance were improved. This study shows that Cheongsimyeonja-tang might be effective in Taeumin patient's vestibular neuronitis.

Wallenberg's syndrome is a neurological condition caused by a stroke in the vertebral or posterior inferior cerebellar artery of the brain stem. Wallenberg's syndrome is also called Lateral Medullary Syndrome. In this case report, we are going to describe the clinical menifestation and progress of one case of Wallenberg's syndrome and review previously published case reports about it and compare them to our case. In conclusion, significant improvements were observed in some symptoms but there were some symptoms not improved such as paresthesia. So further researches are needed for more effective treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-atherosclerotic effects of 4 herbal formulas for Sasang constitutional medicine (Yeoldahanso-tang: YDHST, Yanggyeoksanhwa-tang: YGSHT, Cheongsimyeonja-tang: CSYJT and Taeeumjowi-tang: TEJWT). Methods : The antioxidant activities of herbal formulas were studied by measuring free radical scavenging activities on ABTS and DPPH. The inhibitory effects on LDL oxidation was evaluated by the formation of TBARS, REM and fragmentation of apolipoprotein B-100 (ApoB). Effects of herbal formulas on macrophage lipid accumulation were determined in native LDL and LPS co-incubated macrophages using Oil Red O staining. Results : The scavenging activities on ABTS and DPPH of herbal formulas were increased in dose-dependent manner (YDHST>YGSHT>CSYJT>TEJWT). Herbal formulas reduced the oxidation properties of LDL induced by $CuSO_4$. YDHST, YGSHT and CSYJT showed strong suppressive effect on LDL oxidation than TEJWT. In addition, YDHST, YGSHT and CSYJT significantly inhibited foam cell formation in LDL/LPS stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Conclusions : These results demonstrate that YDHST, YGSHT and CSYJT have potentials on anti-atherosclerosis by antioxidative effect and suppressive effect on LDL oxidation.

1. Objective: The aim of this study was to report significant improvement of tinnitus and insomnia after treatment with Cheongsimyeonja-tang in a Taeeumin patient with Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss(SSHL) that accompanied with Tinnitus. 2. Method: We measured the hearing recovery. For diagnosis on this case, pure tone audiometry was used. The degree of improvement was evaluated by Siegel's Criteria. Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Tinnitus Handicap Inventory(THI) were also used to assess tinnitus objectively. 3. Result: There was no improvement in pure tone audiometry by Siegel's Criteria. However, VAS score was decreased from 10 to 1 and THI score was also decreased from 74 to 48. 4. Conclusion: A patient with SSHL, who has little possibility of recovery of hearing loss, was treated with Cheongsimyeonja-tang in a short period and significant improvement in tinnitus and insomnia was observed. We consider that consistent treatment of Cheongsimyeonja-tang can contribute to improve the hearing loss.

Herbal medicine has been used in the Eastern world for 2,000 years, and is beneficial for numerous diseases. There have been reports pertaining to the safety of herbal medicine, but there have been few reports about herbal medicine induced liver injury in Eastern or Western medicine. Most are descriptions of hepatotoxicity of certain toxic herbs. We experienced one case of drug induced liver injury in the treatment of cerebral infarction with Chungsim Yeonja-tang. Although the patient had not used medication and Chungsim Yeonja-tang has no toxic herbs in it. patient's ALP, AST, ALT, GGT was twice elevated after 20 days on medication. This was diagnosed as drug induced liver injury, possibly due to incorrect diagnosis of Sasang constitution. So no herbal medicine was given for seven days. Then Gagam Saeng Gan-tang was given. Gagam Saeng Gan-tang have been used to treat hepatic disease and have been known to have beneficial effects. After 25 days on medication, the clinical symptoms and liver function improved. So, this case is presented to bring more attention to the toxicity of herbal medicines.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Sasang constitutional herbal extracts, Cheongsimyeonjatang(CYT) on ECG(electrocardiogram). For this purpose, Ten hospitalized Taeumin patients were selected and changes of the ECG was investigated. The researcher also measured and observed ECG changes before and after CYT medication. The following is the summarized results of study. 1. The RV5+SV1 voltage was decreased in LVH patients. 2. The S-T voltage was decrease in the previous S-T elevated patients. 3. The heart rate was increased in the patients of lower heart rate than normal. 4. There was no remarkable change after medication on T-inversion and bundle branch block. From the above results, it is concluded that Cheongsimyeonjatang(CYT) have influenced on ECG.

Purpose : Studies on the Regulatory Effect of Cytokine Production in Taumin Patients with Cerebral Infarction by Cheongsimyeonjatang Method : ELISA(enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay) Result : Chungsimyeunjatang(CYT) is a prescription for the cerebral infarction (CI) patients of Taeumin according to Sasang constitution philosophy. Taeumin patients with CI were treated with CYT during the acute stage. Clinical signs of CI disappeared markedly in about two to four weeks after oral administration of CYT in all patients. The mean interleukin (IL)-2 plasma levels were slightly lower in the patients with CI than in the normal groups, whereas the mean IL-4, IL-6 and IgE levels were significantly higher in the patients. There were no significant differences in $interferon-{\gamma}$ $(IFN-{\gamma})$ levels between the groups. Serum $IFN-{\gamma}$ and IL-2 levels derived from T helper (Th)1 cells were elevated significantly in the patients with CI by CYT administration. Significant reduced plasma levels of IL-4 and IL-6 derived from Th2 cells and IgE were observed in the patients treated with CYT. During the period of CYT administration, there were no other adverse effects. The data indicate that CYT has a good CI treatment effect, and that its action may be due to regulation of cytokine Production.

Objective This study was aimed to provide the information about Cheongsimyeonja-tang by domestic papers and theses. Method 50 Domestic papers related to Cheongsimyeonja-tang were selected according to the criteria. These papers were classified and analyzed by research designs, methods and results. Result The following results were obtained in this study. 1. 19 experimental studies on the effect of Cheongsimyeonja-tang were mainly focused on anti-aging, followed by anti-allergy, anti-inflammation, improvement of immune system. And there were 4 experimental studies on the safety of Cheongsimyeonja-tang, proving safety by acute toxicity test, nephrotoxicity test, drug interaction, and test of residual ingredients after decoction. 2. 25 clinical studies on the effect of Cheongsimyeonja-tang were mainly focused on cardiovascular and cerebral vascular diseases, followed by psychiatric and otologic disorder, dermatologic and musculoskeletal diseases. Also, there were 2 studies on the effect of Cheongsimyeonja-tang for diabetes insipidus, macular degeneration, digestive disorder in terminal cancer, drug-induced hepatitis. 3. More evidenced studies on Cheongsimyeonja-tang are needed and it is recommended that psychiatric questionnaire should be used for assessing the effects of Cheongsimyeonja-tang.

Objectives The aim of this study was to report significant improvement of vertigo, tinnitus and aural fullness after treatment with Cheongsimyeonja-tang in a Taeeumin patient with Meniere's disease. Methods The patient was diagnosed with Taeeumin Dry-heat symptomatic pattern and treated with Cheongsimyeonja-tang and acupuncture. The patient's subjective symptoms of vertigo, tinnitus and aural fullness were observed using Global Assessment Scale (GAS) during the treatment period. Results & Conclusions The symptoms of vertigo, tinnitus and aural fullness decreased from GAS 100 to GAS 0 for seven weeks. Furthermore, the patient's symptoms of insomnia, urinary frequency, chest discomfort and fatigue were reported to be improved after treatment. In conclusion, this study shows that Sasang Constitutional Medicine can be effective treatment for Taeeumin patient with Meniere's disease diagnosed as Dry-heat symptomatic pattern.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia that is a potent independent risk factor for stroke. The incidence of AF increases with age and most affected people have underlying cardiac disease. An aging society increases the incidence of AF patients. The case was designed to evaluate the improving effect of Chengsim Yeunja-tang (CYT) for atrial fibrillation (AF) with Cb-infarction patients. This patient was treated with CYT and had significant improvement in symptoms and change of EKG. -Heart rate decreased in patients with higher than normal heart rate -RV5+SV1 voltage decreased (LVH improved) -Arrhythmia remained steady. -Palpitation. chest discomfort, dyspnea, headache, dizziness diminished. Results suggest that CYT is an effective treatment for Taeumin AF patients.
