The purpose of this study is to measure the levels of eluted and dissolved CO2, and CO, volatile organic substances and radiation composition of Cheongsong mineral water which were collected from November 2019 to July 2020 during the autumn, spring, and summer seasons at collection points located in the upper, middle and lower spring waters. Data of the upper, middle and lower spring waters include the following: the amount of eluted water (average value±standard deviation, mL/min) was 30.07±0.52, 15.03±0.16, 23.73±0.42, and the amount of CO2 gas was 1,000 ppm or more. In addition, there was no detection of CO or total volatile organic substances (TVOC) and the radiation dose was 0.08 to 0.13. μSv/h. A blank test value of 0.08 to 0.10 μSv/h, when compared with the median value, showed a high value of 0.02 μSv/h, and the uranium test results provided by the Cheongsong-gun Office were 0.0118 mg/L (date 2019.06.18) and 0.0091 mg/L (date 2020.06.04.) respectively, which was less than the permission limit of 0.03 mg/L. However, it is believed that further research using more precise devices is needed in order to guarantee the safety and health of the water.
This study was carried out to define the effects of external factors including temperature, moisture, oxygen and light quality on the germination of sesame seeds and to investigate the change of major chemical constituents of seeds during germination. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The average germination ratio was from 95.8% to 97.2% when it was tested every $5^{\circ}C$ intervals from $20^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$ and no significant difference in germination ratio was found within $20^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$. But the germination ratio dropped rapidly to 32.2% when seeds were germinated at $15^{\circ}C$ and the coefficient of variation become greater(77%) 2. The days required for germination ranged from 1.16 to 1. 64 at the temperatures of $35^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$ and they were 3.07 and 10.4 at the temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$, respectively. 3. Considering the germination ratio and days needed, $15^{\circ}C$ was assumed to be the minimum temperature for germination practically and this temperature is recommended for testing low temperature tolerance of seed germination of sesame cultivars. 4. The varieties shown the highest low temperature tolerance were Shirogoma and Turkey. The next varieties shown some degree of low temperature germination were Suweon #29, Naebok and IS 58. The varieties with 70 to 80% of germination ratio were Maepo, Suweon #14, Kimpo, Moondeok, and Haenam. Among the 90 varieties tested, the varieties with comparatively high degree of low temperature tolerance were about 10%, and 70% of the low temperature tolerant varieties were domestic varieties. 5. At $12^{\circ}C$ the Shirogoma was the only variety which showed over 50% of germination ratio, 71.4% of the varieties showed less than 20% of germination ratio. When the temperature was raised to $27^{\circ}C$ 18 days after placement at $12^{\circ}C$ all the varieties showed over 90% of germination ratio within 2days. 6. The amounts of water imbibition needed for seed germination were 0.48 to 0.62 times of the seed dry weight at $25^{\circ}C$ and were significantly different among sesame cultivars. About 63% of water required for germination was imbibed in 2 hours after placement of seeds under the germination condition. 7. Under saturated moisture condition the average germination ratio was 0.42%. In the soil of which water potential was -0.4bar 64.8% of the seeds germinated and the most adequate soil water potential for sesame seed germination was about -0.4 to -5.5 bar. The germination ratio decreased as the soil water potential declined below -5.5 bar. 8. Six out of 10 varieties were not influenced by 5% of oxygen in air germination chamber, while varieties such as Yecheon, PI 158073, IS 103 and Euisangcheon showed 64 to 91% of germination under the 5% oxygen content. Under anaerobic condition, cotyledones were not emerged but only hypocotyl was emerged and elongated. The germination ratio of IS 103 decreased significantly under anaerobic condition. 9. When the seeds were dried for 24 hours after 12 hours imbibition of water, the seeds of Cheongsong did not lose their germination ability and 27.5% was germinated but Suweon #9 and Early Russian failed to germinate. However, the germination ratio of IS 103 decreased when the seed were dried 24 hours after 4 hours imbibition of water and the germination ability of IS 103 was maintained even though the seeds were dried for 24 hours after 24 hours imbibition of water. 10. During germination, sugar content of sesame seed increased rapidly and activity of ${\alpha}$-amylase increased gradually while starch content decreased significantly. The rates of increase in sugar content and enzyme activity and decrease in starch content were significantly lower at $15^{\circ}C$ compared with those at $25^{\circ}C$. 11. During germination of sesame seeds, lipid content in the seeds dropped rapidly and the activity of alkaline lipase increased significantly at early stage of germination. The rate of decrease in lipid content and increase in emzyme activity was lower at $15^{\circ}C$ than at $25^{\circ}C$. 12. Four out of 6 varieties were not affected in germination by light wave length. But Suweon #8 was inhibited in germination by 600-650nm. and IS 103 by 600 to 650nm and 500 to 550nm of light wave length. Suweon #8 showed high germination ratio under 650 to 760 nm and 500 to 560nm, and IS 103 under 400 to 470nm and complete darkness. 13. The germination ratios increased significantly in the seeds of which 1000 grain weight is heavier. When the seeds were placed at soil 4cm deep, Cheongsong and Early Russian failed to emerge their cotyledones, but Suweon #9 and IS 103 showed 32.5 and 50% cotyledone emergence, respectively. The extracts from sesame plant and soil where the sesame was cultivated previously did not affect in the-germination of sesame seeds. 14. The covering by black or transparent polyethylene films increased germination ratio compared with uncovered seeds. The covering was effective in shortening the days needed for germination and in improving the early seedling growth, number of capsules per plant and grain yield. Difference was not so seizable between the two polyethylene films but the transparent film appeared somewhat more effective than the black one. 15. Simcheon, Cheongsong. Suweon #9. PI 158073 and IS 103 showed lower rate of water absorbtion by seed during germination and Suweon #8, Suweon #26, Orotall and Euisangcheon showed high increase in seed weight after water absorbtion by seed.
Two cases of human Echinostcma hortense infection were found in Seoul Paik Hospital. Their stools revealed echinostomatid eggs. After treatment with prasiquantel (single does of 10∼12mg/kg) and purgation with magnesium salt, total 21 flukes were collected in one case. The flukes were 5.9∼7.5mm long, had 27∼28 collar spines around their head, laterally deviated ovary and two tandem testes. They were identified as 5. hortense Asada, 1926. The cases are 38-year and 20-year old men residing in Seoul, whose hometown is Chungsonggun and Seungju-gun, Kyongsangbuk-do respectively. They had eaten raw mesh of various kinds of fresh water fishes (both cases) and/or salamander (latter case) , which are considered possible sources of this fluke infection. They experienced abdominal discomfort and/or diarrhea. Hematology revealed 22% eosinophilia in the latter case, but it became 5% after the treatment. Echinostomatid eggs were not found after the treatment in both cases. These are the 4th and 5th human cases of 5. hortense infection in Korea.

HT-$LiCoO_2$ powders were synthesized from hydroxide precursors in this study. The cobalt hydroxide compounds with hydrotalcite-like(${\alpha}$-phase) and/or brucite-like(${\beta}$-phase) structures as a component of the precursor were prepared in various PH conditions using precipitation method. It was found that various phase and compositions of cobalt hydroxides could be tailor-prepared via a careful control of preparation parameters such as the concentration ratio of $[OH^-]/[CO^{2+}]$ and aging time. The hydroxides $Co(OH)_2$ and LiOH were mixed with aqueous methyl-alcohol. The precursor of a HT-$LiCoO_2$ was synthesized via subsequent processes including evaporation, drying and aging. The transformation of tailor-made ${\beta}$-phase $Co(OH)_2$ to CoOOH and formation of solid solution in the precursor were achieved during aging. These results cause HT-$LiCoO_2$ to be synthesized at low temperature($600^{\circ}C$ ) for a short time(10min).

Mechanisms and conditions for rounding of AUC particles were examined during AUC precipitation. Rounding of AUC particle was possible only by external circulation using pump, not by internal circulation using agitator. The rate of AUC rounding $(dn_p/dt)$ was proporational to operation conditions such as magma density $(M_t:g-U/{\iota}l)$, turn over ratio $(T_o)$ and impeller tip velocity of pump (U); $ dn_p/dt{\propto}M_t{\cdot}T_o{\cdot}U^2$. The validity of this relationship was qualitatively confirmed by comparing the expermental results. Two rounding mechanisms were suggested. One is crack formation mechanism and the other etch-pit formation mechanism on the surface of AUC particle. It was found that the crack formation is more dominant at the initial stage and the etch-pit formation at the final stage of the AUC precipitation.

This paper analyzed elution and ingredients of soil components which consist of soil and rocks in 6 regions in Yeongyang and Cheongsong to identify substantial matters that cause muddy water in Imha reservoir. We identified that more than 80% of major ingredients in collected soil and rocks are vermiculite(V), illite(I), kaolinite(Ka), quartz(Q), feldspar(F). Sodium and calcium are eluted in large quantities from soil of Sanseong and Cheongki. When calcium is in contact with water, much ions are eluted rapidly. We confirmed these ions are alkali minerals rising pH. We consider clay components distributed in Yeongyang as major cause of muddy water and rising pH of Imha reservoir because its ingredient calcite easily is dissolved in rainwater and splits other mineral particles into ${\mu}m$ sized particles.
During the year 2014, black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) had been observed with dark brown spots on the leaves at Andong, Cheongsong, Mungyeong in Korea. Symptoms initially appeared as small, black lesions on the leaves, and sometimes, the leaves become yellow and ultimately leads to fall off the leaves. The pathogenic fungus grown in potato dextrose agar was white or sometime gray with mycelia in tufts and from which numerous conidia were produced. The conidia were straight and fusiform in shape and measured $8.3-17.2{\times}2.5-4.1{\mu}m$. Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rRNA sequence analysis for sequence similarity of the ITS region revealed 100% identity with nucleotide sequences for Colletotrichum acutatum. The morphological characteristics, pathogenicity and molecular data have been confirmed that the symptomatic pathogen was C. acutatum. This is the first report of anthracnose caused by C. acutatum on black locust in Korea.

To identify genome sequences of Apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) isolates in Korea, the field survey was performed from 'Hongro' apple orchards located in eight sites in South Korea (Bongwha, Cheongsong, Dangjin, Gimchoen, Muju, Mungyeong, Suwon, and Yeongwol). ASSVd was detected by RT-PCR and PCR fragments were cloned into cloning vector. Full-length viral genomes of eight ASSVd isolates were sequenced and compared with 21 isolates reported previously from Korea, India, China, Japan and Greece. Eight isolates in this study showed 92.2-99.7% nucleotide sequence identities with those reported previously. Phylogenetic analysis showed that seven isolates reported in this study belong to the same group distinct from other groups.
Combined mineralogical and geochemical studies were made on two hundred eighty one representative samples from uraniferous coaly meta-pelites of the Ogcheon metamorphic terrain. Different mineral occurrence of the areas investigated should be taken into account for chemical processes for uranium extraction. Secondary uranium minerals identified are metauranocircite, metatorbernite and autunite. These are disseminated mostly on the laumontites which infused and filled secondary openings in the coaly matrix, and are often closely associated with iron oxides. The uranium distribution show distinctly log normal. Geochemical correlation coefficient of uranium and organic carbon displays +0.624~+0.796. The relationship of the major components to uranium can be expressed by the following regression equation: Log $(U_3O_8{\times}10^4)$=1.40117-0.00076 (quartz) -0.00118 (muscovite) +0.00235 (biotite) +0.00323 (other silicates) - 0.01114 (apatite) +0.01124 (hematite) +0.00149 (limonite) -0.01823 (opaques)+0.03049 (organic carbon). Uranium in the coaly meta-pelites of the Ogcheon Group was deposited together under same physico-chemical environmental conditions. There is a considerable variation in the ${\delta}^{34}S$ values (11.2~16.8 per mil) of the pyrites from the U-bearing meta-pelites, which implies sedimentary origin. The two U-bearing coaly rocks analyzed have ${\delta}^{13}C$ values between -16.88~-18.00 per mil, which suggests organic.
