Objective:This study was performed in order to develop a measuring instrument for assessing and predicting delinquent behavior of the adolescents in Korea. Methods:This study was methodological research for developing a questionnaire for measuring delinquent behavior. Through the relevant literature review and personal interview using open-ended question with 12 adolescents in schools, outpatient basis and the juvenile corrective institutions, the author developed a pre-questionnaire with 31 items for assessing delinquent behavior among delinquentprone adolescents. Statistical method employed were test-retest reliability and Cronbach's alpha coefficient for testing reliability and factor analysis for testing validity of this questionnaire, and t-test for mean difference between student adolescents and delinquent adolescents, using SAS program. Subject served for this study consisted of 2,177 adolescents including 1,206 students and 971 delinquent adolescents by proportional stratified random sampling method. Results:1) Three stable factors were emerged and these contributed 52.2% of the variance in the total score. All 31 items loaded above .40 on each factor. 2) Factor I was named as antisocial delinquent behavior(17 items), factor II was named as aggressive delinquent behavior(8 items), and factor III was named as psychopathic delinquent behavior(6 items). 3) Comparison of these 3 factors between student adolescents and delinquent adolescents showed that there was a significant difference in factor Ⅰ(t=-42.91(student), -41.71(delinquent), p=.0001), factor II(t=-34.10(student), -35.72(delinquent), p=.0001), factor III(t=-14.24(student), -14.26 (delinquent), p=.0000), and total score(t=37.02(student), -36.38(delinquent), p=.0001). 4) Internal consistency reliability was tested by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was .952 for total 31 items and .950, .866 and .721 for each 3 factors related to delinquent behavior. Conclusions:The author confirmed that this scale can use for measuring delinquent behavior, and hope to make a contribution to screening test and prevention of juvenile delinquency in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to compare with three juvenile delinquency theories on adolescents' status offenses including Hirschi's social bonding theory, Agnew's general strain theory, and Akers' social learning theory. The data derived from a sample of 2,337 middle school students taken from National Youth Policy Institute in 2011-2012. Multiple OLS regression analysis revealed that variables from social learning theory were strongly supported as an explanation for adolescents' status offenses, while variables from general strain theory were not supported. The social learning model explained 12.0% of the variance in adolescents' status offenses. However, general strain variables explained 2.6% of the variance in the dependant variable and 6.2% of the variance in adolescents' status offenses were explained by the social bonding variables. The present research made important contributions the further utilization of social learning in investigating many of the damaging forms of social deviance which exist in our society.

This study is to notify differences of H-T-P reactions between Juvenile delinquents groups classified by family system type. This study aims to know reaction of 'House' on each juvenile delinquents and apply to creative school education administration. The research was performed as below: First, Measuring and descriptive statistical analysis were performed. One hundred and twenty subjects who were youths disposed of Seoul nambu youth alternative education center. Data were collected from July to October in 2012. Then There were classified Two groups following subjects; 'parents family' and 'single parent family'. Second, Questionaries assessing demographic and H-T-P by Buck, N. Third, statistical analysis was done by SPSS for Window 18.0. To Verify the reliability of the measures and correlations between two groups, and to find out the difference of the reaction of 'House', were used frequency analysis and Pearson Chi-Square. The results of this is significant personality types of juvenile delinquents are followings; The Juvenile delinquents living 'Single parent family' have frustrations for their past and current family. Also they have mental conflicts for their family better than another group.

Objective:At the present time in Korea, for a considerable proportion of children and adolescent, delinquent behavior and violence has become as a way of life in their lives and a major social problem issue as well. The contributing factors to this problem were assumed to be the negative interaction between family environment and character of adolescent. The purpose of this study is to search the relationship between these constructs and juvenile delinquency. Method:Data were collected through questionnaire survey over a period of 2 months. Subjects served for this study consisted of 1,863 adolescents including 657 delinquent adolescents and 1,206 student adolescents in Korea, sampled from Korean student population and delinquent adolescent population confined in juvenile corrective institutions, using proportional stratified random sampling method. Their age ranged between 12 and 18 years. Data were analysed by IBM PC using SAS program. Statistical methods employed were Chi-square and principal component analysis. Results:The results of this study were as follows:Inconsistency by parental child rearing patterns tended to affect delinquent behavior among delinquent adolescents. On the other hand, adolescent students were consistently reared by their parent with democratic, flexible, trusting their children and reward-oriented attitudes. In comparison of both parents in the degree of influence on their children, it was revealed that paternal child rearing pattern was more influential on their children’s behaviors than maternal’s. The psychological instability of family, disharmonious parent-child relationships tended to be contributing to delinquent behavior among delinquent adolescents. Especially, It was an interesting finding that student’s mother is the higher employed than delinquent’s mother. However working mother was more prevalent in the student’ adolescents than in student adolescents in previous studies. The delinquent adolescents have more depressive trend, more complaints of psychosomatic symptoms, the higher degree of need frustration, the more maladaptive and antisocial personality pattern than student adolescents. Conclusion:Recently, many studies on association between family factor, character of adolescent and juvenile delinquent behavior have produced relatively consistent results. This study showed that family environment and character trait of adolescent also were linked with delinquent behavior such as smoking, drinking, runaway and physical assaults etc. The results of this survey may provide impetus for future speculation and study of correlation or reciprocal interaction between family factor, character trait of adolescent and delinquent behavior during adolescence and beyond.
The purpose of this study is to investigate pathways from family factors such as parental conflict, parenting behavior and adolescents' self-control to adolescent delinquency, and to explore the mediating effects of delinquent peers and school maladaptation. The 2004 Korea Youth Panel Survey data were used for analysis and the total number of subjects were 2,968 middle school students with two parents including step parents family. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS 5 and SPSS 10. The major findings are summarized as follows. First, the effects of parental conflict on adolescent delinquency were mediated by parenting behavior, adolescents' self-control, delinquent peers and school maladaptation. Contrary to parental conflict, parenting behavior had a direct effect on adolescent delinquency as well as indirect effects. On the basis of these results, this article provided some suggestions for preventing or reducing adolescent delinquency.

This study attempted to derive high-risk groups of adolescent status delinquency(ASD) and to identify related factors. This study was conducted with 1,979 adolescents enrolled in the first year of high school, data from the 7th year of the 4th grade panel of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. Classification and regression tree analysis method was used. The ASD group was 264, which was 13.3% of the total. The high-risk group for ASD is that is male who has a low perception of positive parenting style. Positive parenting style was found to be the most important influencing factor in ASD, followed by gender, emotional problems, relationship with teacher, and achievement value. In order to prevent ASD, it is necessary to develop a parenting education program and an intervention program specialized for male adolescents. In addition, interventions that comprehensively deal with emotional problems such as depression and social withdrawal are required, going beyond the previous interventions that focused on aggression. In particular, it has been found that relationship with teachers is the most important influencing factor in the school environment. Through education on the causes and consequences of ASD and training on counseling techniques, the promotion of relationships with teachers will act as a protective factor to prevent ASD.
Child abuse is becoming the cause of runaway young people and is related with the criminal act and the misconduct occurrence. Seriously, the social problem which raises is that the abused child has become the adult, again the children of oneself will abuse again. On the based of the research, this study reviewed the concept of the child abused, the type of the child abused, the theoretical approach of the runaway and juvenile delinquent. The runaway youth compare to the general youth that the abused child was significant p<.05. Base on the data the police officer reviewed the assistance for the abused child.
The aim of this study is to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between adolescent stress and delinquency. For this study, a survey with 565 middle and high school students in Daegu Metropolitan City was carried out, and using the data collected, frequency analysis, descriptive statistic analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and Sobel Test were conducted. The study results are as follows. First, stress had a positively significant effect on delinquency. Second, stress had a negatively significant effect on self-esteem. Third, self-esteem had a negatively significant effect on delinquency. This shows that a high level of stress among adolescents led to an increase in delinquency. Also, a high level of stress perceived by adolescents negatively influenced self-esteem, a low level of self-esteem is related to an increase in delinquency, and self-esteem had a partial mediating effect. Based on these results, therefore, this study suggested methods of introducing a mental health program for reducing adolescent stress and improving self-esteem and of preventing and intervening in delinquency.
The purpose of this study was to compare between two-parent and single-parent families the relationship between perceived parental monitoring/affection and adolescent offline/online delinquency. we analyzed 1,812 cases of high school students (1,628 cases of two-parent families and 184 cases of single-parent families) using the $4^{th}$-and $5^{th}$-year data from the 'Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey'. We used structural equation modeling to understand the correlation between variables, and conducted multi-group analysis to confirm the distinction between family structures. The results of the study were as follows. First, perceived parental monitoring influenced offline adolescent delinquency only among two parent families, while perceived parental affection did not influence either family type. Second, perceived parental affection influenced online adolescent delinquency only among single-parent families, and the path also had a greater negative effect than two-parent families. In the case of perceived parental monitoring, it did not influence online adolescent delinquency regardless of family type, but the path had a greater negative effect on two-parent families than single-parent families. Based on these results-, more concrete social-welfare practical and political implications about adolescent delinquency proposed.

Objectives:Mental health problems have been found to be more common among juvenile delinquents. This report assessed the reliability, and validity of the MAYSI-2K(Massachusettes Youth Screening Instrument-2 Korean) in Korean delinquents to examine the utility as a screening measure. Methods:The study consisted of 119 male juvenile youths(mean age 16) who admitted in the probation & detention office. They completed an assessment battery including MAYSI-2K and K-YSR(Korean-Youth Self Report) upon entry. Factor analysis, reliability test, and validity test were conducted. Results:The results of factor analysis represented 14 factors which showed more factor structures in comparison with published factor loadings of 7 in the MAYSI. In factor analysis according to the each subscale of the MAYSI, the internal coefficients of 7 subscales ranged from .142 to .756. Test-retest reliability revealed significant correlations(r= .84). There were significant correlations among subscales of MAYSI-2K and K-YSR. Conclusion:Our findings suggested that MAYSI-2K might be a useful screening measure. But further studies with extended number of subjects and culturally appropriate items are required for clinical utility of the MAYSI-2K in Korean delinquents.
