The purpose of this study is to analyze trends in the prevalence of dental caries and demand for dental caries treatment among children under 14 years old using Health Insurance Review and Assessment data. The analysis was conducted using treatment records from a random sample of approximately 1 million pediatric patients from a population that included all children and adolescents for each year from 2011 to 2020. In this study, the number of children diagnosed with K02 dental caries and the number of children receiving dental caries treatment across all ages have increased. However, the number of children aged 10 to 14 who received pulp treatment or extraction has decreased. In the National Survey of Children's Oral Health, the decay-missing-filled teeth index for 5- and 12-year-olds has stagnated or increased slightly, but the percentage of the population with active dental caries has decreased. Accessibility and local environments for dental caries treatment have generally improved compared to the past, but preventive dental care has stagnated over the past decade. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of oral health programs implemented in Korea to promote and prevent dental caries among children.

To achieve the dental health of children and adolescents which is the objective of the pediatric dentistry, the role of the public service should be increased. The basis of the public service is established by many laws of which the Dental Health Law is most important. The percentages of primary schools that had the school dental health clinic, that implemented the fluoride rinsing program, and that implemented the group toothbrushing after lunch were 7.2%, 57.5%, and 46.9%, respectively, and the percentages of primary school children that received the dental health education and that received the fissure sealing were 48.0% and 12.4%, respectively(2006). About 42% of infants and preschool children from 0 to 6 years received preventive dental care in the last one year, at the nursery or kindergarten(18%) or at the health center(1%)(2005). The percentage of the health centers that implemented water fluoridation was 11.3%, and the percentage of the population who drank the fluoridated water was 5.7%(2006). It was suggested that the school dental health administration should be unified, that dental health teachers should be employed, and that the comprehensive dental health care should be supplied to all the children and adolescents through the circuit school dentists and the school dental hospitals in the long term. Also, the dentist in charge system for the children and adolescent was suggested.
This study aims to find out the correlation between the number of snack intake frequency by the young Korean and the experience of dental caries by nationwide level, using data of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2007. participants whose age among 12 to 18 years-old were analyzed for this study. Of 373 total participants in this analysis, 200 were male and 173 were female. The Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis was used to estimate the association between food intake between meals and experience of dental caries. Data were weight-adjusted. The results were evidently found that those who eat between meals more frequently are likely to be linked more closely to the dental caries, in terms of the correlation between property of demography and the experience of disease (OR:2.1, CI:1.1-4.0). Thus, It is to raise the awareness of effect on dental health, regarding a kind of food consumed, an appropriate nutritional education or dietary consultation is required regularly at school.
Objectives: In this study 54,848 people were selected as participants to investigate the relationship between oral health factors and eating habits education experiences of adolescents using raw data from the 17th (2021) online survey on adolescent health behavior. Methods: Data were collected using the IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 statistical program was used. A multi-sample chi-square test was performed on the dietary education experience according to the general characteristics of the subjects. Logistic regression analysis was performed on factors affecting the eating habits education experience. Results: Eating breakfast and consuming fruits was more frequent among eating habits (p<0.001). Regarding factors influencing dietary habits education, in the case of eating habits education experience, sealant was 1.23 times higher (p<0.001), and tingling & throbbing were 0.93 times lower (p<0.01). Conclusions: Educating adolescents on correct eating habits is related to oral health, hence a school based oral health education program related to eating habits is necessary for adolescents.

To evaluate the oral health status and to assess the resultant dental treatment needs in adolescents, 2,062 adolescents aged 14-17 years attending middle and high schools in Yangsan were surveyed by clinical examination and questionnaires. The obtained results were as follows. In the dental caries examination based on WHO criteria, the treatment needs of 66.7% of the subjects were determined. Assessment of dental erosion by the VEDE system indicated the treatment needs in 27.8% of the subjects, while MIH examination based on EAPD criteria indicated the treatment needs in 14.7%. Assessment of malocclusion using the occlusal index showed good occlusion in 67.8%, no need for treatment in 19.7%, slight need for treatment in 6.8%, definite need for treatment in 4.5%, and worst occlusion in 1.1% of the subjects, showing 12.5% of average treatment need. The prevalence and treatment need for periodontal disease was found to be 71.2% by CPITN assessments. The assessment of temporomandibular disorders by Helkimo's anamnestic index showed no symptoms in 67.1%, mild symptoms in 13.4%, and severe symptoms in 19.5% of the examinees. The overall treatment need of TMD was 20.6%. Periodontal diseases were ranked the highest in treatment need, followed by dental caries, dental erosion, MIH, TMD, and malocclusion in order. The results of this study indicated the overall status of adolescents'oral health and dental treatment needs. These might hopefully provide fundamental data and contribute to establishing promotional projects for adolescent oral health in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health promotion behavior of adolescents in an effort to help improve policy selling on oral health projects and determine how to teach teens to promote their oral health throughout their lives. The findings of the study were as follows: First, among different sons of oral health promotion behavior, they were best at improving oral nutritive conditions. Second, they differed from one another according to grade and age in improving oral nutritive conditions, and income made a difference to getting oral-related social support. Third, there was generally a significant correlation among the variables that concerned oral health promotion behavior. The effort by this study to grasp the oral health promotion behavior of teenagers is expected to provide useful information on how to encourage students to get into the right oral habit.

Objectives: This study investigated whether the impacts of orthodontic treatment of malocclusion on oral health-related quality of life and happiness are positive with middle and high school students Methods: Subjects were 157 orthodontic patients and 83 non-orthodontic in malocclusion patients. Questionnaires were collected with the self-administered method, and consisted of the general characteristics, self-esteem, social support appraisal scale(friends, family, teacher), Oral Impact on Daily Performance (OIDP) and oxford happiness questionnaire (OHQ). Results: A physical factor was lower in the orthodontic treatment group ($5.8{\pm}2.48$) than in the non-orthodontic treatment group ($7.7{\pm}2.10$)(p<0.001), and OIDP was lower in the orthodontic treatment group ($7.0{\pm}1.79$) than in the non-orthodontic treatment group ($7.8{\pm}1.80$)(p=0.002). A feeling of happiness was higher in the orthodontic treatment group($4.6{\pm}0.81$) than in the orthodontic treatment group ($4.3{\pm}0.89$) (p=0.009). As results of multiple regression analysis, OIDP was affected of orthodontic treatment(${\beta}=-0.0222$, p=0.001) and OHP was affected of orthodontic treatment(${\beta}=0.087$, p=0.030) and OIDP(${\beta}=0.116$, p=0.003). Conclusions: Orthodontic treatment of malocclusion may positively affects happiness in teenager. Support policy for orthodontic treatment of malocclusion is necessary for adolescents.
Periodontal disease as one of oral diseases is a chronic disease that continuously worsens once it occurs. It begins with gingivitis in the late school childhood. Its prevalence rate gradually increases in adolescence and continues to rise until young and middle ages. Therefore, the preventive care for the disease in one's whole life is of very importance. Since periodontal disease can be prevented and controlled by oral health behaviors, this study focuses on the relation between adults' oral health behaviors and the disease and emphasizes its importance. Based on the data of the 2015 6th (3rd Year) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the prevalence rate of periodontal disease was compared according to study subjects' oral health behaviors. As a result, gum disease treatment, the count of gum brushing, use of dental floss use of interdental brush, and subjective oral health condition were statistically meaningful. Given that oral health behaviors are related to periodontal disease, it is necessary to conduct a systematic study for developing and performing the oral health education program to make the right habit of oral health behaviors.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of family function and oral health concern on the oral health impact profile (OHIP) in the adolescents. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 368 middle school students in Gyeongnam from June 9 to 20, 2014. Except incomplete answers, 337 data were analyzed by frequency analysis, chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 20.0 program. The questionnaire consisted of eight questions of the general characteristics of the subjects, seventeen questions of family function, eleven questions of oral health concern, fourteen questions of oral health impact profile (OHIP)-14. Results: OHIP-14 was higher and it showed better oral health-related quality of life in lower grade, liberal parents' rearing attitude, and satisfaction with parent-child relationship. The family function and oral concern were significantly correlated with the OHIP-14. The influencing factors on the oral health-related quality of life are the family function of communication, oral concern of self oral care and food, and general characteristics. Conclusions: The oral health-related quality of life in the adolescents was affected by family function and oral health concern. It is very important and necessary to develop and apply the oral health promotion program including the family function in the adolescents.
This study attempted to identify the entrance exam stress levels in high school students and analyze the relationship this entrance exam stress and perceived oral health status. Self-administered survey was conducted in total 304 students attending in academic high schools in Bucheon. For analysis, SPSS was used to perform t-test and one-way ANOVA. As a result of the study, the entrance exam stress level of academic high school students was 2.71. The level of sub-factors were that tension for exam/poor result was highest by 3.08 and the next were future uncertainty (2.81), parents pressure (2.56), and insufficient free time (2.52). The group with high entrance exam stress showed significantly high perceived degrees of temporomandibular disorder, oral mucosal disease and xerostama. Among sub-factors of stress, the group with high tension for exam/poor result stress had significantly high perceived degrees of dental caries, teporomandibular disorder, oral mucosal disease and xerostama. Because perception on oral health issues increased with high entrance exam stress in high school students, it is necessary to seek some ways to decrease oral health problems even though entrance exam stress is intensified. To do so, it is inferred that it will be very important to promote oral health education to develop ability of high school students to practice correct oral management method.
