The Influence of Parent-Child Interaction and Parenting Stress on Emotional Regulation of Infants with Hearing Impairment (부모-자녀 상호작용과 부모 양육스트레스가 청각장애유아의 정서조절에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parent - child interaction and parenting stress on the emotional regulation of infants with hearing impairment. Method : The sample of this study was to collect 88 mothers of hearing impaired infants and 106 hearing infants living in Busan, Gyeongsang-do, and Chungcheong-do which had purposive or judgmental sampling. The analysis was carried out using by the SPSS 23.0. Results: First, the hearing impaired infant group showed lower emotional regulation ability, lower parent-child interaction, and higher parenting stress than those of the hearing infant group. Second, the parent-child interaction and parenting stress influenced emotional regulation ability of hearing impaired infants and adaptive emotional regulation, and parental parenting stress influenced negative emotional regulation of hearing impaired infants. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the role of caregiver to enhance emotional regulation ability of infants with hearing impairment. It is expected that infants with hearing impairment will be able to socialize with their peers, adapt well to social discipline, and be able to properly control various emotional stimuli.

Translation and Adaptation of the Children's Home Inventory for Listening Difficulties (CHILD) into Korean (가정환경 아동듣기평가(CHILD) 부모용 설문지의 한국어 번역 및 적용 연구)

  • The Children's Home Inventory for Listening Difficulties (CHILD) questionnaire has been applied for assessing listening and communication difficulties in various home situations for children with hearing loss. The purpose of the study was to translate the CHILD questionnaire for parents into Korean and verify reliability and validity of Korean version of CHILD (CHILD-K). CHILD-K was completed by 55 parents of children (from ages 3~12 years) using cochlear implants (CI). Among the 55 children, 27 were in preschool and 28 in elementary. Internal consistency reliability of CHILD-K was verified by Chronbach's alpha. The mixed factorial ANOVA was conducted to compare the effects of the age group and situation factors (Quiet, Noise, Distance, Social, and Media factors) on the score of CHILD. The results indicated that CHILD-K showed excellent internal consistency reliability (${\alpha}=.96$). The CHILD scores among age groups were significantly different as the older age group resulted in higher scores in all situations except Distance. For both groups the mean scores for the Quiet situation were significantly higher than other situations, and the mean scores for the Social situation were significantly lower than other situations. Moreover, analysis showed that children with CI had difficulties in the Social situation combined with other situation factors. The results indicate that the Korean version of CHILD questionnaire is a reliable tool for the assessment of communication abilities in home situation in Korean-speaking children using CI.

  • The purpose of this study is to inquire into the theoretical background of music therapy interventions for the improvement of mathematical concepts among young children with special needs. The researcher provides a basis of theoretical background about musical activities as an effective tool for young children to understand and promote their mathematical concepts, and the necessity of practical application in the field of mathematics education is suggested. Music, as a multi-sensory modality, has an ability to hold and maintain one's attention, and can be used as a memory aid and a powerful and effective motivator and reinforcer for young children. Therefore, musical activities can be used to facilitate mathematical concepts in the field of education for young children. Possible musical activities for promoting mathematical development are suggested, and the necessity for developing various musical activities is discussed.

유아의 언어치료와 청각의 중요성

  • 청각의 중요성은 새잠스럽게 말활 필요도 없고 농아가 말못하는 것은 누구나 다 알 수 있는 사실입니다. 그러나 음을 하나하나 습득하고 단어를 하나하나 반복하면서 언어습득을 시작하는 유년기에 있어서 청각은 더욱 독특한 역활을 합니다. 조국에 돌아와서 일하기 시작한지 일년이 조금 넘었으나 최초부터 우리 연구소에 찾아오는 어린이가 구주제국보다 훨씬 연소하고 또 수가 훨씬 많은 데 놀랐습니다. 그 중 대다수가 조음장애라든가 언어지연입니다. 더욱 놀라운 점은 이러한 장애가 정상지능의 어린이에게 많은 것입니다. 일반상식으로 어휘력과 발표력이 부족한 어린이들은 정신지체아와 혼동하게 됩니다. 연구소에 진단받으러 오는 어린이들을 체계적으로 청각 검사를 한 결과를 슬라이드를 통해서 말씀드리겠습나다. 검사받은 어린이 중 50-60%가 청각에 이상이 있는 것이 발견되었습니다. 동반한 어머니들은 너무나 놀라서 "우리 아이는 검사를 받았어요! 모두 정상이라고 그랬어요" 이 엄마 말씀도 정당하고 전검사도 정당활 것입니다. 그러나 이러한 어린이들의 문제는 특수합니다. 즉 경도난청에다 또 일시적 난청이기 때문에 명시에 생활하는 데는 큰 지장이 없고 때에 따라서는 청각이 거의 완전히 회복되고 또 몇 주후에 감기가 들거나 하면 다시 난청이 되는 것입니다. 이러한 난청문제가 일년에 3-4번씩 반복되어 어린이가 만 3-4세가 되면 약 1년간 청확한 음을 청취못한 셈이 됩니다. 조석에 기온차가 대단한 계절, 난방의 발달로 인하여 실내는 영상 24도이고 문 한겹만 열고 나가면 영하 10도 그 차이는 34도, 거리로 나가면 일산화탄소를 뿜고 쾌주 하는 차량, 버스나 트럭에셔 나오는 연기는 키가 작은 어린이 코속으로 직통하고 에어컨 시스댐으로 난방.냉방하는 지하상가, 백화점, 지하철 기타 대건물에는 바이러스 만연의 적절한 곳이 됩니다. 생리적 저항력이 없는 어린이들은 이러한 공해와 생활조건의 제일희생자가 되는 것입니다. 엄마들이 "얘는 감기, 비염, 편도선을 달고 삽니다...." "얘는 코감기, 목감기 번갈아 가면서 하도 앓고 있어서 양약율 중지하고 현재 한약을 먹고 있습니다." 이러한 역경은 극복할 수 있는가\ulcorner 질병의 메카니즘은 어떻게 작용되는가\ulcorner 등등을 육미회 센타에서 체험한 사례를 가지고 말씀드리고자 합니다.

The Effect of Therapeutic Listening on Occupational Performance, Auditory Problem Behavior, and Attention in Children With Sensory Modulation Disorder (감각조절 장애 아동에게 치료적 듣기가 작업수행, 청각행동문제, 주의집중에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of therapeutic listening on task performance, auditory behavior problems, and attention in children with sensory modulation disorder. Methods : Sixteen children aged four to seven years who were classified as children with sensory modulation disorder were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n = 8) or the control group (n = 8). From July 1 to October 18, 2017, both groups participated in sensory integration programs, while therapeutic listening training was administered only to the experimental group. Sensory integration therapy was conducted in two sessions per week for six weeks (12 sessions); each session consisted of 40 minutes of therapy and 10 minutes of parent education. Therapeutic listening was conducted in three thirty-minute sessions per week for six weeks (18 sessions). We used the Canadian Occupation Performance Measure (COPM) to evaluate changes in the participants' occupational performance between pre- and post-intervention. We used Fisher's Auditory Problems Checklist (FAPC) to observe changes in behavioral problems related to hearing. The Child Attention Scale for Teacher (CAST) was used to evaluate changes in attention. Results : No significant differences pre- and post-intervention between the two groups were observed. The participants' auditory behavioral problems improved significantly in the experimental group, but no significant difference was found between the two groups. There was no significant difference in attention between the two groups, but there was a significant difference between the two groups in the "adaptability" and "emotion" domains (p < .05). Conclusion : The results suggest that therapeutic listening training has a positive effect on reducing problematic behaviors related to hearing and improving the occupational performance of children with sensory modulation disorder. This study provides a basis for improving the sensory processing ability of children with sensory modulation disorder by applying listening training in the clinical field and at home.

Effects of Self-monitoring on Initiating Speech Behavior of the Hearing-impaired Preschoolers (자기점검법이 청각장애 유아의 자발적인 말시작 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of self-monitoring on spontaneously initiating speech behavior of the hearing-impaired preschoolers. Three hearing-impaired preschoolers were selected from a special school for the deaf. They showed some vocalizations and words under intensive instruction settings, but never spontaneously spoke as a means of communication. Multiple probe design was applied in this study. During the self-monitoring intervention, each child was trained to assess whether his own initiating speech behavior was occurred or not, and then record his own behavior's occurrence on the self-recording sheets and self-graphing sheets. The vibration of handphone was used as a tactile cue for self-monitoring. The results of the present study were as follows: (1) self-monitoring significantly increased the percentage of occurrence of spontaneously initiating speech behaviors. (2) Increased level of spontaneously initiating speech behavior were generalized into another natural instruction (cognitive) settings. (3) Increased level of spontaneously initiating speech behavior were maintained after four weeks from the termination of the intervention.

Cross-sectional perception studies of children's monosyllabic word by naive listeners (일반 청자의 아동 발화 단음절에 대한 교차 지각 분석)

  • Previous studies have provided important findings on children's speech production development. They have revealed that essentially all aspects of children's speech shift toward adult-like characteristics over time. Nevertheless, few studies have examined the perceptual aspects of children's speech tokens, as perceived by naive adult listeners. To fill the gap between children's production and adults' perception, we conducted cross-sectional perceptual studies of monosyllabic words produced by children aged two to six years. Monosyllabic words in the consonant-vowel-consonant form were extracted from children's speech samples and presented aurally to five listener groups (20 listeners in total). Generally, the agreement rate between children's production of target words and adult listeners' responses increases with age. The perceptual responses to tokens produced by two-year old children induced the largest discrepancies and the responses to words produced by six years olds agreed the most. Further analyses were conducted to identify the sources of disagreement, including the types of segments and syllable structure. This study makes an important contribution to our understanding of the development and perception of children's speech across age groups.
