A Study on the Accurate Stopping Control of a Train for the Urban Rail Transit Using Kalman Filter (칼만 필터를 이용한 도시철도 열차 정위치 정차에 관한 연구)

  • Accurate stopping control is important for trains, especially now that many train stations are equipped with platform screen doors. Various algorithms have been proposed for accurate stopping control. However, most metro trains in South Korea use classic control algorithms such as PID control because other algorithms are too complex to realize. PID control has merits of simple structure and operation. However, PID control sometimes fails, and much time is needed to find the proper coefficients due to the long control period and the brake delay. We propose a control algorithm that uses a Kalman filter. The Kalman filter estimates the states at the time when braking starts. Then, a suitable control input is derived for proper control. System modeling and a computer simulation were performed with consideration of the brake properties and the period of the control system. The superiority of the proposed control algorithm is shown by analyzing stop errors.

A Study on User's Awareness of Subway Environment Shape Objects in Metropolitan Cities (광역시 지하철 환경조형물에 대한 이용자 의식분석 연구)

  • Environmental shape objects not only play a part as various cultural facilities but also symbolize local unique culture beyond the limit of functional role. Therefore subway environmental shape objects should be approached in terms of public installations and art and should be designed to accommodate and meet the needs of subway users appropriately. In order to find out what subway users think about environment shape objects in subway stations, the factors that can evaluate awareness and preference for environment shape objects and visual image of environment shape objects were examined and analyzed. Positive elements were shown with regard to environment shape objects a lot but it is judged that visual quality of subway environment can be deteriorated if environment shape objects do not harmonize with the characteristics of station environment.

  • The LTE-R system is a system consisting of a packet network that provides all IP-based services. Continuous failures related to the platform safety gate and subsequent safety accidents related to passengers and safety gate workers continue. The secondary damage caused by the failure of the platform safety door and the related human life damage have emerged as a major social issue.. By linking the beacon system to the Long Term Evoluton-Railway (LTE-R) network, an LTE-based railway wireless network currently in operation or being installed, it precisely locates trains and provides standardized fault alerts to train crews. When entering into the station, ultimately we will decelerate the train and reduce the accidents of metropolitabn railroad traffic by securing safe driving.

The Spatial Correlation of Mode Choice Behavior based on Smart Card Transit Data in Seoul (교통카드 자료를 이용한 서울시 지역별 대중교통 수단 선택 공간상관성 분석)

  • In this study, we provide empirical evidence of whether a spatial correlation among mode choices at the TAZ(Traffic Analysis Zone) level exists based on transit smart card data observed in Seoul, Korea. The results show that the areas with a higher probability that passengers choose to take a bus are clustered and that those regions have fewer metro stations than bus stations. We also found that the spatial correlation turned out to be statistically meaningful and provided an opportunity for the potential use of the spatial correlation in modeling mode choices. A reliable spatial interaction would constitute valuable information for transportation agencies in terms of their route planning and scheduling based on the transit smart card data.

  • This study will analyze what is favorable of urban structure in order to introduce new transit system like bi-modal tram. As a reasonable transport mode in a city, the bi-modal tram needs to be considered with respect to the space structural pattern and city growth process. The result of this study may provide the basic resource that helps transport decision makers to decide how to introduce bi-modal tram by considering the urban structural characteristics. Also, the results that analyzed a functional characteristic of a bi-modal tram with a effective urban polices will be informative for practical use.

Development of Dynamic Simulator for Light Rail Transit Depot (경량전철 차량기지 동적 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • Recently, in the era of low carbon and green growth, the importance of railway transportation is being emphasized However, there is a lack of research on simulation for railway depot. This paper presents the development of the dynamic simulator for LRT(Light Rail Transit) depot. This study presents explanations of requirement analysis, architecture, database design, simulation algorithm, and design and development of the simulation tool. The dynamic LRT depot simulation tool consists of four modules; a Network Editor to create and modify information regarding railroad, train, signal, turnout, job and station, a Simulator to calculate train movement algorithm, a Reporter to show simulation results in table and graphs, and an Animator to animate simulation results dynamically. It is hoped that this study on general details of structure, design and development of LRT depot dynamic simulator will perform as a good reference to future development of new simulation tools.

  • Recently, indoor location detection has become an important area in the IoT (Internet of Things) environment for various indoor location-based services. In this paper, our proposed method shows that a virtual region can be divided electromagnetically according to specific facilities or services in various IoT application areas called zones. The MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) method is applied to recognize the service zone at the current position. The MLP utilized an RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) signal of the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) Beacon as input data and made decisions to affiliate the zone of the current region as output. In order to verify the proposed method, we constructed an experimental environment similar in size to an actual rail station using four of the beacon and two zones.

Study on the Application of the Fenton Oxidation Method for Remediation of Small-scale Oil-contaminated Ballasts on Railroad Track (선로 내 소규모 유류오염도상자갈 정화를 위한 펜톤산화법의 적용성 연구)

  • In this study, Fenton oxidation was applied to railroad track ballasts contaminated with small amounts of oil. In order to perform the experiment on Fenton oxidation, petroleum contaminated ballast was collected from the railroad track and experiments on major factors of the remediation process were implemented in the laboratory. Then, the feasibility of insitu Fenton oxidation was investigated for the railroad track that was partially contaminated with oil. As a result, the residual TPH concentration of ballast was reduced to about 1,000 mg/kg-ballast in laboratory experiments using 0.1 mol Fe/L $H_2O_2$. Due to the drainage structure of the track bed, a considerable amount of $H_2O_2$ was released below the ballast without the sufficient reaction with the contaminated ballast; therefore, additional studies are necessary for the effective field application of Fenton oxidation.

Design and Implementation of Beacon based Wireless Sensor Network for Realtime Safety Monitoring in Subway Stations (지하철 역사에서 실시간 안전 모니터링 위한 비컨 기반의 무선 센서 네트워크 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we proposed new sensor network architecture with autonomous robots based on beacon mode and implemented real time monitoring system in real test-bed environment. The proposed scheme offers beacon based real-time scheduling for reliable association process with parent nodes and dynamically assigns network address by using NAA (Next Address Assignment) mechanism. For the large scale multi-sensor processing, our real-time monitoring system accomplished the intelligent database processing, which can generate not only the alert messages to the civilians but also process various sensing data such as fire, air, temperature and etc. Moreover, we also developed mobile robot which can support network mobility. Though the performance evaluation by using real test-bed system, we illustrate that our proposed system demonstrates promising performance for emergence monitoring systems.

Development of Simulation Technology Based on 3D Indoor Map for Analyzing Pedestrian Convenience (보행 편의성 분석을 위한 3차원 실내지도 기반의 시뮬레이션 기술 개발)

  • Increasing transportation dependence on the metro system has lead to the convenience of passengers becoming as important as the transportation capacity. In this study, a pedestrian simulator has been developed that can quantitatively assess the pedestrian environment in terms of attributes such as speed and distance. The simulator consists of modules designed for 3D indoor map authoring and algorithmic pedestrian modeling. Module functions for 3D indoor map authoring include 3D spatial modeling, network generation, and evaluation of obtained results. The pedestrian modeling algorithm executes functions such as conducting a path search, allocation of users, and evaluation of level of service (LOS). The primary objective behind developing the said functions is to apply and analyze various scenarios repeatedly, such as before and after the improvement of the pedestrian environment, and to integrate the spatial information database with the dynamic information database. Furthermore, to demonstrate the practical applicability of the proposed simulator in the future, a test-bed was constructed for a currently operational metro station and the quantitative index of the proposed improvement effect was calculated by analyzing the walking speed of pedestrians before and after the improvement of the passage. The possibility of database extension for further analysis has also been discussed in this study.
