Refinement of Low-grade Clay using Iron-reducing Bacteria [II] : Removal Characteristics of Iron Impurity from Various Porcelain Clays (철환원세균을 이용한 저품위 점토의 개량 [II] : 도자기 점토 종류별 철불순물 제거 특성)

  • Using three types of porcelain clays such as White, Blue, and Yellow clays, which were used as raw materials for Bae씨a, C Chungja, and common porcelains, the biological refinement by an enrichment culture of iron reducing bacteria was studied. | In the biological clay refining, amounts of leached iron increased as increasing sucrose $\infty$ncentration, which was s supplemented as a carbon and electron donor source for cell growth and iron reduction. Total amounts of the leached iron a and specific rate of iron reduction were dependent on the types of the clay. Strength and chromaticity of refined clays which a are important properties required for porcelain clays were improved as increasing sucrose concentration. The degree of s shrinking, however, did not changed. the redness among the chromaticity of refined clays is favorably reduced through the r ripening by the iron reducing bacteria. Considering iron removal efficiency and the change of physical properties, the optimal c concentration of sucrose was 4%(w/w) in the clay.

Application of Iron Sand as Adsorbent for the Removal of Heavy Metal (중금속 제거용 흡착제로서의 철광사 적용)

  • Iron sand, having iron as a major component, was applied in the treatment of synthetic wastewater containing Cu(II) or Pb(II). To investigate the stability of iron sand at acidic condition, dissolution of Fe and Al was studied with variation of solution pH ranging from 2 to 4.5. Iron concentration in the extracted solution was below the emission regulation of wastewater even at a strong acidic condition, pH 2. Although an important concentration of aluminum was extracted at pH 2, the dissolution greatly decreased above pH 3. This stability test suggests that application of iron sand has little problem in the treatment of wastewater above pH 3. Adsorption capacity of Cu(II) and Pb(II) onto iron sand was investigated in a batch and a column test. In case of Cu(II), rapid adsorption was noted, showing 50% removal within 2 hrs, and then reached a near complete equilibrium after 24 hrs. Adsorption was favorable at higher pH in each metal ion and showed a near complete removal above pH 6, indicating a typical cationic-type adsorption. From the adsorption isotherm obtained with variation of the concentration of each metal ion, the maximum adsorption capacity of Cu(II) and Pb(II) was identified as 2,170 mg/kg 및 3,450 mg/kg, respectively.

  • 철(II)이온을 안정화 하기위하여, 2산화 규소와, 구상, 입방체상 및 침상의 서로 다른형태의 산화 제2철로부터 규산철을 합성하였다. 메타놀증기로 포화시킨 질소까스를 튜브로에 도입시켜 얻은 환원성 분위기속에서, 114$0^{\circ}C$에서 11$65^{\circ}C$의 온도범위에서, 가스유속을 0.13 및 0.25l/min. 로서, 환원시간 4-150분동안 교상반응을 진행하였다. 반응생성의 동태를 오르자트 가스분석으로 검토하였으며, 생성물의 확인은 X-선 회절시험 및 감량정량에 의하였으며, 결과는 다음과 같다. 1 : 1.1의 몰비로 혼합한 산화제2철과 2산화 규소의 경우, 가스유속이 0.13l/min일 때, 규산철 합성반응시간은 구상, 입방체상 및 침상산화철에 있어서 각기 8-27분, 10-16분 및 6-7분으로 구상의 경우가 범위가 가장 넓었다. 또한, 반응속도는 산화제2철의 표면적의 평방근에 비례하였고 반응시간의 평방근에 역비례하였다.

Application of Reverse Osmosis Plate and Frame Type for Separation and Concentration Heavy Metal[Cu(II), Zn(II)] (중금속[Cu(II), Zn(II)]의 분리 및 농축을 위한 역삼투 판틀형 모듈의 적용)

  • This study was focused on experiment for the separation and concentration process of Cu(II), Zn(II) solution with the variation of applied pressure and concentration using reverse osmosis plate and frame modules. Rejection coefficient and degree of concentration for Cu(II) component using single and multi-stage reverse osmosis process were showed 96.3~97.8%, 0.044~0.191(in single-stage), 96.3~98.4%, 0.400~2.264(in multi-stage) within the range of experimental condition, respectively. Those of Zn(II) were 93.3~97.1%, 0.019~0.395(in single-stage), 96.3~98.2%, 0.365~1.454(in multi-stage), respectively. Degree of concentration of multi-stage were higher than those of single-stage. Heavy metal[Cu(II), Zn(II)] separation was very efficient in using reverse osmosis plate and frame type modules. Separation efficiency for a mixed solution Cu(II) and Zn(II) was higher than those of each one of Cu(II) and Zn(II).

  • Zevo-valent iron (ZVI) has been widely used in permeable reactive barriers for reducing organic contaminants, such as trichloroethylene (TCE). The rapid reaction time, however, leads to decrease in reactivity and availability of ZVI. Shewanella algae BrY, a strain of dissimilatory iron reducing bacteria, can reduce the oxidized Fe (III) to Fe (II) and reduced Fe (II) can be reused to reduce the contaminant. The effect of Shewanella algae BrY on the reduction of the oxidized ZVI column and further TCE removal in the contaminated groundwater were studied at different flow rates and TCE input concentrations in this study. High input concentration of TCE and flow rate increase the amount of input contaminant and make to lower the effect of reduction by Shewanella algae BrY. Specially, the fast flow rate inhibits the direct contact and implantation on the surface of iron. The reduction of oxidized iron reactive barrier by Shewanella algae BrY can decrease the decreation of duration of PRBs by the precipitation of oxidized iron produced by dechlorination of TCE.

  • Diethanolamine Dithiocarbamate containing OH groups which gave water-soluble [Pt(dtc)$_{2}$] (diethanolamine dithiocarbamate) were synthesized from the reaction of CS$_{2}$ with diethanolamine. The complex has been characterized by elemental analysis, electrical conductivity, and spectroscopic results. Diethanolamine dithiocarbamate is effective as rescue and inhibition of cis-[$Pt(NH_{3})_{2}Cl_{2}$] nephrotoxicity in rats. It is suggested that diethanolamine dithiocarbamare removes platinum(II) complex coordinated to -SH groups of protein of kidney tubule cells.
