This article intends to locate the logical basis to apply bibliotherapy as a library service in Korean libraries. To the end, investigated and discussed are the historical relationship between bibliotherapy and RAS(readers' advisory service), and the theoretical base and practical experiences that enabled bibliotherapy to be practical in the U.S. library community. This article introduces a concept of 'therapeutic' RAS as a similar concept to 'developmental' bibliotherapy, and suggests the roles of a librarian as a therapist, based on the "Zones of Intervention" by Carol Kuhlthau.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the of multimedia university library system theoretical models and to design partial functions of this model using multimedia toolbook 3.0. The theoretical model is constructed based on several operating systems such as JANUS Virtual Library and The Book House. Knowledge base of the designed system is constructed by interviewing reference librarians. The designed system consists of six modules : Reference Expert system. Journal Browsing, Multimedia Database, OPAC, External Database and User' s Guide. Finally, four problems are discussed as several major problems in building up multimedia university library network

The spectrum of values stretches from intrinsic value to practical value, consisting of exchange value and use value. Because of its own nature and perspective in assessing information, there are some problems of assessing its value. As a framework of assessing value of lnformation, Taylor developed the value-added model of information. Although the model has sl~ortcomings which do not apply measures and scales to mformation value, it can be a framework in assessing the value of mformation.

The purpose of this study is to revitalize library service by examining how public and medical libraries provide health and medical information services. For this purpose, we conducted a survey of the two library types, and the results are as follows. First, more than 50% of the questions public librarians were termed "immediate answer" questions, while more than 80% of the questions medical librarians receive take up to a few days' time to answer. Public librarians were more likely to comment on the limitations of their expertise and information resources as compared to the medical librarians. Second, public librarians use mainly medical journals and websites for answering users' requests. However, medical librarians used, in almost the same ratio, all types of information resources represented in the survey questions. Third, when asking about health/medical-related training contents for performing their tasks, public and medical librarians are highly interested in all information about all health-related issues. However, while medical librarians showed high interest in all subject areas, public librarians most preferred well-being related education topics such as Information on diet and nutrition, Information about exercise and fitness, and information on quitting smoking.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the structure, and contents of the US national school library standards presented in the document National School Library Standards for Learner, Librarian and School Libraries made by AASL, and to provide basic information to refer to the direction and contents of Korean school library standards. AASL's National School Library Standards provide Learner Standards, School Librarian Standards, School Library Standards and Standards Integrated Frameworks that incorporate three previous standards, and emphasize the growth of learners and school librarians' competency by focusing on the educational activities of learners and school librarians. With the physical environment of the school library being somewhat established, it is necessary to establish standards for the educational content and competency of learners and teachers. And it is necessary to pay more attention to the materials including the contents of education.

The study aims to derive major factors from the results of needs analysis to develop the reference service model and guidelines at the national level. The literature review and case study enabled investigation of the considerations to develop the reference service model and guidelines. The Needs Analysis revealed librarians' and users' needs about the reference service. The major factors and implications derived from the analysis suggest the directions of the National-level reference service model and guidelines development process. This study has significance because it presented the implications and the development process of the reference service model and guidelines for domestic libraries, and directly contributed to the development of the reference service model and guidelines for the National Library of Korea.

This study was designed to derive and propose the qualities, qualifications, duties, etc. needed for policy information librarians who work in the policy-related special libraries. To do this, literature related to professional librarians was analyzed comprehensively with respect to qualifications, qualities, duties presented and needed in domestic and international jobs sites. The information derived through this process was developed into a questionnaire and a survey conducted targeting as subjects specialized librarians in related fields. The results indicated that the highest required LIS degree for both policy information librarian and for policy related fields is a Master's Degree. Additionally in investigating the importance of related career experience required for a policy information librarian, work related to policies reference services appeared to be the most important. On the issue of important qualities required of a policy information librarian, 'outstanding policies related data navigation capabilities' was the highest, followed by 'knowledge of information policy and knowledge of policy related resources', 'knowledge of the current trends of policies related fields', and 'smooth interpersonal skills.' The survey also indicated that with respect to the duties of the information librarian planning of policy information services had the highest score, followed by the providing of policies information services, and then collection management.

This paper outlines the concept of real time reference service(RTRS). Then, it analyzes real time reference service in the 13 libraries for effective reference service. As a result, the most used software was AOL instant Messenger, followed by Conference Room from WebMaster, and LivePerson. Hours of service was generally same as reference desk hours. The users were Students. faculty, staff, and alumni, This study also demonstrated how the RTRS in LC works. The results showed that real time reference was able to response to patrons quickly for reference questions with interactive method.

Academic library 2.0 which is adapted from Web 2.0 is expected to reform library services. This study analysed the librarian's tasks in the new environment of academic library 2.0 to provide a base of new task development that combined traditional and new works. The analysing of a librarian's tasks resulted in some changes to the concept of traditional tasks like that of : 'Collection Development and Acquisitions' changed to 'Resource Development', 'Cataloging and Classification' changed to 'Technical Development', 'Circulation' changed to 'Information Literacy'. 'Reference Work' changed to 'Service Development', 'Preservation' changed to 'Archiving'. The Tasks of a Librarian is expanding and the important issues for 'Expanding the Professional Role of the Librarian' are cooperation, educational culture and technological ability.

Research has taken priority of many activities in universities and it has eventually brought the heat on research support services of libraries to meet high expectation of university researchers. To identify the major content areas and service methods of research guides serviced through digital libraries of universities, this study investigated research guides of 60 university libraries in North America and Korea. As a result, 13 categories for research guide contents were identified and 5 crucial areas for the contents development were suggested. It also analyzed providing methods of online research guides and communicating methods between librarians and users. Librarians were identified as the prime human resource to develope and manage research guides, which will play an important role in expanding diversity of librarians' roles in the future.
