Fundamental Experiment on the Flow Characteristics inside the Exhaust Duct of Cone Calorimeter (콘 칼로리미터의 배기 덕트 내부 유동 특성 기초 실험)

  • In this study, the mass flow rate of the heat release rate equation, which is the major factor of the oxygen consumption method, was analyzed for the fundamental investigation of the cone-calorimeter (5 m length and 0.3 m diameter). The shapes of a completely empty inside, 3 mm pore diameter mesh and pore diameter 10 mm honeycomb with 0.76 porosity were constructed using the cone-calorimeter. To calculate the mass flow rate, four bi-directional probes and thermocouples were installed in a uniform position in the vertical direction of flow. The velocity gradient and flow perturbation were measured from the increase in Reynolds number. As the flow capacity increased, the speed gradient increased in all three shapes relative to the turbulence intensity. In addition, the deviation of extended uncertainty to the mass flow was completely low in the order of empty space, mesh (dp = 3 mm) and honeycomb (dp = 10 mm and 𝜖 = 0.76) at the 95% confidence level. The results can be used in designs to improve the flow stability of the cone calorimeter.

Strength Properties of Porous Concrete Containing Natural Fine Aggregate and Bottom Ash Aggregate (천연 잔골재와 바텀애시 골재를 활용한 다공성 콘크리트의 강도 특성)

  • In this paper, the strength properties of porous concrete containing natural fine aggregates and bottom ash aggregates were investigated, The material properties of natural fine aggregates and bottom ash were identified then used as aggregates for porous concrete. The water-binder ratio was constant at 0.25, and the com paction level of 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 MPa was applied to produce a porous concrete specimen. Test of unit weight, ultrasonic velocity, compressive strength, and flexural tensile strength were perform ed and analyzed. The unit weight, ultrasonic velocity, com pressive strength, and flexural tensile strength increased as the compaction level increased and also the replacement rate of bottom ash with sand(fine aggregate) increased. In addition, through regression analysis, the correlation between the unit weight, compressive strength, and flexural tensile strength of bottom ash porous concrete was presented. Unit weight and strength properties are proportional to each other and showed an increasing correlation. In addition, the correlation coefficient (R2) value of regression analysis was calculated based on the experimental results of this study and those of other research papers.

  • In Korea, the current design codes for the bridge vessel collision load are based on AASHTO LRFD code which derived from the mean collision forces of the Woisin's test. To estimate the conservativeness of the code, in this study, the mean forces of head on collisions were evaluated from the mass-acceleration relationship of vessel and the deformation-kinetic energy relationship of bow those obtained from the series of nonlinear finite element analysis, and the mean forces were compared to that in AASHTO design code. As results, the variations of the mean forces versus the sizes of vessels were represented similar tendency, even those of the code are very conservative. However, the variations of mean collision force versus those of collision speeds were dominated by the plastic deformation of bow and it was differ from those of the code that have linear relationship with the collision speeds.

The hydration resistance improvement of MgO ceramics by $TiO_2$ addition ($TiO_2$ 첨가에 의한 MgO 세라믹스의 표현 수화 저항성 향상)

  • The effect of $TiO_2$addition on the hydration reaction of MgO ceramics were studied after being heated at $1450^{\circ}C$. The pure MgO ceramics showed significant weight change after exposure to water due to the hydration reaction through the formation of $Mg(OH)_2$while $TiO_2$-added MgO ceramics did not. The $Mg_2TiO_4$phase were observed in the $TiO_2$-added MgO ceramics sintered at 145$0^{\circ}C$. Bulk density increased as the amount of $TiO_2$increased and the apparent porosity and water absorption decreased by $TiO_2$addition. The hydration resistance of MgO ceramics was found to be improved by $TiO_2$addition.

Experimental study on Effects of POE oil on R134a Evaporation Heat Transfer in Plate Heat Exchanger (판형열교환기에서 POE오일이 R134a 증발 열전달에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • To investigate the effect of oil on evaporation heat transfer of plate heat exchanger, evaporation heat transfer experiment was carried out using experimental apparatus for micro gear pumped R134a-oil circulation. By varying oil circulation rate of POE oil from 0 to 5%, evaporation heat transfer performance of plate heat exchanger was investigated. As OCR(Oil Circulation Ratio) increases, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R134a decreases and pressure drop increases. When the evaporating temperature is $30^{\circ}C$ and the refrigerant mass flow rate is 80 g/s, evaporation heat transfer rate decreases by 10 % and pressure drop increases by 10% at 2% of OCR condition.

  • Owing to the increasing worldwide interest in green technology and renewable energy sources, flywheel energy storage systems (FESSs) are gaining importance as a viable alternative to traditional battery systems. Since the energy storage capacity of an FESS is proportional to the principal mass-moment of inertia and the square of the running speed, a design that maximizes the principal inertia while operatingrunning at the highest possible speed is important. However, the requirements for the stability of the system may impose a constraint on the optimal design. In this paper, an optimal design of an FESS that not only maximizes the energy capacity but also satisfies the requirements for system stability and reduces the sensitivity to external disturbances is proposed. Cross feedback control in combination with a conventional proportional-derivative (PD) controller is essential to reduce the effect of gyroscopic coupling and to increase the stored energy and the specific energy density.

  • 하천에서 점착성 유사의 부유사는 입자 표면의 전자기적, 생화학적 점착력과 충돌에 의해 플럭(Floc)을 형성하고 응집된 플럭은 하천의 흐름 및 난류에 의해 파괴되기도 한다. 이 과정을 응집현상이라고 한다. 하천의 점착성 유사는 보통 플럭의 형태를 띠며 응집현상으로 인해 플럭의 밀도와 크기는 지속적으로 변화한다. 일반적으로 변화하는 플럭의 크기는 높은 질량 농도에서 증가한다고 알려져 있다(McAnally and Mehta, 2000; Maggi et al., 2007). 하지만 현장 연구에서 실측된 자료들은 종종 플럭의 크기와 농도가 반비례 관계를 가지는 경향을 보여준다(Gartner et al., 2001; Fettweis et al., 2006; Todd, 2014). 이에 따라 본 연구는 현장의 실측 자료가 일반적인 연구와 다르게 플럭의 크기와 농도가 반비례 관계를 가지는 현상을 규명하기 위해 점착성 유사의 이동을 모의하는 1차원 연직 수치 모형으로 수치 실험을 실시하고 그 결과를 분석한다. 수치 실험은 현장연구와 조건이 비슷한 이상적인 조류조건과 정류상태의 한 방향 흐름(Current Flow)을 함께 발생시키고 점착성 유사의 특징인 응집현상을 고려하였다. 모의 결과, 실측 자료와 같이 총 모의 수심 중 하상과 가까운 측정 수심에서는 플럭의 크기와 농도가 반비례 관계를 가지는 경향을 보였다. 그러나 측정 수심이 수표면 쪽으로 갈수록 플럭 크기와 농도가 비례하는 현상을 보였다. 이와 같이 서로 다른 두 가지 결과를 분석하기 위해 플럭의 크기를 결정하는 대표적인 매개변수인 농도와 난류의 강도를 나타내는 난류소산매개변수(Turbulent shear, G)를 가지고 새로운 매개변수를 만들었다. 플럭의 크기를 결정하는 방정식에서 농도는 응집의 과정에 G는 응집과 파괴의 과정에 관여한다고 알려져 있다. 새로운 매개변수로 총 모의 수심에 걸쳐 분석한 결과 하상에서 수표면 쪽으로 갈 때 난류와 농도 모두 줄어들지만 파괴와 응집의 우세를 나타내는 매개변수가 도치되는 현상을 보였다. 즉 하상부근의 강한 난류와 높은 농도가 응집현상을 만들지만 농도는 응집현상에, 난류는 응집과 파괴 모두 관여하므로 상대적으로 농도와 난류가 만들어내는 응집보다 난류가 만드는 파괴가 강할 때 플럭의 크기가 줄어드는 것으로 예측된다. 이에 따라 점착성 유사의 플럭 크기를 예측할 때에는 플럭의 크기가 농도와 선형의 관계를 가지는 것이 아닌 농도와 난류가 함께 작용하는 비선형 관계임을 고려해야 한다.

Control of Pressure and Thrust for a Variable Thrust Solid Propulsion System Using Linearization (선형화 기법을 이용한 가변추력 고체추진 기관의 압력 및 추력 제어)

  • Solid propulsion systems have simple structures compared to other propulsion systems and are suitable for long-term storage. However the systems generally have limits on control of thrust levels. In this paper we suggest control algorithms for combustion chamber pressure of variable thrust solid propulsion systems using special nozzles such as pintle valve. For the pressure control within the chamber, we use a simple pressure change model by considering only mass conservation within the combustion chamber, design a classical algorithm and also a nonlinear controller using the feedback linearization technique. Also we derive the equation of the thrust for an under-expanded one-dimensional nozzle and then design a proportional-intergral controller after linearizing the thrust model for an operating point. Finally, we demonstrate the performance of the controller through a numerical simulation.

Stability Analysis of a Haptic System with a Human Impedance model using the Routh-Hurwitz Criterion (루드-후르비쯔 (Routh-Hurwitz) 안정성 판별법을 이용한 인간의 임피던스가 포함된 햅틱 시스템의 안정성 분석)

  • This paper presents the stability analysis of the haptic system including a human impedance using the Routh-Hurwitz criterion. The reflective force is computed from a virtual spring model and is transferred to a human operator using the first-order-hold method. The stability boundary conditions are induced and the relation among a virtual spring ($K_w$), the mass ($M_h$), the damping ($B_h$) and the stiffness ($K_h$) of a human impedance is analyzed. Hence the stability boundary of the virtual spring ($K_w$) is proposed as $K_w{\leq}54413{\sqrt{(M_h+M_d)(B_h+B_d)}}-0.486K_h$ when the sampling time is 1 ms. The average relative error is about 0.5% when the mathematical analysis results are compared with the results of the stability boundary model.

  • The heat flowrate and pressure drop of $CO_2$ in a multi-tube-in-tube helical coil type gas cooler were investigated experimentally. The mass flowrate of $CO_2$ and coolant were varied from 0.06 to 0.075 [kg/s], respectively and the cooling pressure of gas cooler were from 8 to 10 [MPa]. The heat flowrate of $CO_2$ in the test section is increased with the increase in mass flowrate of coolant, the cooling pressure and mass flowrate of $CO_2$. The pressure drop of $CO_2$ is decreased with the decrease in mass flowrate of coolant and $CO_2$, but decreased with increase in cooling pressure of $CO_2$. The heat flowrate of $CO_2$ in the multi-tube-in-tube helical coil type gas cooler is greatly higher than that of $CO_2$ in the double pipe type gas cooler, while the pressure drop of $CO_2$ in the multi-tube-in-tube helical coil type gas cooler is greatly lower than that of $CO_2$ in the double pipe type gas cooler. Therefore, in case of the application of $CO_2$ at the multi-tube-in-tube helical coil type gas cooler, it is expected to carry out the high-efficiency, high-performance and compactness of gas cooler.
