  • The purpose of this study is to identify the latent classes depending on trajectories of intrinsic and extrinsic work values amongst college students and to test the effects of gender, socioeconomic status, academic achievement and career maturity on determining the latent classes. The results indicated that intrinsic and extrinsic work values, respectively, have two types of latent classes. The latent classes were defined as a increasing group(29.4%) and a slight decreasing group(70.8%) in intrinsic work values, a slight decreasing group(18.1%) and a increasing group(81.9%) in extrinsic work values. It was also found that the higher academic achievement levels were more likely to belong to the increasing group in intrinsic work values, male college students were more likely to belong to the increasing group in extrinsic work values, and the higher socioeconomic status were more likely to belong to the increasing group in extrinsic work values. The findings of this study can enrich future research into career counseling and education of college students and provide basic data for the strategies and intervention of career counseling. Both the implications and limitations of this study were also discussed, along with suggestions for future research.

Also, This study explored whether the development of career aspiration differs by gender. Structural equation modeling results provided support for the mediating effects of personal self-esteem and collective self-esteem, In addition, the relationship model differed by gender. The results showed that the full mediation model fit of collective self-esteem in the relationship between individual self-esteem and career aspiration was better than the partial mediation model fit. Next, in the relation of social support and career aspiration, the partial mediating effect of individual self-esteem and collective self esteem was significant. Lastly, when the model of social support, individual self-esteem, and collective self-esteem, and career aspiration was tested to examine gender differences, the relations among these variables were found to be different according to gender-difference. These results suggest that evaluations and perceptions on the individual's social group as well as the individual influedced to career aspiration, interacting with the environmental factors. Also, the gender-difference of relationship model indicates that it might be different from men and women in psychological mechanism in the career aspiration formation.

The participants were divided into 5 latent classes such as; 'Relative self-satisfaction', 'Social contentment', 'Relative deprived', 'Fairness trust' and 'Fairness distrust'. According to the results of MANOVA analysis to figure out if there are differences in career transitions, perceiving a calling, and working as meaning depending on latent classes, significant differences were appeared among latent classes. Finally, multinominal logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine whether demographic characteristics and 'decent work' affect the latent group classification. As a result, the more 'decent work', the higher the probability of belonging to the class with high BJW and social class. On the basis of the results of this study, the implications on the case conceptualization and counseling strategy for adults focusing on BJW and Social class in adults and future research were discussed.
