  • This study aims to investigate the mediating effect of outcome expectation in the relationship between strengths knowledge and career adaptability for nursing students. The participants of this study were 284 nursing students in three Universities in G City, J Province. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis. Also mediation analysis was performed according to the Baron and Kenny method and Sobel test.. Career adaptability is positively correlated with strengths knowledge(r=.61, p<.001), outcome expectation(r=.55, p<.001), and strengths knowledge is positively correlated with outcome expectation(r=.41, p<.001). The outcome expectation showed a partial mediating effect between the strengths knowledge and the career adaptability(Z=3.85, p<.001). The positive the strengths knowledge(𝛽=.44, p<.001), the higher the outcome expectation(𝛽=.33, p<.001), the higher the career adaptability level, and the explanatory power to explain career adaptability was 50%. Therefore, in order to improve the career adaptability of nursing students, it suggests that it is necessary not only to recognize strengths with positive thinking about individuals, but also to improve attitudes to form desirable outcome expectations at the same time.

  • As an effort to further extend the existing understanding on the Psychology of Working Theory, this study examined gender differences in the paths to the attainment of decent work with Korean emerging adults. A total of 311 South Korean employees (mean age = 25.96, men = 94, women = 217) completed online questionnaires. We found that economic constraints inversely predicted work volition and career adaptability, which were positively relatedin turn, led to decent work. The overall indirect effect of work volition and career adaptability between economic constraints and decent work was significant., hHowever, the specific indirect effect of work volition and career adaptability was not significant. Further analyses showed a gender difference in the paths. Specifically, economic constraint was significantly negatively associated with work volition, and work volition predicted decent work only for women, but not for men. Moreover, economic constraint was significantly inversely associated with career adaptability, and career adaptability positively predicted decent work only for men, but not for women. Work volition mediated between economic constraints and decent work for women, while career adaptability had a mediating effect for men. It suggests that career resources for obtaining a decent work may be distinctive by genderdifferent groups.

  • In this study, we examined the effects of University adaptation on career adaptation through self-leadership and learning commitment, and identified the regulatory effects of demographic characteristics (sex, grade, grade level, and willingness to work). To this end, we analyzed the data for 289 college students. The results of the study are as follows. First, adaptation to University life has a significant impact on learning commitment and self-leadership. However, adaptation to University life has an indirect effect on learning commitment and self-leadership rather than directly affecting career adaptation. Second, demographic characteristics have a regulatory effect on the path through which University adaptation affects career adaptation through self-leadership and learning commitment. The factors that were regulated were age, grade, and willingness to work. Therefore, in order to adapt to university life and adapt to career, we developed a program to improve self-leadership and learning commitment, and suggested that customized guidance is needed considering the differences in personal characteristics such as gender and academic background in university life and career counseling.

  • Only a few studies have investigated the influence of career calling on career adaptability and the mechanisms behind this relationship, so this investigated how the search for and presence of meaning, the two elements of meaning in life, affect this relationship. 247 Participants completed a survey on career calling, career adaptability, the search for meaning and the presence of meaning. Correlational analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between the research variables. A serial multiple mdediating effects test was conducted to test the proposed mediating effects. Finally, a bootstrapping procedure was used with SPSS Macro to test the significance of the indirect effects. The results were as follows: First, career calling was positively related with career adaptability. Second, the search for and presence of meaning both partially mediated the relationship between career calling and career adaptability. This result implies that the search for meaning alone can lead to positive outcomes, such as increasing career adaptability, a result not found in previous studies. Third, the relationship between career calling and career adaptability was sequentially mediated by the search for meaning and the presence of meaning. This paper ends with a discussion of implications of this study's results in clinical practice and this study's limitations.
