  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the major satisfaction and parents' career support on the behavior of career preparation among university students and to presents basic data for making active the behavior of career preparation. A survey was held to the university students in Seoul and Chungcheong cities from April 15 to May 14, 2021 195 copies were in the final analysis for data analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and Multiple regression was used. As a result, the factors of affecting on the behavior of career preparation were followed by Economic level, Major category, Motivation of the major, Grade, the major satisfaction and parents' career support. The multiple regression explanatory power was 50.5percent of the total changes in the behavior of career preparation. Therefore, this study could be used as a basic data for the development of education programs through increase the major satisfacton and enhance parents career support in order to the active behavior of career preparation.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between career decision-making self-efficacy, character strength, and gratitude as a factor influencing the happy life of adults. Subjects were 89 adults in university and graduate school. SPSS 23.0 and PROCESS Macro were used for data analysis. Significant correlations were found between career decision-making self-efficacy, character strength, gratitude, and happy life. The direct effect of career decision-making self-efficacy, an independent variable, on happy life, a dependent variable, was not significant. Character strength and gratitude, which are mediators, were significant. Therefore, the indirect effect and the total effects showed significant results. Career decision-making self-efficacy does not directly predict a happy life, but if it mediates character strengths and gratitude, it means that a happy life can be predicted.

  • Korea has recently invested much of its effort in fostering talents in scientific fields to establish a foundation for sustainable future growth. From this perspective, the ministry of education has come up with a special rule aimed at achieving the substantiality of engineering schools in universities. The ministry has been providing educational support by providing a tech-innovation center, industry-oriented education, and policies such as PRIME. Despite this support, most students in the natural science field end up being hired in fields not related to their majors. There has been a growing opinion regarding the need for career education for these students. In this research, based on a social cognitive career theory (SCCT) model that provides a comprehensive understanding of career development, this research would like to practically examine the relationship among college students' career preparation behaviors and influencing variables, such as grit, career decision-making self-efficacy, outcome expectation, and major interest. Data from 153 natural-science majors at A college in Korea were collected and analyzed using path analysis. The result was that the data strongly supported the model explaining the relationship between career preparation behaviors and influencing variables. Based on this result, we propose that career education that can promote grit, career decision-making self-efficacy, outcome expectation, and major interest is required to encourage students in the field of the natural sciences to pursue career preparation behaviors related to their majors.

  • A long-range prediction system of tropical cyclone (TC) activity over the western North Pacific (WNP) has been operated in the National Typhoon Center of the Korea Meteorological Administration since 2012. The model forecasts the spatial distribution of TC tracks averaged over the period June~October. In this study, we separately developed TC prediction models for summer (June~August) and autumn (September~November) period based on the current operating system. To perform the three-month WNP TC activity prediction procedure readily, we modified the shell script calling in environmental variables automatically. The user can apply the model by changing these environmental variables of namelist parameter in consideration of their objective. The validations for the two seasons demonstrate the great performance of predictions showing high pattern correlations between hindcast and observed TC activity. In addition, we developed a post-processing script for deducing TC activity in the Korea emergency zone from final forecasting map and its skill is discussed.

  • This study attempted to identify the relationship between nursing students' adjustment to college life, stress, and major satisfaction, and to identify the factors that affect career decision-making self-efficacy. The study included 298 nursing students from two universities in the region, and data collection was conducted from April 24 to May 9, 2023. Results, It showed a significant negative correlation between college adjustment and stress, and it was found that there was a significant positive correlation between major satisfaction and career decision-making self-efficacy. Major satisfaction was the predictor variable that had the greatest impact on career decision-making self-efficacy, and the explanatory power was found to be 44.8%. This shows that nursing students with high self-efficacy are satisfied with their majors and adapt well to university life if they choose nursing studies. Therefore, there is a need to develop various career exploration and career education programs to enhance career decision-making self-efficacy.

  • The automated prediction system for seasonal tropical cyclone (TC) activity is established at the National Typhoon Center of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) to provide effective operation and control of the system for user who lacks knowledge of the system. For automation of the system, two procedures which include subjective decisions by user are performed in advance, and their output data are provided as input data. To provide the capability to understand the operational processes for operational user, the input and output data are summarized with each process, and the directory structure is reconstructed following KMA's standard. We introduce a user interface using namelist input parameters to effectively control operational conditions which is fixed or should be manually set in the previous version of the prediction system. To operationally use early prediction which become available through the automation, its performances are evaluated according to initial condition dates. As a result, high correlations between the observed and predicted TC counts are kept for all track clusters even though advancing the initial condition date from May to January.

  • This study was to identify the factors influencing college life adjustment and sub-scales of nursing students. Self- report questionnaire surveys were conducted toward 282 freshman nursing students to measure college life adjustment, psychological well-being, emotional intelligence, and self-efficacy. Data were collected from September 22 through October 7, 2016. This study was analyzed using SPSS Win 18.0. The average mean of college life adjustment was 3.36 and academic activity was the highest, followed by individual psychology, social experience, Interpersonal relationship, and career preparation. A correlation of psychological well-being, emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, college life adjustment and sub-scales showed positive correlation. The strongest predictor of college life adjustment was a self-efficacy. And sub-scales, the strongest predictor of academic activity was academic achievement, career preparation was self-efficacy, individual psychology and social experience was emotional intelligence, and Interpersonal relationship was psychological well-being. An intervention program which includes these significant variables of subjects is essential to improve of college life adjustment.

  • This study attempted to identify convergence effect factors affecting career-preparation behavior among nursing students with clinical practice. Study participants were 159 students in D city and data were collected from September 25 to October 4, 2014. Participants' responses were analyzed using a stepwise regression analysis. As results, satisfaction with major, professional values, and positive psychological capital were positively correlated with career-preparation behavior. Significant and convergence predictors of career-preparation behavior were curriculum satisfaction, a subdomain of major satisfaction, and social awareness as a professional value. These findings showed that nursing students' career-preparation behavior was partly determined by major satisfaction and nursing professional values. positive psychological capital need to be investigated as a convergent influence factor of career preparation behavior of nursing students by further study.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of self-regulation(SR) and the moderating effect of career identity(CI) in predicting academic achievement(AA) by middle school students' achievement value(AV). The subjects were 1,088 male and 970 female students in the third year of middle school. A conditional process analysis using SPSS and Hayes' process macro was conducted. The results were as follows. First, the partial mediation effect of SR was significant in the relationship between AV and AA. Second, the moderating effect of CI was notable in the relationship between AV and SR, and AV and AA respectively. Finally, the mediation effect of AV on AA through SR was found to decrease as CI increased. These results show that supporting the development of CI for students with low AV helps to improve SR and AA. However, as the effect of CI was found to be weaker than the effect of AV or SR on AA, the follow-up research exploring ways to support the achievement value of middle school students are suggested.
