Shaking table tests are carried out on a single-degree-of-freedom mass that is equipped with a hybrid base isolation system. The isolator consists of a set of four specially-designed friction pendulum systems (FPS) and a magnetorheological (MR) damper. The structure and its hybrid isolation system are subjected to various intensities of near- and far-fault earthquakes on a large shake table. The proposed fuzzy controller uses feedback from displacement or acceleration transducers attached to the structure to modulate resistance of the semi-active damper to motion. Results from several types of passive and semi-active control strategies are summarized and compared. The study shows that a combination of FPS isolators and an adjustable MR damper can effectively provide robust control of vibration for a large full-scale structure undergoing a wide variety of seismic loads.
Already, vari-stem, gas-bag, power deck, air ball etc. are used by various blasting methods to take the advantage of air decking technology in abroad. Air tube product has been used continuously in domestic and air ball product was made recently. In the case study, we analyzed about the application and the effect or air deck blasting method in domestic blasting area. As results or this case study, it was shown that blasting vibration was decreased about $21{\sim}41%$ and quantities or explosives was decreased about $17{\sim}30%$. Also, in the case of using air deck blasting method, fragmentation was shown to be smaller than common blasting method.

This paper describes the dynamic behavior and enhancement of Korean high-speed trains. The tail vibration reduction method of the yaw damper installation method change, which was derived from previous research, was applied to the running test of high-speed train. In addition, the vibration reduction method for the entire vehicle was derived by a numerical method and its effect was confirmed by a running test. The improved design was applied to the double-deck high-speed train coaches and the commissioning proceeded without problems in dynamic behavior. Sensitivity analysis of the suspension parameters affecting the critical speed of Korean next-generation high-speed trains was performed and four design variables that greatly affected the critical speed were derived. These were in the order of the primary elastic joint x-directional stiffness, the secondary yaw damper series stiffness, the secondary lateral damper damping coefficient, and the carbody damper damping coefficient. By optimizing the design variables, the suspension parameter that improves the critical speed by 23.3% can be used in the commercial designs of Korean next-generation high-speed trains.

This study introduces the design of a bi-directional damper using a tuned mass damper(TMD) and a tuned liquid column damper(TLCD) and presents experimental verifications to confirm its control performance. The damper used in this study behaves as a TMD in a specific translational direction and acts as a TLCD in the other orthogonal direction. First, shaking table test is performed to investigate the coupled effect of control forces produced by TMD and TLCD. Then, the parameters that affect to dynamic characteristics of the proposed damper are quantitatively evaluated based on the experimental results. Testing results shows that the damper used in this study produces control forces coupled by TLCD and TMD, as it is excited by waves with an incident angle. Also, it is observed that the damper can be used to reduce bi-directional responses of building structures.

In general industrial rotating machinery is operated under 3,600 rpm as rotating speed and designed to have critical speed that is above operating speed. So, there was no problem to operate rotating machine under critical speed. But nowadays, they should be operated more than the frist critical speed as usual with the trend of high speed, large scale and hish precision in industries. In case of the large rotor assembly as the trend of large scale, using fitting method of disk or cylinder on shaft is rising for the convenience of assembly and cutting down of manufacturing cost. The shrink fitting is used to assemble lamination part on shaft for manufacturing of rotor of motor or generator in many cases and also is widely used for other machinery. In rotating system, which is compose of rotor and bearing, the critical speed is determined from inertia and stiffness for the rotor and bearings. In case of fitting assembly, analysis and design of the rotor is not easy because the rotor stiffness is determined depend on a lot of factors such as shaft material/dimension, disk material/dimension and assembled interference etc. Therefore designer who makes a plan for hish-speed rotating machine should design that the critical speed is located out of operating range, as dangerous factors exist in it. In order to appropriate design, an accurate estimation of stiffness and damping is very important. The stiffness variation depend on fitting interference is a factor that changes critical speed and if it's possible to estimate it, that Is very useful to design rotor-bearing system. In this paper, the natural frequency variation of the rotor depends on fitting interference between basic shaft and cylinder is examined by experimentation. From the result, their correlation is evaluated quantitatively using numerical analysis that is introduced equivalent diameter end the calculation criteria is presented for designer who design fitting assembly to apply with ease for determination of appropriate interference.

The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of dynamic characteristics of the check valve applied to the small piezoelectric-hydraulic pumps on flow rate formation. The flow rate of the piezoelectric-hydraulic pump is a key factor in the formation of the load pressure to operate the brake system. At this time, the natural frequency of the check valve operating in the fluid has a great influence on the formulation of the flow rate of the piezoelectric-hydraulic pump. In addition, the natural frequency of the check valve is affected by the gap between the check valve and the pump seat. In this study, the natural frequency of the check valve according to the gap between the check valve and the pump seat was calculated through the fluid-structure interaction analysis. The flow rate obtained from the simulation result was verified by comparing it with the result from the flow rate experiment using the developed piezoelectric-hydraulic pump.

This paper deals with the flow caused by a two-dimensional pulsating source, which moves with a constant horizontal speed beneath the free surface. The analysis is based on lincar potential theory including surface tension effects. In the case of subcritical reduced frequencies $\tau<1/4(\tau=U_{\omega}/g$, U=constant speed, $\omega$=circular frequency, g=gravitational acceleration), six wave components arc found. Two of them are largely affected by surface tension, which propagate ahead of the source in the direction of and opposite to the steady translation, respectively. The rest are almost identical with those found by Haskind(1954), i.e. for which the surface tension effect is negligible. For low oscillation frequencies, the resonant frequency still exists at $\tau$ only slightly greater than 1/4. For oscillation frequencies greater than $\nu(={\omega}^2/g)>20$, the surface tension effect is so significant that it disperses generated waves and consequently the singular phenomenon is removed. However, in addition to the gravity breaking, capillary breakings occur when the translation speed coincides with the minimum capillary celerity.

In general, pyroshock is generated from the actuation of separation devices for several stage, fairing, and satellite separation in the flight of a launch vehicle. During these events, transient vibration phenomenon called pyroshock, which shows large acceleration in the high frequency range, occurs and it can result in the malfunction of electronic components which is equipped inside the launch vehicle or satellite. In this paper, mesh washer isolators made out of SMA were introduced for the isolation of pyroshock. One type of isolator primarily used pseudoelastic characteristics of SMA and the other type of isolator used shape memory effect of SMA. For the study of basic load-displacement relationship of each SMA isolator, compressive loading tests were performed and the results showed the capability of the isolator itself. Pyroshock isolation tests were followed and verified the outstanding isolation performance of isolator. In addition, random vibration tests were also performed and checked the dynamic characteristics of each SMA isolator.

The objective of the study was to apply the vibration technique to reduce the viscosity of bonding adhesives and thereby compare the bond strength and resin penetration into dentinal tubules achieved with those gained using the conventional technique. Eighty-eight noncarious extracted human permanent molar teeth were sectioned to remove the coronal enamel and were embedded in 1-inch PVC pipe with acrylic resin. The occlusal surfaces were placed so that the tooth and the embedding medium were at the same level to form one flat surface, and the samples were subsequently polished with silicon carbide abrasive papers. The samples were randomly assigned to 4 groups(n=22). On Group 1 and 2, Single Bond(3M-ESPE, St. Paul, USA) was used, and on Group 3 and 4, One-Step(Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, USA) was used, and each was applied according to its manufacturer's instructions. For Group 2 and Group 4, vibration was applied with ultrasonic scaler for 10 seconds, and the adhesive was light-cured for 10 seconds. Resin composite was condensed on to the prepared surface in two increments using a mold kit(Ultradent Products Inc., USA) and each was light-cured for 40 seconds. After 24 hours in tap water at room temperature the specimens were thermocycled, and shear bond strengths were measured with a universal testing machine(Instron 4465, Canton, USA). To investigate infiltration patterns of the adhesive materials, the surface of specimen was examined with scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows. 1. The shear bond strengths of vibration groups(Group 2, Group 4) were significantly greater than those of the non-vibration groups(Group 1, Group 3)(p<0.05). 2. The shear bond strengths of Single Bond and One-Step were not significantly different (p>0.05). 3. The vibration groups showed greater number of resin tags in tubules and lateral branches under SEM.
A medicinal herb, Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni which is grown under physical stresses such as simulated microgravity, shaking, and low temperature for 4 days, showed fresh weight decrease of 3.6%, 21% and 8.7% compared with the respective control. On control plants, the radical scavenging value of DPPH represented 86% and 55%, respectively in the leaves and stems extracts. Relatively weak antioxidant activities of 22% and 27% were measured respectively in AA (ascorbic acid) and BHA (beta-hydroxyacetic acid) known as synthetic antioxidants. The radical scavenging effect of DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydazal) in stevia plants under a simulated microgravity was observed to be consistently higher relative to the control, whereas those effects of shaking and low temperature treatments rapidly increased and then reduced after 6 hours in case of shaking process and 24 hours in case of low temperature treatment, which results had similar levels of scavenging effects to the control. The plants under simulated microgravity showed the highest level of activity with the value of 147% and the shaking and low temperature treatments showed the increases of SOD activity by 121% and 125%, respectively. From the above results, it is clarified that the simulated microgravity is more effective to the antioxidant activity than those of other abiotic stresses.
