  • The rigid body properties of a structure may be estimated easily if the mass-line of the structure could be taken exactly. However, the exact mass-line may be hard to be obtained exactly in experiments. The mass line value can be read from the mass line in frequency response function. However, the mass lines in the frequency response function sometimes show the fluctuation with frequency, and it cannot be read correctly. In this paper, the wavelet transform is applied to obtain the good mass line value. The mass line calculated by using wavelet transform has unique value and showed in the range of fluctuated values of frequency response function. The rigid body properties obtained by wavelet transform also showed better results than those by fourier transform.

  • Elastomers are extensively used in various machine design application, mainly for vibration/shock/noise control devices. However. there are still a lot of difficulties in designing the elastomeric components applied in complex shapes and under pre-deformed states. One of the most Influential factors related to mechanical properties of elastomers are pre- and dynamic strains. Consequently, a large number of experiments have to be conducted to identify dynamic properties of elastomers considering their combined effects. In this paper, we present an efficient experimental method to identify mechanical properties of elastomers considering effects of pre- and dynamic strains. This method is capable of predicting the dynamic characteristics of elastomers under arbitrary strain states from reduced experimental data.

  • In order to satisfy the regulations concerned with the noise emission of fork-lift trucks and thereby increase export to the western countries, a noise reduction technique should be developed in the early design stage. In this paper, several noise sources are identified using the sound suppression method and sound intensity measurement, and their contributions to the sound levels at the operator's ears and at the distance of 7m from the vehicle are studied. For each of the major noise producting components, noise abatement alternative are suggested and their effects are analyzed.

  • The bolts fixing the valve cover to the engine were often reported to be failed in a wheel loader model. Recently this failures were continually repeated in the specified equipment. In order to identify the fatigue fractures of the bolts, various vibration tests were carried out. From these tests, it was found out that the failure was due to the resonance between the excitation force of engine and the transverse mode of engine valve cover. So, the several modifications for the bolts were considered to avoid the resonance. Finally, the bolt failure problem was clearly resolved.

  • The root cause of abnormal sound from a heat exchanger of condensate water system in a nuclear power plant is investigated by using the impact signal-processing methodology based on the Hertz theory. The predicted results for the location of impact force and the loose part size meet good agreement with the identified materials during the overhaul period in the plant. Nuclear power plants have experienced several loose parts and the frequency of the loose part will be increased along the aging of the plants. So, this analysis methodology for the impact signal will be widely utilized for the primary and secondary side of the nuclear power plant.

  • A study to determine a proper sensor placement was developed to improve force identification. Improper selection of response position cause erroneous result in force identification problem. This paper presents two methods to improve the conditioning of the system's FRM(Frequency Response Matrix) which affects the accuracy of result. The basic strategy of the two methods in selecting the response position is to let the smallest singular value be as large as possible by maximizing the orthogonality of FRM. The suggested methods are tested numerically with a fixed-fixed beam model. The test results show that the proposed methods are very effective in dealing with the force identification problem.

  • It was proposed to identify Thiele Small Parameters for loudspeaker attached to closed-box using known dynamic mass of moving parts. Also, enhanced PSPICE circuit model for closed-box loudspeaker system was proposed to more accurately simulate real closed-box loudspeaker system. Frequency dependent parameters were used to model voice coil inductor. Acoustic pressure response curves and electrical impedance curves were simulated and investigated by PSPICE circuit model according to compensation filter's parameters. Finally, proposed method is expected to be utilized for identification of pseudo Thiele Small parameters of microspeaker.

  • Sound intensity method is well known as a visualization technique of sound field and sound propagation in noise control. Sound intensity is a vector quantity that describes the magnitude and the direction of net flow of acoustic energy at a given position. The current measuring method is expensive and difficult to identify the noise source exactly. In this paper, we have studied the noise source identification and the characteristics of noise source of rotary compressor for air conditioner using complex sound intensity method. The new method for instantaneous sound intensity is also proposed and it is useful for transient state and steady state. The criteria of these state, select auto correlation coefficient. The advantage, simplicity and economic attribution of this method are verified by analyzing the characteristics of noise source with instantaneous sound intensity compared to mean sound intensity.

  • The vibration of a flexible cantilever tube with nonlinear constraints when it is subjected to flow internally with fluids is examined by experiment and theoretical analysis. These kind of studies have often been performed that finds the existence of chaotic motion. In this paper, the important parameters of the system leading to such a chaotic motion such as Young's modulus and coefficient of viscoelasticity in tube material are discussed. The parameters are investigated by means of a system identification so that comparisons are made between numerical analysis using the parameters of a handbook and the experimental results. The chaotic region led by several period-doubling bifurcations beyond the Hopf bifurcation is also re-established with phase portraits and bifurcation diagram so that one can define optimal parameters for system design.
