The paper describes a theoretical study on the flexural vibration of an elastic flat bar with periodically nonuniform material properties. The approximate solution of the natura1 frequency and mode shape has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidify and mass density. The numerical solution obtained by using the finite element method verifies the trend of the approximate solution. It appears that distributed vibrations exist in the low modes, and this approach can be extended to the vibration analysis of the p1ate in the flat panel speaker.
A powerful analytical procedure and strain energy analysis to investigate the free vibration of antisymmetric angle-ply laminated plates, having one pair of opposite edges simply supported, are develped on the basis of the Yang, Norris and Stavsky (YSN) theory. The equation of motion of the plate are solved by the use of collocation method. A range of results are presented for plates to show the effects of modulus ratio and number of layers on natural frequency. In addition, an analysis of the strain energy distributions is used as an aid for the better understanding of the vibration characteristics of the plates.

This paper deriver the generalized mass to find dynamic characteristics and its derivatives of a continous system. And a new sensitivity analysis method is presented by using the amount of change of generalized mass and vibrational mode caused by the variation of lumped and distributed mass. In this paper, to get or detect appropriate results, cantilever beam and stepped beam are used. Deviations of sensitivity coefficient, natual frequency, vibrational mode and transfer function are calculated as result, and compared with the theoretical exact values.

A new oscillatory neural circuit with computational function has been designed and been designed and fabricated in an $0.5{\mu}m$ double poly CMOS technology. The proposed oscillatory circuit consists of 3 neural oscillators with excitatory synapses and a neural oscillator with inhibitory synapse. The oscillator block which is a basic element of the neural circuit is designed with a variable negative resistor and 2 transconductors. The variable negative resistor which is used as a input stage of the oscillator consist of a bump circuit with Gaussian-like I-V curve. SPICE simulations of a designed neural circuit demonstrate cooperative computation. Measurements of the fabricated neural chip in condition of ${\pm}$ 2.5 V power supply are shown and compared with the simulated results.

Spaceborne pulse tube-type cryogenic compressors are widely used for space applications. To guarantee cooling performance of the compressor, mission life time and micor-vibration stability, suitable thermal control of compressor is required. Micro-vibration of the compressor is the one of the sources to degrade the pointing performance of observation satellite. In the present work, on-orbit thermal design of compressor in order not to degrade the performance of micro-vibration isolation system keeping the thermal control performance has been proposed and investigated through thermo-mechanical analysis.
The purpose of the study is to identify a sound generating organ that has a major influence on the central frequency of the cicadas with the Helmholtz resonator structure for the first time. The sound of cicadas Cryptotympana atrata and Hyalessa fuscata were recorded and analyzed, then the motion of the tymbals was analyzed with a high-speed camera to compare the relationship between the frequency of sound and the motion of the tymbals. As a result, there was little difference in the frequency distribution of calling song and scream for two species. The tymbals of C. atrata oscillated in three vibration modes, while those of H. fuscata oscillated in one mode. There was no difference in the frequency of both tymbals of both cicadas, and three vibration modes of C. atrata generated sound with different frequency bands. The frequency band of tymbals and the central frequency band of calling song were very similar. In conclusion, it is presumed that the frequency of the cicadas with the Helmholtz resonator structure was determined by mode frequency of the tymbals than resonance condition of the abdomen.
Free vibration characteristics of a cantilevered laminated composite beam with multiple non-propagating transverse open cracks are investigated. In the present analysis a special ply-angle distribution referred to as asymmetric stiffness configuration inducing the elastic coupling between chord-wise bending and extension is considered. The multiple open cracks are modelled as equivalent rotational springs whose spring constants are calculated based on the fracture mechanics of composite material structures. Governing equations of a composite beam with open cracks are derived via Hamilton's Principle and Timoshenko beam theory encompassing transverse shear and rotary inertia effect is adopted. The effects of various parameters such as the ply angle, fiber volume fraction, crack numbers, crack positions and crack depthes on the free vibration characteristics of the beam with multiple cracks are highlighted. The numerical results show that the existence of the multiple cracks in an anisotropic composite beam affects the free vibration characteristics in a more complex fashion compared with the beam with a single crack.
In the power ultrasound fields, the flange position for fixing the transducer is an important factor influencing on electro-mechanical efficiency of the transducer. We suggested a practical method that can determine the installation position of the flange for different resonance modes of the bolt-clamped type Langevin ultrasonic transducer. A semicircular wedge-shaped jig was manufactured and moved along the lateral surface of the transducer. The vibration characteristics were examined after a constant pressure was applied to the semicircular wedge-shaped jig. By observing the change of the input admittance of the transducer depending on the position of the pressure application, the optimum position for the flange installation could be determined. The resonant modes of the transducer were calculated by a Mason's equivalent circuit, and the particle velocity distribution for each resonance mode was calculated by a transmission line model. Since the optimum positions determined from an experimental result show a good correspondence with the node positions of the vibration modes calculated by the transmission line model, the validity of the suggested method was verified.
A method for estimating rock joint size distribution using contained traces length distribution from 3D cylindrical window survey was suggested. To reduce the numerical error, an improved technique was applied. The accuracy was verified by referring to Monte-Carlo simulation and it was found that the error can be decreased with suitable gamma values.
