  • Various control algorithms have been proposed for the speed-sensorless control for an induction motor. These control schemes are mainly based on the speed feedback with the flux and speed estimations. This paper proposes another method for the speed-sensorless control for an induction motor. The proposed scheme is based on the torque and flux compensation without speed estimations, in which the same controlled stator voltage is applied to both the induction motor and the numerical model so that the differences between torques and fluxes of the model and the induction motor may be compelled to give access to zero. The results of experiment show the effectiveness of the scheme.

  • The effect of sensor faults in direct torque control(DTC) based induction motor drives is analyzed and a new Instrument fault detection isolation scheme(IFDIS) is proposed. The proposed IFDIS, which operated in real-time, detects and isolates the incipient fault(s) of speed sensor and current sensors that provide the feedback information. The scheme consists of an adaptive gain scheduling observer as a residual generator and a special sequential test logic unit. The observer provides not only the estimate of stator flux, a key variable in DTC system, but also the estimates of stator current and rotor speed that are useful for fault detection. With the test logic, the IFDIS has the functionality of fault isolation that only multiple estimator based IFDIS schemes can have. Simulation results for various type of sensor faults show the detection and isolation performance of the IFDIS and the applicability of this scheme to fault tolerant control system design.

  • This paper presents supervisor control methods at a matrix converter controlled overhead crane system based on a controller area network (CAN). Four induction motors are used to drive the gantry, trolley, and hoist at he crane and each motor is controlled by the matrix converter with direct torque control (DTC). Both the position control algorithm and the supervisor control system using CAN are introduced. Simulation and experimental results are carried out to verify the performance of position control at the matrix converter controlled crane system.

  • Hydraulic torque load simulator is essential to test and qualify the performance of various angle control systems. Typically a flapper-type second stage servovalve is applied to the load simulator, but here the direct drive servovalve, which is a kind of one-stage valve and affected by the large flow force, is applied. Since the torque load is applied not to the stationary shaft but to the rotating shaft of the angle control system, the controlled torque of load simulator is not accurate due to the rotating speed of the angle control system. A feedforward compensator is designed and applied to minimize the disturbance-like effect. A mathematical model is derived and linearized to analyze the stability, accuracy and responsiveness of the torque load simulator. The parameter effects of a controller, servovalve, hydraulic motor, rotating spring shaft are analyzed and summarized. The goodness of the linear analysis is verified by the digital computer simulations using both the linear and nonlinear mathematical models.

  • This paper proposes the applicability of matrix converter topology for the speed control of direct current motors. Matrix convertesr are divided into direct and indirect components. This paper utilizes an indirect matrix converter which is expected to be used widely because of making a variety of output side. The proposed converter has advantages which improves input current shape, has no large energy storage component causing short life. Simulation results are provided to verify effectiveness by comparing and analyzing features of the proposed and conventional topology. The proposed method shows similar performance for speed control, torque control, and load current control compared to a conventional method. Furthermore Harmonics are greatly reduced because the input current is controlled in a manner similar to sinusoidal wave by directly controlling switches at the rectifier stage.

  • The direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) method is presented in this paper, which enables torque to be generated during all region and instantaneous torque control to be possible. The hysteresis control mode with the compared value between given torque and instantaneous output torque as input is applied in respect region. The output torque function, that is instantaneous output torque with the variation of current and position of rotor, is achieved by experiment. In this control mode the torque subsection function and current control are not needed. The turn on angle with variation of load torque and speed is only selected and turn off angle can be neglected. The validity of method is tested by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper focuses on a simple technique to reduced torque ripple in the direct torque control inverter for PMSM drive. It is actually impossible to raise the inverter switching frequency in the conventional system, although the hysterisis bandwidths for the stator flux and torque control are sufficiently diminished, because of the sampling Interval and the delay in estimating the flux and the torque In order to overcome the problem, the proposed method introduces a dithering technique into the conventional system by superposing triangular waves with high frequency and minute amplitude on the torque error. And the programable 3- stage lowpass filter is added instead of pure Integrator. Simulation results prove the feasibility of proposed strategy compared with conventional method.
