직접분사식 디젤기관의 화염 속에서 생성되는 그을음의 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the characteristics of soots formation in spray flame for DI diesel engine)

  • To analyze a formation process of the soots in spray flame in the combustion chamber, an optically accessible DI Diesel engine was used for visualization. The images of the flames and soots were visualiaed with high speed camera by Schlieren method and Light extinction method. The spray flame and soot images on the films were analyzed at the various engine operating conditions. Soot distributed widely in spray flame and its concentration was about $100g/m^3$ at the position close by nozzle tip of spray flame region, however it decreased below $20g/m^3$ at the corner of combustion chamber due to soot oxidation.

직접 디젤 연료분사계의 분사 특성과 기관 성능 개선에 관한 연구 (Injection Feature and Engine Performance Improvement of the Direct Diesel Fuel Injection System)

  • This study has focused on using fuel injections as variables for measuring performance and reducing exhaust gas in turbo-charger diesel engine. In experiments, we changed nozzle hole diameter, diameter of an injection pipe, and injection timing as variable. The results show that torque. fuel consumption and smoke are reduced as nozzle hole diameter decreases, while NOx increases. When the diameter of injector is reduced, torque, fuel consumption and smoke are deteriorated, but NOx is decreased. In addition, when the time for injection is advanced. torque, fuel consumption and smoke are improved, but the density of NOx is increased.

  • Recently many researchers have been studying the development of alternative energy due to serious environmental pollution and drying up fossil energy. Among various alternative fuels, authors investigated the physical and combustion characteristics of the bio diesel fuel(BDF) which was made from the wasted vegetable oil. In this study, PXI and LabVIEW, which is a novel measuring instrument and online analysis, was used to investigate the combustion characteristics of BDF in a DI diesel engine.

  • Recently, the tightening of an available crude oil supplies has resulted in the development of intense consciousness for saving fuels. At the same time, some research programs have been launched to secure substitute energy sources for petroleum-derived fuels, and to reduce unhealthy products, such as CO, HC, NOx and smoke. To keep up with these trends in society, the regulation affecting diesel smoke may be greatly strengthened in a short time. In not too distant future, LPG and LNG are the most hopeful substitute fuels for automobile and truck uses. This paper discusses how to use such gaseous fuels in a diesel engine, and how much methods for introducing these fuels affect the engine performance.

  • Biodiesel fuel(BDF) which is easily produced from vegetable oils such as soybean oil and rice bran oil can be effectively used as an alternative fuel in diesel engine. But biodiesel fuel can affect the performance and emissions in diesel engine because it has different chemical and physical properties from diesel fuel. To investigate the combustion characteristics of biodiesel fuel as an alternative fuel for D.I. diesel engine, the experiments were carried out at the three-cylinder, four stroke D.I. diesel engine with T/C. Experimental parameters adopted a conventional diesel fuel and a blend of biodiesel fuel derived from soybean. As a result of experiments in a test engine, BSFC with blend of BDF resulted in higher than with diesel fuel. The ignition delay decreased with blend of BDF than with diesel fuel.

  • Recently, lots of researchers have been attracted to develop various alternative fuels in diesel engine. The use of biodiesel fuel(BDF) is an effective way of substituting diesel fuel in the long run. But biodiesel fuel can affect the performance and emissions in diesel engine because it has different chemical and physical properties from diesel fuel. In this study, to investigate the combustion characteristics of biodiesel fuel as an alternative fuel for D.I. diesel engine, experiments were carried out at the three-cylinder, four stroke D.I. diesel engine with T/C. As a result, shorter ignition delays were observed for the biodiesel blend cases relative to the diesel oil. The pick value of premixed combustion for the rate of heat release is increased with decreasing C.F.W. temperature.

순수 DME의 직접분사식 디젤기관의 성능 및 배기가스 특성 (Engine Performance and Exhaust Emissions Characteristics of DI Diesel Engine Operated with Neat Dimethyl Ether)

  • DME(Dimethyl ether) is an oxygenated fuel with a octane number higher than that of diesel oil. It meets the ULEV emission regulation and reduces the smoke to almost zero when used in a diesel engine. In the present study, engine performance and exhaust emissions were investigated with a conventional DI diesel engine which has a jerk type injection pump. Test results showed that the power with DME were almost same as that of pure diesel oil, and the brake thermal efficiency increased a little. Also, smoke index from DME engine showed nearly zero level, but NO$_{x}$ was increased compare to diesel oil.

  • A fuel injection system has an important role in the performance and emission gas in a diesel engine. In this paper, an experimental study has been performed to verify the effect of the performance and the emission gas with the factors such as diameters of an injection nozzle hole, diameters of an injection pipe, and injection timing in the fuel injection system. We have obtained the results that the fuel consumption ratio is reduced and NOx concentration is increased as the smaller diameter of injection nozz1e hole, the smaller diameter of injection pipe, and more advanced injection timing. They show that optimizing the factors of fuel injection system is significant to enhance the performance of the engine system and consumption ratio of fuel, smoke, and NOx.

  • This research investigated variations of the engine performance and the exhaust emission characteristic of a direct injection diesel engine by fueling a commercial diesel fuel, which was blended with the di-ether group (butyl-ether: BE). The smoke emission reduced to 26% from the diesel engine with the blending fuel (diesel fuel 80 vol-% + BE 20 vol-%)at the full engine load of 2500 rpm compared to it with the diesel fuel only. The power, torque and brake specific energy consumption of the diesel engine showed very slight differences. The NOx emission from the diesel engine, however, with the blended fuel was higher than with the commercial diesel fuel only. By applying EGR method, as a counter plan of the NOx reduction, this research obtained reductions of the smoke and NOx emission at the same time from the diesel engine with the BE blended diesel fuel.
