The Impact of Fairness of Industrial Security Practitioners on Willingness to Comply with Workplace Silence and Security Policies (산업보안업무 종사자의 조직공정성이 직장내침묵과 보안정책준수의지에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to improve the working environment of industrial security workers by analyzing the effects of organizational fairness of workers in industrial security work on silence in workplace and will to adhere to security policy. The data used in this study consisted of a total of 190 respondents. Statistical analysis of correlation and multiple regression analysis was performed using the SPSS 18.0 statistical program, The results of the study are as follows. First, it can be seen that the more silent the workers in the industrial security work are not being treated fairly, the higher the silence in the workplace. Second, the factors of distribution and interaction fairness affect the will to comply with the security policy, so fair distribution and fair treatment of the compensation can increase the willingness of the industrial security worker to adhere to the security policy. Third, it was found that the dominant silent factor influenced the will to adhere to the security policy, and the more the silence about the organization and its job, the lower the will to adhere to the security policy. The results of this study show that organizational fairness and silence in the workplace directly and indirectly influence the willingness to adhere to the security policy.

The Development and Validation of the Silence Motivation Scale (침묵동기 척도 개발 및 타당화)

  • This study investigated the nature and dimensionality of the motives why employees showed the silence even though they could speak up their opinions. It aimed to develop the scales measuring employee silence. Thus, three studies were designed and particularly, two studies featured two different studies, totaling five studies. Study 1 conducted open-ended survey asking and 104 workers from a variety of work field answered. With the results of open-ended questions, a were developed, consisting of 60-items to measure employee silence motivation. Study 2 examined the scale developed and 481 workers from diverse work fields participated in. The exploratory factor and 'intra-ESEM' analyses were confirmed the construct of silence motivation, composing 5 factors(acquiescent, defensive, disengaged, opportunistic, relational silence) the 20-items was developed to measure the construct(Study 2-1). Furthermore, 'inter-ESEM' analysis was examined the discriminant validity of scale developed by the current study with general silence behavior and voice behavior. It found that the employee silence was distinguished from general silence behavior and voice behavior(Study 2-2). Study 3 was designed for validation of silence motivation scale which developed from Study 1 and Study 2. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study as well as the direction for future study were discussed.

Effects of Nurses' Workplace Incivility on Workplace Bullying: The Moderating Effect of Organizational Silence and Head Nurses' Authentic Leadership (간호사의 직장 내 무례함이 직장 내 괴롭힘에 미치는 영향: 조직침묵, 수간호사 진성 리더십의 조절효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of nurses' workplace incivility on workplace bullying, as well as the moderating effects of organizational silence and head nurses' authentic leadership. Methods: A descriptive research design was used with a convenience sample of 154 nurses. Data were collected from April 02 to April 18, 2024 using self-reported online questionnaires. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: Workplace bullying was positively correlated with organizational silence and workplace incivility (r=.65, p<.001, r=.82, p<.001); however, it was negatively correlated with head nurses' authentic leadership (r=-.63, p<.001). In addition, organizational silence had a moderating effect on the relationship between workplace incivility and workplce bullying (β=.12, p=.006). Conclusion: Organizational Silence has a moderating effect on the relationship between nurses' workplace incivility and workplace bullying. This study's findings indicate the necessity of reducing organizational silence in the context of incivility and bullying experienced by nurses in the workplace.

Mediating Effects of Organizational Silence between Workplace Bullying and Organizational Performance among Nurses (간호조직 내 태움과 조직성과에 관한 연구: 조직침묵의 매개효과 분석을 중심으로)

  • This study is to analyze the relationship between Taeoom(workplace bullying) and organizational performance and to investigate the mediating effects of organizational silence between the relationship among nurses. In order to test the causal and mediating effects, this study employs the mediation analyses with regression. The sample is 273 from A university hospital in Seoul. Based on the results, Taeoom is basically, negatively associated with organizational performance. Acquiescence silence has played a full mediating role in the relationship between Taeoom and organizational performance. That is, Taeoom is not directly associated with organizational performance; however, it has a negative effect on organizational performance through acquiescence silence. Defensive silence plays a partial mediating role in the interdependence relationship. The implications of this study are that the negative effects of Taeoom would increase organizational silence and performance directly and indirectly; therefore, it is necessary to provide institutional prevention of Taeoom.

The Influence of Foodservice Industry Culinary Staff's Workplace Harassment in Organizational Silence, Counterproductive Work Behavior and Turnover Intent: Focus on Moderating Effects on Gender and Staff's Job Status (외식산업 조리종사원의 직장 내 괴롭힘이 조직침묵, 반생산적 행동 및 이직의도에 미치는 영향: 성별과 고용형태의 조절효과 검증)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of workplace harassment in foodservice industry culinary staff's on organizational silence, counterproductive work behavior and turnover intent. Based on total 234 samples obtained from empirical research, this study tested the reliability and fitness of the research model and verified a total of 5 hypotheses using the AMOS program. Using a structural equation model (SEM), hypothesized relationships in the model were tested simultaneously. The proposed model provided an adequate fit the data, $x^2=75.936$ (p<.001), df=41, CMIN/DF=1.852, GFI=.946, AGFI=.913, NFI=.914, TLI=.944, CFI=.958, RMSEA=.060. The model's fit, as indicated by these indexes, was deemed satisfactory, thus providing a good basis for testing the hypothesized paths. The SEM showed that the relational workplace harassment (${\beta}=.957$) had a positive significant influence on organizational silence, organizational silence (${\beta}=.934$) had a positive significant influence on counterproductive work behavior. Also, counterproductive work behavior (${\beta}=.815$) had a positive significant influence on turnover intention. The moderating effects on gender and job status did not show significant effect. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
