  • A new approach to the design of bank note counters is suggested. Modern bank note counters are equipped with several types of sensors for counting and detection of counterfeit bank notes. To achieve higher speed of counting while maintaining the sensing capability, longitudinal feeding scheme is proposed. Several merits of longitudinal feeding are discussed. Taguchi method is used for the optimization of the feeding mechanism.

  • power transfer breaker is a device used to transfer the load from the electricity power line to the emergency generators. In case of overload, it also functions as a circuit breaker. In this work, a new mechanism for the device is suggested. Among the various design challenges, optimization of the trigger mechanism is identified as of central importance. Optimal design decisions are made with the use of Taguchi method.

  • This paper present the optimal cleaning condition of the out-hull preprocessing robot by Taguchi method in design of experiments. A $L_8(2^4)$ orthogonal array is adopted to study the effect of adjustment parameters. The adjustment parameters consist of robot speed, motor torque, motor speed and tool angle. And the quality feature is selected as surface roughness of sheet metal. Taguchi analysis is performed in order to evaluate the effect of adjustment parameters of the quality feature of cleaning process by $Minitab^{(R)}$.

다구찌 방법을 사용한 구조물의 손상 평가 (Damage Assessment of Structures Using Taguchi Method)

  • A robust damage assessment technique is presented such that the location and severity of damage in structures can be identified using measured modal data. In order to identify the damage efficiently, the concept of design of experiment using orthogonal array is used for screening the main effects of each parameter which corresponds to possible damage location in FE model. Then, Taguchi method, which has been widely used for robust design in industry, is applied to parameter updating in analytical FE model. The numerical simulations of a truss structure show that damages in structure can be located from updated parameters.

  • Automobile airbag deployment process has been studied with MADYMO software. Based on the FMVSS208 and USNCAP(United States New Car Assessment Program) regulations, four parameters were chosen for the design improvement with reference to the 5th percentile female passenger dummy: time to fire, vent hole size, tether length and tank test pressure of inflator. Sensitivity analyses based on orthogonal arrays show that enhanced protection of small females can be achieved with improved USNCAP rating within the boundary of FMVSS 208.

실험계획법을 이용한 삼원촉매담체의 조기 파손 예방 설계 (Premature Failure Prevention design of Three-way Catalyst Substrate using DOE)

  • Domestic three-way catalyst satisfies exhaust gas conversion efficiency or pressure drop etc. but doesn't satisfy thermal durability. Thermal stress analysis for three-way catalyst was performed based on experimental temperature distribution. Thermal safety of three-way catalyst was estimated by safety factor. Aspect ratio variable had the most significant effect on thermal stress. Thickness variable had the least significant effect on thermal stress. Optimal conditions for premature failure prevention of three-way catalyst were as follows : (1) aspect ratio of three-way catalyst : 0.6:1 (2) 2.84mm thick (3) silicon nitride. The safety of Taguchi-optimized three-way catalyst were 4.7 times higher than that of existent three-way catalyst.

합체박판 기술을 적용한 고장도 경량도어 최적 설계 (Optimal Design of Lightweight High Strength Door with Tailored Blank)

  • The automotive industry faces many competitive challenges including weight and cost reduction to meet need for higher fuel economy. Tailored blanks offer the opportunity to decrease door weight, reduce manufacturing costs, and improve door stiffness. Optimization technology is applied to the inner panel of a door which is made by tailored blanks. The design of tailored blanks door starts from an existing door. At first, the hinge reinforcement and inner reinforcement are removed to use tailored blanks technology. The number of parts and the welding lines are determined from intuitions and the structural analysis results of the existing door. Size optimization is carried out to find thickness while the stiffness constraints are satisfied. The door hinge system is optimized using design of experiment approach. A commercial optimization software MSC/NASTRAN is utilized for the structural analysis and the optimization processes.

  • 이 논문은 선박에서 자세 안정용 양방향 축류펌프에 대한 임펠러 블레이드의 형상최적설계를 설명한 것이다. 양방향 축류펌프용 블레이드는 대칭형 익형을 사용하므로 효율이 기존의 단방향 축류펌프보다 낮다. 이러한 양방향 축류펌프의 단점을 최소화 하고 효율을 증가시키기 위해 최적설계기법을 사용하였다. 양방향 축류펌프의 성능 개선을 위해 상용 CFD 프로그램인 ANSYS CFX v.13 을 이용하여 유동해석을 수행하였다. 직교배열표, 분산분석과 직교다항식을 이용한 대리모델기반 최적설계방법은 최적 설계변수를 결정하고 주효과를 찾는데 사용하였다. 최적설계 결과로부터, 임펠러 블레이드의 유효한 설계변수를 확인하고 이의 최적해와 설계요구조건 만족에 대한 유용성을 설명하였다.

  • KRISO(Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering) designed and manufactured a pilot mining robot called "MineRo" in 2012. MineRo is composed of four track modules. In general, much time and money are needed for deep-sea tests. Therefore, a numerical analysis to predict the dynamic behaviors has to be performed before a deep-sea test. In the numerical analysis, the information about the mining robot and soil properties are the most important factors to analyze the driving performance and dynamic response of MineRo. A terra-mechanics model of extremely cohesive soft soil is implemented in the form of the relationships between the normal pressure and sinkage, and between the shear stress and shear displacement. It is possible to acquire information about MineRo from the CAD model in the design phase. The Wong model is applied to the terra-mechanics model. This model is necessary to acquire many soil coefficients for a numerical analysis. However, in soil testing, the amount of soil property data obtained is limited. Moreover, it is difficult to analyze all of the cases for the many soil coefficients. In this paper, the dynamic behaviors of MineRo are analyzed according to the driving velocity, steering ratio, and variable extremely cohesive soft soil properties using a table of orthogonal arrays. The dynamic responses of MineRo are the turning radius, sinkage, and slip ratio. The relationships between the dynamic responses and variable soil properties are derived for MineRo.

유한요소해석과 다구찌 방법을 이용한 클린치 스터드의 설계 최적화 (Optimization Design of the Clinch Stud using the Finite Element Analysis and the Taguchi Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석과 다구찌 방법을 통해 높은 토크 저항력과 결합력을 갖는 클린치 스터드를 설계할 때 이에 영향을 미치는 설계 변수들의 적합한 조건을 도출하였다. 목적함수로 최대성형하중과 소재의 충만율을 고려하였으며 설계변수로 홈 높이, 로브 직경, 로브 높이 그리고 홈 깊이를 선정하였고 이들 제어인자와 마찰을 잡음인자로 하여 직교배열표를 조합하고 실험횟수별 유한요소해석을 통해 성형하중과 충만율을 평가하였다. 그리고 다구찌 방법의 S/N비를 이용하여 시뮬레이션결과를 해석하였고, 이들 해석결과로부터 최적의 조합조건을 제안하였다. 충만율에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 인자는 로브 높이, 홈 높이, 로브 직경 그리고 홈 깊이 순 임을 확인하였다.
