Postcolonialism, as a school of thought, has become enormously influential for understanding the recent phenomena of globalization. While rejecting the universalizing categories of the Enlightenment, postcolonialism has called into question the old idea of culture and identity as a transcendent regime of authenticity and purity. It has also celebrated the diasporic experiences that entail porous and hybrid cultural identities as a potential site of struggle and resistance against the dominant cultural and discursive order. It is argued, however, that postcolonial theory's emancipatory claims relating to the diversified global culture tend to be complicit with transnational capitalism that brings about global issues of material as well as cultural injustice. This article, through a thorough review of the ways the postcolonial theoretical framework has been developed and appropriated by main figures in postcolonial scholarship, seeks for a theoretical and critical strategy to grasp the complex conditions of global inequality.

This study examined the type of needs involved in the activities of a virtual community and the impart of gender on online participants' needs and 'perceived control behavior'. In addition, the study tried to figure out how people behave on certain factors. The survey was conducted to 230 local students who have experienced online community activities. The study results showed there were three factors related to a virtual community, 'relational need', 'entertainment need', 'instrumental need'. There was, however, no significant effect between gender and the type of needs, and between gender and 'perceived behavior control'. The results also showed that 'entertainment need' is the most important factor to predict a virtual community participation. This might not Imply the improvement of information technologies helps us return to the communities in which Individuals have a close and affectionate relationship each other.

The purpose of this paper was to analyze a social discourse on the construction of a domed stadium produced in the media. In particular, the article sought to explore and interpret the political, economical, social and cultural contexts of the building of a domed stadium by looking at how media sources with newspapers as the central source of information have produced and formed social discourses regarding the construction of a domed stadium. In a concluding perspective it was confirmed that the three aspects of social discourses have been produced and formed. First, a 'approval' discourse supporting the building of a domed stadium has been produced and formed. Second, a 'opposite' discourse criticizing it has been produced and formed. Third, in the confrontation between the approval and opposition of the building of a domed stadium, a 'governance' discourse, which the construction of a domed stadium should be solved rationally through the communication and involvement of the private and governmental sectors, has been produced.

News articles and blog posts have influence on social agenda setting and this study applied text mining on the subject of solar PV in rural area appeared in those media. Texts are gained from online news articles and blog posts with rural solar PV as a keyword by web scrapping, and these are analysed by sentiment analysis and topic modeling technique. Sentiment analysis shows that the proportion of negative texts are significantly lower in blog posts compared to news articles. Result of topic modeling shows that topics related to government policy have the largest loading in positive articles whereas various topics are relatively evenly distributed in negative articles. For blog posts, topics related to rural area installation and environmental damage are have the largest loading in positive and negative texts, respectively. This research reveals issues related to rural solar PV by combining sentiment analysis and topic modeling that were separately applied in previous studies.

The goal of this study was to investigate the implementation and related issues of the school space innovation issued by key Korean mass media using text mining. To accomplish this goal, this study collected 519 news articles associated with the school space innovation issued by 54 Korean mass media companies. Based on this data, this study performed the frequency analysis and network analysis regarding the keywords. Based on the findings, the characteristics of school space innovation are summarized as follows: First, school space innovation has progressed in response to future education. Second, users are actively participating in school space innovation. Third, experts are supporting the innovation of school space by establishing a cooperative system. Fourth, the community is actively considering the innovation of school space. Fifth, the main projects of the Ministry of Education and the Provincial Offices of Education are actively conducted in a mix of top-down and bottom-up approaches. The findings of this study will contribute to providing a clear direction for contemporary school space innovation and implications for future research agenda and implementation.

최근 전 세계적으로 기후변화로 인한 가뭄이 빈번히 발생하고 있으며 우리나라도 '14~'15년 장기화된 가뭄으로 인해 많은 어려움을 겪었다. 이러한 가뭄은 비교적 느린 속도로 진행되고 그 영향이 복잡하게 나타나기 때문에 적절한 사전대응이 이루어지지 않으면 상당한 피해를 겪게 된다. 최근 기존 수자원 정보의 수집과 분석을 탈피해서 다른 사회 시스템과의 연계 추진하는 빅데이터 개념의 적용시도가 이루어지고 있다. K-water 국가가뭄정보분석센터에서는 가뭄의 사전인지와 영향평가의 보조적인 수단으로서 뉴스를 활용하는 방법론을 도출하고 이를 시스템에 구현하여 적용하여 활용성을 분석하였다. 언론(뉴스)정보는 가뭄의 발생, 영향, 대응 등을 포괄적으로 검색할 수 있도록 가뭄진행 순서에 따라 가뭄징조 및 예측, 가뭄발생, 가뭄영향, 가뭄대응, 가뭄대비 및 해소 관련 5개 카테고리와 이와 관련된 69개 세부 키워드로 구분하고 이를 시스템에 반영하였다. 빅데이터 기능을 적용하여 인터넷 뉴스를 해당키워드를 적용해 자동으로 수집할 수 있도록 하였으며 중복되거나 관련 없는 뉴스를 제외하고 이를 다시 발생지역으로 공간 구분하여 GIG 맵에 표출될 수 있도록 구축하였다. 구축된 시스템을 활용하여 '16년을 대상으로 수집된 총 448건의 뉴스자료를 분석한 결과 시스템에 구축되어 있는 '16년 용수공급체계를 반영한 가뭄평가결과와 발생위치, 발생시기, 피해내용 등이 '16년 물수급 현황을 잘 나타내는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 센터에서는 뉴스이외에 소셜미디어와 SNS등에서 다양한 가뭄관련정보를 빅데이터 수집방식에 의해 확보하고 이를 가뭄인자와 영향평가에 대한 참고자료로서 활용하기 위한 방안과 시스템 적용을 통한 검증을 지속적으로 진행할 예정이다.

The Fukushima nuclear power plant water spill caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011 raised fears about radiation exposure through consumption of radioactively contaminated seafood. The Korean government banned importing agricultural and fishery products from eight prefectures near Fukushima, but the related news were continuously reported partly due to the WTO dispute with Japan, which seems to have aggravated consumers' anxiety about seafood. In this study, data on daily purchases of products for three years (2018-2020) were collected and the effect of Japanese radiation-related news on domestic consumers' purchases of seafood was estimated using a polynomial lag distributed model. As a result of the analysis, it was found that radiation-related news had a statistically significant negative effect on the purchase of seafood on the 5th and 6th days after exposure to consumers through the media. It captures the carryover effect in which consumers' perceptions are reflected in the purchase of seafood after exposure to related news.

This study aims to explore the issue of drones and crime in newspaper articles. BIG KINDS, an online news archive of the Korea Press Foundation, collected 1,213 newspaper articles that met the terms of "drone" and "crime" in 11 central and 28 regional comprehensive newspapers between January 1, 1990 and May 1, 2021. Among them, we perform keyword frequency, centrality analysis, network structure construction, CONCOR analysis, and density matrix analysis on 117 key keywords. According to the analysis, the main issues were classified into eight, and the report analysis on drones and crimes in newspaper articles showed that the government's policy-making and social problems on protecting people's privacy, preventing illegal filming, securing navigation safety, social security and resolution. This study attempts to expand the field of humanities and social studies related to drones and crime, and specifically suggests the current status and counterplan against drone-related crimes as policy implications and media implications.

Economic statistics such as GDP, consumer prices, balance of payments, and unemployment rates are regularly measured over time. One of the best way to understand economic statistics is to visualize economic statistics as a picture. This makes it easier to grasp patterns of economic statistics and to communicate with users. The web technologies and the visualization tools make it possible to create dynamic and interactive visualization of economic statistics. Statistics Korea and the Bank of Korea provide various data visualization relating to official statistics such as infographics and dynamic charts. This paper presents an overview of visualization of Statistics Korea and the Bank of Korea. It also discusses a future direction to explore the visualization of Korean economic statistics.

국내 조선소와 학교, 연구소에서 1990년대 중반 이전의 빙해선박에 대한 연구는 거의 이루어지지 않았다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 하지만 2000년대 초반부터 러시아가 St. Petersburg항을 통해 본격적으로 원유를 수출하기 시작하면서 내빙선 시장이 호황을 맞이하게 되었고 빙해선박 특히 내빙선박에 대한 관심이 집중되었다. 당시에 한국의 조선소들은 FMA rule 상의 엔진 출력이 과도한 것을 인지하고, 적정한 엔진 사양을 파악하기 위한 공격적인 연구개발로 ICE Class 1A, 1B, 1C의 선박을 상당히 많이 수주하여 선주에게 인도하였다. 또한 Ice belt의 구조적인 보강을 하기위한 설계와 연구가 활발히 진행되었다. 내빙선에 이어 쇄빙선의 연구에 관심을 집중시킨 선박은 최근 실해역에서 활동 중인 연구 조사선 "아라온"호 이다. 아라온호는 설계와 건조가 국내 조선소에서 이루어졌으며, 학계와 조선소 및 연구소에 쇄빙선에 대한 관심을 불러 일으켰다. 이와 비슷한 시기에 삼성 중공업에서 세계 최대 쇄빙선인 70K shuttle tanker를 수주 및 인도하면서 대형 쇄빙선 시장이 개척되어 국내외 조선소의 큰 관심을 불러일으키고 있다. 쇄빙 기술이 응용된 선박으로 Drill ship과 LNG FPSO등이 수주되어 현재 설계를 진행 중이다. 가장 최근에 현대중공업에서 수주한 원통형 FPSO의 경우 북해 지역에 투입을 목적으로 언론에 발표된 것과는 달리 발주처와 유럽의 관련 연구기관에서는 러시아 유전지역 투입을 염두에 두고 쇄빙관련 연구를 진행한 것으로 파악되고 있다. 본 기고에서는 이러한 빙해선박의 개발 및 건조 사례 현황을 기술하고, 향후 수주가능성이 있는 쇄빙선 분야와 조선소의 대응 전략 등에 대해서 정리해 보고자 한다.
