The Geography of Community Festivals as a Regional Development Strategy: The Case of South Korea (지역발전전략으로 지역축제와 이벤트의 지리학: 한국을 사례로)

  • This study focuses on the economic effect on regional development and spatial distribution of community festivals and events as a regional development strategy in South Korea. Community festivals are totally estimated to 893 cases in 2009, and most of festivals were newly established since 1995. Spatial Distribution of festivals show regional differences. Many of festivals was hold in Jeju, Gyeongnam, Ulsan, and Chungnam provinces, however, Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam, Gwangju, and Gyeonggi provinces were distributed less. The total number of cultural tourism festivals selected as best festival by central government were increased from 10 in 1997 to 57 in 2009, and the everage local economic effects of one cultural tourism festival were also increased from14.2 billion won in 1997 to 33.3 billion won in 2008. In order to estimate the relationship between community frstivals and local economic effect, Geumsan Insam Festival, Muju Firefly Festival, and Hampyeong Butterfly Festival are selected as case study. These three festivals were successful in the tourist attraction, and it were also affected positively to local economic effect.

Effect of Festival Impact Perception of Local Residents on Participation and Satisfaction Level - Focus on Boryeong, Korea - (축제개최 지역주민의 축제효과요인 인식이 축제참여도 및 만족도에 미치는 영향 - 한국 보령시를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was proceeded with interest on residents' perception of local festival(Boryeong City, Korea) and tried to examine the relation with their participation level and satisfaction. This study used 'festival visiting experience' as moderating variable with the expectation of difference in residents' perception according to visit. This study result indicated that residents can recognize local festival negatively if they feel they have no benefit from the festival even though the festival has many visitors with growing reputation. Also, festival visiting experience has no moderating effect on residents' participation intention in this study. The facts also find that the residents-oriented festival planning and promotion is more important in the partnership with local government and private sector-local residents. Further, it is very important to notice internal customer as well as external customer to ensure residents' satisfaction and participation.

  • 지방자치제 실시 후 지역 축제는 꾸준히 증가하였다. 2014년을 기준으로 봤을 때 1,214개의 축제가 개최되었고, 1억 3,125만 명이 지역 축제를 방문하였다. 이처럼 축제에 대한 접근성은 높아졌으며, 주변에서 흔히 관람하고 직접 체험할 수 있게 되었다. 반면 지역 축제 정보에 대한 접근성은 높지 않았다. 축제에 대한 정보를 확인하려면 지역의 오프라인 홍보, 지역 축제 포스터 또는 각 지자체 홈페이지 등을 통해 정보를 검색해야 했다. 축제에 대한 정보를 효과적으로 전달하기 위해서는 축제형 아카이브(플랫폼)를 개발해야 한다. 축제형 아카이브는 지역 축제를 지역별, 분야별, 주제별 기준을 설정하여 축제에 대한 정보뿐만 아니라 실제 진행되었던 축제의 동영상을 보여줄 수 있는 플랫폼의 역할을 수행할 것이다. 이를 통해 지역 축제에 대한 실질적인 정보를 제공하여 기존의 방문객보다 더 많은 방문객의 방문을 유도할 수 있을 것이다.

An Empirical Study on the Effect of Local Festivals on Economic Growth (지역 축제의 경제성장 효과에 관한 실증분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of local festivals on regional economic growth through empirical analysis of festival - economic growth relation. Theoretically, the theory of creative city is at the center of the discussion as to how festivals can influence economic growth. We used the regional convergence equation and used pooled OLS, fixed effect model, and GMM estimation method to analyze the effect of festivals on regional economic growth. According to this empirical analysis, the effect of festival variables such as the number of festivals and the festival period on economic growth has not been affected. This suggests that the effects of festivals on productivity and efficiency have not existed. This implies that the creative city theory that local festivals influence regional economic growth does not work well.

  • 지역축제는 지역에서 정례적으로 개최되는 지역문화가 종합화되고 축약 적으로 상징화된 행사로서 지역발전에 미치는 효과는 크게 경제적 효과, 사회. 문화적 효과, 그리고 물리. 환경적 효과로 볼 수 있다. 지역축제는 지방자치가 실시된 1995년부터 지역 경쟁력을 강화하기 위하여 급속하게 증가 하였으며, 2008년 현재 전국적으로 개최되는 축제는 1년에 1100여개가 넘는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 문화관광부에서는 경쟁력 있는 지역축제를 육성하기위하여 지원규모에 따라 최우수, 우수, 지역육성 그리고 예비 축제 등으로 구분하여 지원하고 이들 중 상품성이 큰축제를 문화관광 축제로 지원한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문화관광 축제들을 선정하여 관광객들이 축제 관람 시 필요로 하는 다양한 정보들을 웹상에서 보다 쉽게 비교 검색이 가능하도록 통합검색시스템 설계에 관한 요구분석 내용을 기술한다.

The Effect of Perceived Attractiveness of Local Festival on the Esteem of Residents -Focusing on Dongnae Historical Festival- (지역축제 매력성에 대한 지역주민 인식이 지역자긍심에 미치는 영향 -동래읍성역사축제를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the attractiveness of local festival on local esteem of residents through the residents' satisfaction toward the festival. The survey was undertaken for four days during October 11 to 14 of 2013 in Dongnae, Busan. Two hundred twenty-three respondents were selected and invited to participate in this study. Results found a significant relationship between local festival attractiveness and festival satisfaction. The study also indicated that local community residents' satisfaction toward the festival had a significant, positive relationship with the residents' local esteem. Among the attractiveness factors, it was revealed that novelty-seeking and entertainment were more powerful stimulators. Also, analysis indicated that program quality, uniqueness, and convenience were also important for attracting local residents toward the festival. Theoretical and practical implication were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is finding the way of vitalizing local festival of Chung-buk through successful local festivals and local festivals of Chung-buk. Therefore this study analyzed case of local festivals Young dong with reference definitude, participation, foundation, organizing, capability of calling the people. And It is pointing out the problems of the local festivals and suggesting the ways of vitalizing local festival in Chung-buk.

  • This paper is investigated to awareness and assessment by festival participants' to significance of lacal festival in "Andong International Mask Dance 2011". As results, first, demographic characteristics of festival participants' in case study are that dominated participants' were tewnties to fourties consisting consanguine and graduates. There is almost same rate in demographic characteristics. Second, the results of questionnaire for characteristics of local festival are that positive responds was dominated at degree of using and respect of local culture resources and main theme reflected to festival. Third, questionnaire items of the significants of local festival are participation desire and real participation rates of citizen to local festival, contribution rate of citizenry reconciliation, effects of regional marketing and increasing regional image, local economy development and rate of improving people's quality of cultural life. In these item, effects of reginal marketing is most positive response by Andong citizen and outsiders. And positive response of economical effects is higher outsiders then citizen. However, the contribution rate of citizenry reconciliation is lower then other items to positive response. Therefore, methods of regoinal embeddedness of case festival are evaluating life quality of local citizen by local festival and leading active participation of local people to local festival.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the image of the feel of the local festival visitors participated in local festivals, the local festival image Impact on vistor's satisfaction, revisit and intention of recommendation. In addition, empirically how the visitor's satisfaction impact on their revisit and intention of recommendation. Analysis showed that local festival image factor is derived by three factors, such as cognitive image factor, emotional image factor, facility image factor. All three factors ware seen as the important factors affecting the visitor's facilities satisfaction, but only emotional image of the three images was a factor affecting the visitor's operating satisfaction. Above all should be considered cognitive image Among the three images(cognitive images, emotional images, facilities Images) To enhance the visitor's revisit and intention of recommendation. In other words, it is important that the position of local festival be considered. Should try to raise the quality of cognitive images to improve the visitor's satisfaction, revisit and intention of recommendation at the same time.
