An R&D project, 'Carbon Neutral Road Technologies Development', sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport was performed and sustainable development is being discussed in relation to global climate change. A draft of the green highway certification system, the green highway design and construction technologies for making low carbon eco-friendly roads, and Green Highway Technology Investment Evaluation System (GTIES) for estimating and managing carbon emissions from roads have been developed from the results of the R&D project. A scheme for expanding the application of these technologies and building sustainable road systems by considering the concept of sustainability was proposed in this research.

The radical changes in the business environment have motivated firms to exert serious efforts in managing sustainable development. This study identified the effects of sustainable development on the perceived performance of firms from the viewpoint of the balanced scorecard. Independent variables include economic efforts (of efficiency and ethic of accounting and fairness), environmental efforts (management and energy control), and social efforts (consumer protection and contribution for local community). The result from the analysis of data collected in this research suggests that sustainable development efforts are the critical sources of the incorporated performance of firms. The consumer protection efforts of the local community determine the competitiveness of a firm in managing social responsibility and creating value and social activities. Efforts to reconsider efficiency determine the competitiveness of a firm, becoming the critical factors that determine sustainable performance. Energy control facilitates value creation for the environment through cooperation and harmonization with nature, resulting in sustainable business performances through the vitalization of practical establishments and operations. Sustainable management needs to meet international standards, cooperation, and harmony. These standards are based on the economic, environmental, and social efforts that enable firms to adopt sustainable management efforts that are suitable for their own systems.

In this study, the performance of the support modular system, as substructure of the proposed sustainable-perpetual modular road system to reduce road construction time and maintenance costs was evaluated. A modular road system consisting of 4 support modular cross-beams with a lower curved surface was constructed on the test-bed. Six load cells and eight LVDTs were installed in the center part of two cross-beam support modular systems. Two loads, 50kN and 100kN, were applied to 15 points on the pavement slab to measure the load and displacement occurring in the modular road system. The measured displacements were less than 1 mm, so it is considered that there was no problem in the stability of the actual road. When comparing the two applied loads and the measured loads in the field test, it was considered that the load transmitted to the ground under the support modular system is very small. It is considered that the modular road system with the support modular system is applicable to the actual road site.

The purpose of this study is to examine effects of sustainability of convention events on brand equity and customer loyalty. This paper also explores the mediating role of brand equity amid sustainability of convention events and customer loyalty. The four determinants ofsustainability of convention events examined in this study are economic sustainability, environmental sustainability, social sustainability and event sustainability. Brand equity refers to performance, social image, value, trust worthiness, and attachment. The findings are as follows: (1)most sustainability of convention events have a positive effect on each brand equity's elements; (2)all sustainability of convention events have a positive effect on loyalty; (3)brand equity of convention is significantly related to customer loyalty. (4)brand equity plays a mediating role between sustainability of convention and customer loyalty. The findings will not only be useful in improving the structure of sustainability of convention events, but also in enhancing competitiveness in Korea's convention industry.
