  • In this study, I investigated cases of operating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) sustainable design courses based on interdisciplinary education for diverse design major students in the fashion design department. Through literature review, we examined the necessity of this course operation and analyzed the course through class design, execution, and operational results. Sustainable design courses were organized for 2nd to 4th-year students, promoting integrated learning for fashion design and various design majors to enhance interdisciplinary skills based on the in-depth study of SDGs issues. The educational content in the classes focused on the sustainable development goals achieved through upcycling design of waste PET bottle fibers developed by local industries, aiming to pursue sustainable values of designers through problem discovery and resolution. Students developed various upcycled products, evaluated metrics, and assessed satisfaction levels. Through this process, students gained an understanding of the practical value of SDGs, recognized the importance of sustainable development through design approaches for solving local issues, and acknowledged the significance of interdisciplinary education with various design majors.

  • From a sustainability perspective, the characteristics of upcycling fashion design by Marine Serre were analysed to understand upcycling fashion design, which can be an important way to follow sustainability values in the fashion industry, and to provide solutions for moving towards sustainable fashion. In order to derive the characteristics of upcycling fashion design from a sustainability perspective, the values of sustainable designs and the characteristics of the upcycling design were derived though the analysis of Marine Serre's seasonal collections from the 2018 F/W season to the recent 2022 F/W season. The research results are summarized as follows. First, the value of sustainable fashion design could be classified into environmental, economic, social, and cultural values. Second, Marine Serre's upcycling fashion design was driven by the characteristics of sustainable upcycling fashion design, such as environmentality, originality, variability, economy, handicraft, time, and availability. Third, Marine Serre's upcycling fashion design contained all environmental, economic, social, and cultural sustainability values. From a sustainability perspective, Marine Serre's upcycling fashion design can be said to be an upcycling fashion design with convergent values that encompasses all of the sustainability core values of environmental, economic, social, and cultural aspects.

  • The fashion industry is considered hazardous and a threatened to the environment. Due the negative perception, the industry should focus on sustainability as a social role. Therefore, several redesign fashion collaborations mainly focusing on renewing abandoned resources are already in place. The research method was based on previous studies, and 3 characteristics were derived: Redesign collaboration between fashion companies, Redesign collaboration between fashion & heterogeneous industries, and Redesign collaboration between the fashion industry & non-profit organizations. Those 3 characteristics were reviewed using 4 criteria. First, to establish and maximize the sustainable brand image and to be the best examples in environmental management, the organization endeavors to collaborate with various industries, institutions, and designers. Second is the expansion of the customer network through the spread of value consumption. Third is the creation of new values through a resource circulation structure. This means that the resource circulation structure system helps the partners to minimize on wastage. Fourth is the spread of de-boundary lines and the possibility of brand growth. Through collaboration with other industries, the boundaries of materials used in the fashion industry started to blur, thus expanding the continuous brand growth potential. The study derived the characteristics of redesign collaboration by systematically analyzing the cases. Further, the study looks forward to analyzing the characteristics of the products processed by redesign fashion collaborations in future research.

  • The increasingly severe environmental problems such as resource depletion and ecological damage, and consumers' concern for sustainable fashion, make the fashion industry chain develop towards green energy saving. The purpose of this study is to explore the attitude and consumption psychology of specific groups towards sustainable fashion consumption, as well as their specific views and attitudes towards recycled textiles or fabrics for re-manufacturing clothing. This paper attempts to understand how the characteristics of recycled clothing affect consumer. Based on the review of relevant literature, a series of determinants affecting consumer behavior is determined, and the characteristics of recycled products, such as expression value and social value, are determined. An online questionnaire was designed based on this conceptual framework, and 226 valid, complete answers were received. • Recently, research on environmental sustainable fashion design has been conducted, but various studies on preference and purchase intention for environmental sustainable fashion products have not yet been conducted. Therefore, this paper studied the effect of the characteristics of environmental sustainable fashion products on purchase intention with preference as a mediating effect. This study focused on Generation MZ attending universities in Hubei Province, China, and a total of 350 online surveys were conducted from August 15, 2021 to August 20, 2021. Among them, 335 copies were used for the final analysis, excluding invalid questionnaires. SPSS26 and AMOS26 were used for analysis. First, the results of the analysis showed that environmental protection characteristics among the characteristics of environmental sustainable fashion products had a positive effect on preference. At the same time, environmental sustainability had a positive effect on purchase intention. Second, environmental protection and sustainability have a significant positive effect on preference. At the same time, environmental sustainability has a significant positive effect on purchase intention. Third, preference plays a significant mediating role in the relationship between the purchase intention of environmental protection.

  • Fashion is one of the main environmental pollution industries. To reduce pollution, much of the deadstock clothes are given a new value by being redesigning based on the designer's competency. This study aims to promote the revitalization of redesigning by analyzing and presenting hybrid design characteristics of the Sacai design collection, as a redesigning brand, and formative element characteristics of redesigning. A theoretical study using previous research on redesigning and related books and an empirical study analyzing the Sacai Collection were conducted. Based on the study results, there are four types of redesigning processes; recombination of heterogeneous clothing structure, reorganization by reversed function and position, reorganized composition by material processing, and mixing of heterogeneous materials. In the recombination of heterogeneous clothing structures, heterogeneous materials and structures coexist by combining the clothing components with other clothing elements. The second is the reconstruction by subversion. The third is reconstruction by material processing. The fourth is a mixture of disparate materials. This study has innovative redesign features from Sacai designs, and there are plans for a follow-up study that will analyze the work of another designer who is recognized for the excellence in redesigning.

  • This research is to analyze ethics in fashion design for more valuable and sustainable human life against the increasing alienation of the human being, the global ecological crisis resulted from contemporary consumption society. I expect that it can be helpful to plan ethical fashion design practice more effectively. For this, the documentary study and practical case study have been executed. The results are as follows. The ethics in design can be defined as the responsibility to reform the social, environmental problem of consumptive design, to sustain together without human alienation, environment disruption and to do social good for total human being ultimately. The ethical design practice means to suggest solutions to problems of human rights and environment and to act willingly. Based on this, ethical fashion design appeared as responsible design solution which has two directions. One is the fashion design for coexistence and sharing, including the design for all which considers even underprivileged minority, the design to promote public issues as well as to donate some profits. The other is the eco fashion design for sustainable environment, including eco-friendly design which is reductive and slow in whole design process, the design to inform the seriousness of environmental crisis as well as to donate some profits. The last one of the most important ethical responsibility as fashion designer is to abide by vocational ethics, that is, the prohibition of design piracy.
